Re: Knicks emerge as front runners for Jamal Crawford?
Do people think our frontcourt rotation is one player away from us contending?
Because if we get JC now, next offseason we'll have the MLE to use on a point and the $2m exception to use on a front court player. No draft picks, no expendable trade assets. JC will leave us high and dry and all we'll have to show for signing him is losing to the Bulls/Heat in the 2nd round.

i just don't like that trade off.
Fields backs up Melo.
Iman backs up JC.
Bibby backs up TD.

he's not an ideal 4 but we have nobody else. we'll be playing 3 guards off the bench and jeffries.

To win the championship you need a few good guys at one position/the guard positions-- look at Dallas- Barea, Terry, Kidd, Stevenson all played such vital roles in what they did. Deshawn brought in hustle, key defensive stopping, covering Lebron and such. We all know about the spark Barea provided, Miami had no answer him, in beg minutes starting. Kidd was Kidd, and Terry was huge down the stretch towards the end of the series, helping to close it out.
Shumpert, Crawford, Fields, Bibby or Barron can all help to produce a similar story line.

no one is saying talent level...i am strickly judging the move off need. Looking at our bench we are in much more need of a wing player then a combo guard off the bench. I have confidence that shumpert can provide that combo guard off the bench.
No our guard rotation is crap. Mike bibby could seriously be the best player. We can't put our hopes in a kid who has never played a minute of nba ball. Maybe's he's the real deal. That's great. But you can't assume.
We absolutely need an guard more than a forward right now. Jamal wouldnt just be a combo guard scorer. He would take over a lot of the pg duties and be primary or secondary play maker. We need that SO much more than we need another guy who can shoot corner threes (everyone can shoot corner threes, they are one of the easiest shots in the game) and defend threes and fours.

Not necessarily... as of right now you have absolutely no idea if the coaching staff feels Shumpert can play the 1 if they do he'll get plenty of minutes. He'll get minutes at the 2 as a stopper when we play a team with a guy like Wade and he'll play the 1 when we play a team Chicago with Rose who right now we have no one to guard him but the rook.

Wow, Crawful turned down that $10mil offer, hmmmmmmmmmmm. If he comes to the Knicks for the $2.5mil I promise to stop calling him Crawful, I fix the end of his name.
I can't promise I won't call him a chucker though..... that contract sacrifice gesture would only get so much goodwill from me. He would need to...well, stop chucking for me to not call him one.

Dallas had Haywood, Cardinal, and Mahinmi off the bench in the front court. We'd have Jefferies, Harrelson, and Jordan. Every other team that won a playoff series had multiple decent players backing up their bigs. We are not making it through a condensed playoff schedule with Tyson and Amare playing 40+ mpg.

I believe it would be a battle for that starting SG spot.
championship calibre starter??? are u serious!
every team he started for s*cked and didn't make the playoffs...when his role diminished to a 6-man scorer he proved his worth.
Jamal is a 6-man off the bench....any more and he is hurting the team more than helping
The guy played a huge role for atl...He was finishing games, not Marvin Williams.

come on you think they really needed Cardinal, yes he hit some shots while he played and some defensive effort, Haywood was banged up and didn't play some games, they *could* have won without them probably.

Don't be silly with the " I don't want Crawford if he'll take away Iman time!" stuff.... We haven't seen him play a single game... Nor are we a deep enough team to not find minutes for a young guy like him if he is worthy of them.
With all of Crawfords shortcomings in selection and defense, his potential to impact any given game is much greater imo than Shawne.. We are much more likely to win a game because of Crawfords offense than we are to lose one because he's defending and not Shawne.

YEAH CRAW!!!!!! Told ya'll he was a team player! Dude is gonna sign with the Knicks and correct the image some of you have of him. He always said he wanted to win here in NY. Dude loves it here and is a really good guy. How can people hate him?
We were worried about trading Douglas for him. If he comes here for just the room exception, allowing us to keep Toney, that is a real coup for the Knicks. A big reason to cheer this guy on, not vilify him. Let's get it done.

Also, why would Crawford take Iman's time? They are complimentary players.

They wouldn't have won with a front court of Dirk, Chandler, Jefferies, Harrelson, and Jordan. No way.
And not only is our front court very shallow, but we have huge issues at the point guard. We are relying on a guy who got so overwhelmed against Boston. If you don't believe me look at Carter's +/-. Point is, we are at least a year away from winning the East. We need every asset we can stockpile to get past Miami, who is already in the course of building a deep team offseason by offseason.

With so many games being played in such a short time, we need as many guys that can contribute as possible. I don't think we need to worry about people taking up minutes from someone else.

SMH at this board already claiming this guy the next big thing. Ridiculous with this love for a guy who hasn't played a single NBA game yet.

What you just said is one of the question marks though. He finished games for Atl took the big shots and all, is he gonna know how to give that rock up to stat and melo during crunch time. Honestly he never gave it up to Joe so........
You dont want another Chauncey who thinks he is the most clutch player in the league when he is actually not. Taking crazy ass threes and stuff.

Wow...I'm sorry but something has to be said for a guy who turns down THAT much money if he ends up coming to NY. I will fully be in support of him just because of that...It aint easy to do, at all.
