Just trying to get caught up on everything, did Orlando sign Reggie Williams to an offer sheet?
Reporter - How do you feel about your first triple double?

Nope. He probably was our back up plan in case we don't re-sign J-Rich. But we did - and for very decent value - so I guess Reg to Magic is dead deal.

I agree, Otis should be gone, but lets keep SVG, because finding another good head coach just before this short season would be very difficult. So lets bet on him and in the next summer lets judge his performance and options to replace him, IMO.

I still think Dwight is history and this is all just spin to keep himself from looking like the bad guy.
He can leave and point at management and yell "they forced me out, this isn't my fault" when in all reality it is his decision in the end.
I think Tony pegged it here:

We need to trade him for the best deal possible and rebuild..again.

I'd like to believe that Dwight isn't just saying the "right words". But I'll only believe this if management start to make moves to land SJax or Monta, or other players rumored to be on Dwight's list.

dwight isn't a bad enough guy to completely lie to alex martins and have them change things, have us see the changes and then STILL say eff off orlando.
I believe him this time. he was getting frustrated with otis and his crap so he called magic's bluff. that ends up being good for all of us.

It will end only after Dwight signs a new contract with us. Not earlier.

I would like to believe it as well, but I don't.
It is the same song and dance other athletes have used when they are ditching a city. Dwight loves to be loved and I think this is a way to try and save face here while bailing.
That being said, if we keep getting garbage offers they need to just hold onto him. You can't take crap offers just because you don't want to "have another shaq situation" where you don't get compensation. Unless you get a real offer you keep him and let him end up taking 30 million less in free agency to leave. Call it a divorce settlement if you will.

If Orlando wins and builds a contender, Howard will stay. If Orlando looks like they did last year, he'll leave. Nothing has changed. I don't believe Howard wants to leave but "winning" is the most important thing to him.

"winning" and "acting" and "my brand" and etc etc etc are most important to him
It is never JUST about winning. It is about that and all the stuff outside of basketball that he wants to do.
Funny how obvious this stuff is when it is happening to a team that isn't "your" team. Once it is your team then you grasp onto any glimmer of hope that is thrown out there. It sucks, but it is true. This has been my team since it was created and I am also hoping he isn't just blowing smoke, but looking at it objectively it seems obvious that he is.
Believe me that I have never hoped I was more wrong about something when it comes to sports than this, but I don't think I am.

This article sounds like it's written by a Laker homer or someone from ESPN.... I don't think dwight is set on leaving.
I honestly believe that if we get the pieces he wants, he'll stay. I don't know if otis will be able to pull this off... but if he does i believe he'll stay.

Re: Official Speculation & Free Agency Thread (Part VI)
Andrew Wornick reported from Media day that everyone was raving about how Hedo looked so far. Apparently Hedo is back to his old form which spells good news for the Magic if that is true. I'm encouraged by the shape that big baby Davis came to Orlando in. If everyone is serious this year about winning and we get one really good trade in without ruining our depth we could do really well this year. Back up center would be nice but big baby could handle that if needed. I really think we are going after s. Jackson especially with the headband rule being revoked. We will see how this all plays out but I think this team can make 2 or 3 team in the east this year if we get one good trade in. The only players I would want are iggy or Paul, but I think we would have to give up way to much to get him. I think we could get iggy for less. Think though about the size advantage we would have with sjax on this team. Jameer/sjax/Hedo/bbd/Howard. All of those are playoff tested. Not to mention the back ups we would have. Especially if Hughes and the rookies works out.

Dwight Howard already has "acting" and "brand". I saw it in an article, but this isn't the 1800's. You don't have to be in a big city to be global icon. Winning makes you a global icon. Winning makes you remembered.

Pritchard would be a great choice, or whoever is the number 2 guy in OKC or San Antonio

And speaking of San Antonio, its wishful thinking but I would love it if there were a way to get Tony Parker on this team. If the Spurs move him for expirings and picks they could get themselves under the cap enough to make a run at D Will or CP3 in the summer.

Seriously.
LeBron James was the most popular athlete in the world.......in Cleveland.
The only other athlete who was probably more popular than him was Tiger.......who lived in Orlando.

Re: Official Speculation & Free Agency Thread (Part VI)
If Jameer had the freedom of Parker, I think he's just as good, or better (because he's a better shooter). When he was ballin and made his all-star selection, he was (i think) our #2 option. If he gets that freedom to reign again, watch out.PeePee la Fritz wrote:PeePee la Fritz wrote:Nyce_1 wrote:what about Prichard (old Portland GM) for Magic GM?

It's a little hard to give this gentleman much credibility when he couldn't be bothered with attending media day. I get the whole 'I'm being a good father' story, but suspect it's just an excuse. Fathers have been known to actually leave their kids with someone else in order to attend work functions.
I mean really, I wanted to be there too, but other commitments - clients - got in the way for me. That and the fact that I'm not a credentialed reporter / writer.

Re: Official Speculation & Free Agency Thread (Part VI)
The people who say that players don't need to go to big markets to build their brand, make movies, etc are always the people in the small markets who are trying to justify why the player should stay.
Everyone else knows that there are opportunities in bigger markets that are more readily available than in smaller ones. That is just a fact.
I want him to stay. I do not want to lose him to LA. I hope he signs a max deal with us and finishes his career here. I have seen this movie too many times to not know how it ends. Our only hope is that M Night Shyamalan wrote it and has a huge twist at the end where Dwight actually stays.
