Speaking of great, the last scene in the last episode of Walking Dead... if you haven't seen it and have followed the series, it's must see tv. Honestly, I can't think of a more memorable scene in tv history. It was that good and that powerful. I was shaking when... nope, no spoilers. Just say that the barnstorming incident was amazing.

Yup. Absolutely riveting. I thought much of the 2nd season was a bit slow and lacked the sense of terror of Season 1, but the payoff was incredible.

The payoff was great and the show is still must-watch-tv for my roommates and I, but I still don't think the last scene (as shocking as it was) was worth the snail's pace the show has taken on this season.

I don't agree with snail's pace at all, but whatever.
That last scene was harrowing -- an absolute masterpiece of setup and payoff. Perfect storytelling. They did a great job of shifting audience sympathies.

Jacqui reports she is scrimmaging well raising poppa's hopes
she sees the court. A couple of players on the team are nicked up.
Game Tuesday night, home opener for them.

Shame indeed. Just remember though when hockey or baseball players fight its no big thing, but when basketball players fight its the decline of civilization. Plus, this was a pillow fight compared to what that Chinese team did to Georgetown.

speaking of other sports... that Tim Tebow sure is something, huh?
yeah, i will never understand the "culture" of fighting in hockey and baseball.
baseball is ridiculous chest-thumping. nobody ever takes a swing and always degenerates into a wrestling match. could you imagine if someone actually decided to go buck crazy and start swinging? BATS?
hockey throws punches for sure, which makes the systematic okay-ing of it that much more bizarre. it's OK to fight?!

Welcome back dude! We've been wondering as to your whereabouts. Glad you're alive and presumably well.
Thanks, thank you, sir.
Yeah, all's well - there was a familial expansion episode as there is now a small, tool-using critter with a surprisingly robust head of hair tucked up here in the hearth. A wee dollop and generally dressed in pink, so, you know, the girl kind.
The mid and late terms of the alien incubation were kind of dicey, so I was indisposed as far as communications, but once out, wee-one has proved well provided with symmetrical appendages and cognitive functionality - even if now suffering from a temporary bout of constipation - so, I am disposed towards some message board tomfoolery with you'ze here guys.
Thanks for fussing over me! Likewise, I hope all is well within the bowels of you and your kith.

Thanks, Closg.
It is the first one, yes, and the doctor had been saying that there were not going to be any at all.
It was sort of like the movie 'Gremlins' with the fossil of an old Chinese guy saying something about "don't get them wet or feed them after midnight or you'll be knee deep in anthropomorphic guinea pigs", except in reverse. That is, "there will be no guinea pigs regardless of what happens after midnight regarding moisture"; our guys was an older Asian doctor too, so a very strong parallel, methinks.
The takeaway to this story for anyone who's gotten this far? Just because a sage-looking Asian guy says something, it doesn't make it true.

It'll be very interesting to see how they follow up on that aspect - especially. Gawd, I'm suffering from withdrawal symptoms - need a new Walking Dead episode. Otoh, now that the bar is set so high - Is the rest of the series going to feel like it falls a bit flat?
I'm liking the other AMC series - Hell on Wheels. It started out a bit convaluted, but they've done a good job of rounding out the significant characters and making it look realistic with the issues and situations of the times. It's not Walking Dead, but it's well done and entertaining.

Re: Official Not So Random Thoughts Thread Version 2.2
I missed the start of Hell on Wheels so I've intentionally stayed away. I figure they'll re-run all of them when they're getting ready to launch season 2 and I'll give it a try then.
As for Walking Dead -- I think they'll come up with some good stuff for the next season. There are several years worth of graphic novels to use as source material, so there's still a lot of ground for them to cover.
Book recommendation: Read the Hunger Games trilogy. My daughter kept bugging me to read them, and I kept resisting because the last thing she wanted me to read was Harry Potter and I was unimpressed. (She keeps insisting I have to read all 7 Potter books because they get better, but I'm dubious after book one.)
Anyway, Hunger Games is terrific in a "can't put the damn thing down, and can't stop thinking about it when I have to put it down" kinda way. There were broad plot points I expected the stories to hit based on the book-jacket summaries, and they sometimes do hit those points. But never in a way I expect. Usually the 2nd book in a trilogy is the weakest -- in this series, it might be the best (so far -- I'm about halfway through the 3rd book).
They're making a movie, which has been getting positive buzz from my friends in the movie-making business. It's coming out in March next year.

Speaking of movies, Social Network and Money Ball remind me of something I communicated with you a while back. I don't have the energy/creativity/know how to make it come to fruition, but I do have a straw man of what I think would be a great story.
You can take it and run with it if you don't leave me totally out of the loop when it becomes a hit. You do have the energy/creativity/know how to get it done, Nivek.
If they can make a movie about Petey Greene, and I remember speaking to him at Fisherman's Wharf, they can make a movie based on some things I have in mind.

Your daughter is right. Harry Potter does get better. Books 4, 5 and 6 are the best. They're aimed at children and teenagers so of course they lack the depth of works like Lord of the Rings, but I thought they were a pretty good read.
