Opinion on my team?

Post#1 » by Busch Legion » Sun Dec 4, 2011 2:37 pm

12 man head to head yahoo league.

PG - Kyle Lowry
SG - Nic Batum
G - Jrue Holiday
SF - Danilo Gallinari
PF - Josh Smith
F - Demarcus Cousins
C - Dwight Howard
C - Brook Lopez
Util - Tony Parker
Util - Aron Afllalo
BN - Ricky Rubio
BN - Jeff Teague
BN - Gerald Henderson

Probably have to punt FT% and TO's but hopefully I can be balanced in everything else... 3's and Assists might be a bit weak.. depending if Teague and Rubio don't start. I picked up Teague of Waivers, DeAndre Jordan is there, should I pick him up? Or do you think i'll be ok in boards and blocks without him?

What cats?

PGs: Lowry, Holiday, Parker, Rubio, Teague

Rubio sucks and will be a complete flop. Drop-worthy. I like Lowy and Holiday quite a bit and Parker's always solid, but you definitely want a better No. 1 PG. I hate teams without an elite PG. Teague's a LDO sleeper.

SG: Batum, Afflalo:

Afflalo's rad, Batum is perennially overrated. Batum's basically a RL bench player. How does he get PT over Crash/Aldridge/Matthews? Shouldn't be on the roster of any good teams. I'd take James Johnson over him for example.

SF: Gallo, Henderson:

Henderson was probably great value. Gallo's a pimp.

PF: Smoove/Cousins:

Cousins was probably overvalued. He's just too volatile for me to mess with. And if your league counts TOs... He's not gonna break out this year, I guarantee that. Fouls way too often. Terrible pick. Smoove is Smoove.

C: D-Ho, Lopez:

Lopez was probably overvalued. Do not want. D-Ho is alright but I hate picking him because handicapping your team is (Please Use More Appropriate Word), unless the categories make it extremely +EV (like OReb/DReb, H2H, and no TOs).

I imagine your draft went something like:

1. Howard
2. Smith
3. Lopez
4. Cousins
5. Holiday
6. Gallo
7. Parker
8. Lowry
9. Afflalo
10. Teague
11. Henderson
12. Batum
13. Rubio

Your first four picks sucked, more or less. (J-Smoove in a vacuum is fine, if not ideal, but in context was terrible). 5-9 were pretty incredible. 10-13th were mediocre.

Dunno how big your league is but if it's a 12-teamer this was a terrible job drafting. 14-teamer and it's above-average.

Thanks for the opinion, its the standard 9 cat league.

1. (7) Dwight Howard
2. (18) Josh Smith
3. (31) Brook Lopez
4. (42) Kyle Lowry
5. (55) Jrue Holiday
6. (66) Danilo Gallinari
7. (79) Tony Parker
8. (90) DeMarcus Cousins
9. (103) Nicolas Batum
10. (114) Arron Afflalo
11. (127) Gerald Henderson
12. (138) Ricky Rubio
13. (151) Anthony Randolph

My strategy since I decided on D12, was FG% Pts, Rebs, Blks and Stls. Maybe be able to win in 3's and Asts some days.

Yea Rubio should be dropped in 12 team 9cat format.

He doesn't give you 3s and will hurt you in FG% and Turnover. Might be good source of steal but thats about it.

With Adelman as coach, he won't have the ball in his hand as much as you'll like. There is also a strong chance Luke Ridnour start ahead of him.

Parker and Henderson are trash, get rid of them.

I picked Lopez because of D-Will... he should help him out with fg% and pts.

Not gonna lie, Rubio was a bit of a homer pick... Wolves fan... but I also realized how much my assists were hurting. I have to punt TO's and probably FT/3pm anyway. Should help in steals as well.

He could be beastly in assists/steals while being terrible in everything else. That has value considering how rare assists/steals are. But I expect a 40% FG or worse (albeit on few shot attempts), a lot of turnovers, almost zero 3's, and less than three rebounds per game. Yikes.

His youth gives him the non-zero chance he posts superstar-esque numbers, but considering how terrible his overseas numbers translate, I feel safe in going on record in him being a complete NBA bust.

**** it though. You obviously know your **** so you'll adapt.

Haha, thanks. Yeah it's a super risky pick for sure.. his FG% will be under 40, no 3's lots of TO's... but thats what I am punting. We'll see but I'll probably drop him for Rudy Fernandez or Delfino for 3 help.

you've actually won me over (somewhat) -- i dropped marion for rubio

there's a chance he gets 30+ mpg, the t'wolves run, there is talent... kind of a dumb reason for me to have an illogical blind spot towards rubio when PG cats are so hard to find. plus we'll know almost immediately how good or bad he is

You dropped Marion for Rubio? :o

Rubio is a rookie ball dominant PG playing under Adelman whose best attribute is passing.
Adelman is a veteran oriented coach who relegates a heavy amount of ball distribution duty to the bigs.

When Mike Bibby was in Vancouver, he was averaging 8+ assist per game. When he went to the Kings, his assist average hovered around 5-6. No PG under Adelman has averaged more than 7apg under Adelman in the last 10 years.

Rubio wont give you 3, will be turnover prone in rookie season, wont block shot, most likely single digit scoring in sub 40% shooting. Personally i dont think he will get more than 25mpg.

He will give you middling assist number and Steal. I like Rubio the player but he is a fantasy bust waiting to happen.

odom just got traded to dallas. i think that makes odom a total stud -- stays healthy, can play big minutes, has turned into a consistent 3pt threat. i love his game and think he takes all the air out of marion's value

this is also a competitive league where i took over for someone post-draft and think my team is only 3rd-5th best so i need upside. marion had low upside even before the trade imo

lotta good news coming out of min camp too:

Ricky Rubio is reportedly very happy with Rick Adelman's system, saying "I love it. You have freedom to see which is the best option for us, not like robots."

min is extremely invested in him. i think he'll get all kinds of opportunity to prove himself and like i said, if he's outclassed in the NBA we'll know it shortly. he's a boom or bust guy. this early in the season you need to be v aggressive on the waiver wire. i have a ton of sleepers and a lot of them will flame out but the ones that dont have tremendous upside. as said earlier i think marion has zero upside

True Marion has very minimum fantasy value.

I personally dont see very much upside with Rubio in Adelman's system as a rookie. I dont see it. But he may be the best option u have in the waiver.

Rubio is a 2 cat guy assist and steal but losing on turnover, FG%, 3s, ppg.

I know assist and steal are rare but still.

Yeah so far in his 3 days of camp, his teammates have raved his passing. His jumper has been falling too.... how that translates who knows.

He will start from the get go... like Apathy said, we'll find out right away if he'll be good enough (for fantasy anyway) this year.

I might see if I can trade DeMarcus and Rubio right now for an elite PG, and pick up Amir Johnson from waivers... I think he starts at C up there in Toronto.

Definitely get Amir if you can find a spot for him. The guy was putting up top 30 numbers last year when healthy. He should get good run even if Ed Davis' minutes get a boost.

i prefer anderson varejao myself, who is really undervalued entering this season for whatever reason[s]

He'll be Rubio's mentor I guess is the reason behind it. Ridnour has to be gone... I don't see why (well maybe because of the ridic schedule) he'd stay. Rumors of a Kev Martin trade are strong.... Dunno why Ridnour would be included in it but his name has been brought up with Wes Johnson.

EDIT - just did an espn draft this morning... they have have Rubio's 2012 projection scoring 12 ppg on 42% with 6 assists and a steal per game... optimism over there...
