Why can't you rebound, Derrick Brown?

i said it when he was here last time and i will say it again. i think Ups needs to find a niche. right now he is a jack of all trades forward. he can adequately play both forward spots, he can defend ok, he can shoot 3s ok, he can rebound ok, and he can slash ok. but he doesnt do any of those things well enough for a coach to consistently look in his direction.

instead of trying to work on a well rounded game and aiming to become a starter, he needs to create a well defined role for himself as a bench player. i think he is best suited as a either a defensive stopper/corner 3 specialist ala a poor mans robert horry or as a high energy/offensive rebounding maniac ala someone like poor mans tyler hansbrough. he has the physical skills to become either one of those types of players.

i knew from day 1 that UPS was upset the knicks even claimed him off of waivers. the plan was for the bobcats to pass him off of the backboard back to themselves and the knicks screwed that up. i'm glad he's back where he belongs, in a sense.

i was hoping he'd warm up to the knicks, but we'll be fine. i hope brown can indeed get some run with your team because i think he can ball. he's no gerald wallace, but he will play hard and WANTS to be there. no disrespect, but charlotte isn't exactly a free agency hotspot. so the fans who aren't happy to see him should at least appreciate that he wants to be there. it's the same principle as knick fans who don't appreciate the significance of an amar'e stoudemire WANTING to be in new york as opposed to being forced to report via trade.

best of luck to derrick brown, back home in charlotte. as a basketball fan, i hope to see his great athleticism on a consistent basis in a bobcats uniform.

Cheers for the post, I agree that it is better to have someone who wants to be in Charlotte as opposed to someone who doesn't.

I expect Derrick to get a lot of burn on our team considering our lack of depth & talent.

I think UPS can be an important part of our core off the bench.

I still wonder whether his contract is fully guaranteed. As smart thing to do would be give UPS a not fully guaranteed one, just in case we would need his spot i.e. need to cut somebody.
