ive been thinking about our Center situation, and im optimistic for 2 reasons :

1) i got a gut feeling Riely isnt done yet. we still have the MLE guys. that's about 5 mil per year. i doubt that Samuel Dalembert or Kwame Brown could get much more than that from other teams at this point. and if they do, it would be on crappy teams. it's quite possible we land one of them IMO.

2) i think Eddy Curry and Dexter Pittman both have potential to suprise us, in a good way. (being an upgrade over what we had last season isnt that hard to acomplish). both have great size and could bring most of what need from our Center position.

We don't have the MLE or the Bi-annual unless we amnesty Miller. Presumably we spent the mini-mle on Battier. As of now I think we can only sign minimum guys.

Once a year, teams are allowed to sign a player to a contract equal to the average NBA salary, even if the team is over the salary cap already, or if the signing would put them over the cap

Mario = Larry Bird exception
Battier = mini MLE

last year's MLE = 5.8 Mil $

Come on, we have to find someone better than Joel for that.

Nope new CBA. You either get the MLE or the Mini MLE. We only had the mini because we are a tax team. We presumably used the Mini MLE on Battier.

We also can't use the bi-annual since we are a tax team.

So its:

Mario = Bird exception
Battier = mini MLE (most likely)
Any one else would have to be a minimum guy.

If we amnesty Miller it becomes:

Mario = Bird exception
Battier = Part of MLE
Other guy = Part of MLE
Other guy = Bi-annual
Anyone else minimum

What is going on with Kwame Brown? I've heard nothing about him.

MIAMI— The goal never was to line up with a starting center who, Dwyane Wade insists, is "6-7, on a good day" and a backup who is listed at 235 pounds.

But sometimes reality dictates otherwise.

Tuesday's sobering reality was Charlotte Bobcats free-agent center Kwame Brown signing to play for the Golden State Warriors for $7 million this season. Yes, that Kwame Brown.

Another reality is that through five sessions of Miami Heat training camp, free-agent addition Eddy Curry has been able to make it through fewer than two, now sidelined by a hip flexor.

That means, for now, Joel Anthony, listed at 6 feet 9 but sized up two inches shorter by Wade, likely will take his 245-pound frame into the middle on opening night, with Chris Bosh, who is listed at 235, as the primary backup.

OMG lol Brown got 7 Million!!

And thank you Wade for confirming that Joel is 6'7 not 6'9.

Regardless of the fact they needed defense, seeing him run that insanely fast game pace is going to be a sight to see. The amount of times this guy will be on oxygen on the bench is going to be like a defensive linemen just ran a 40 yard INT for a touchdown.

I might be in the minority but considering we never had the cap space to bring in a legit option at center, I am happy we didnt flood our roster with vets like Magloire, Big Z, Dampier etc. I like that Curry and DexPitt are the ONLY options beyond Joel and CB1. I want to see what these guys are made of and their is no question Pittman and Curry will get a -shot.

and I also highly doubt Riles would run with only Joel-Curry-Pittman if he didnt have an idea of what we can expect from Bosh in a bigger role in the middle and the prospects of Curry/Pittman.

only player I would take a flier on would be Thabeet. maybe Pryzbilla if healthy

Centers we need to aggressively pursue before the season starts
1.Kyrylo Fesenko
2.Jason Collins
3.N'Daiye Hamady
4.Alexis Ajinca
5.Didier Ilunga-Mbenga

All of these players can give us at least 10-15 minutes a game at a minimum salary we need players like these but sadly i doubt Pat will pursue any of them. :*(

If David Stern wants to save the NBA teams that are not good, veto some of these bad contracts that theese teams signed for some average centers.

I'm kinda glad Pat won't go after these guys. They are all bums. Would take a chance on Thabeet or JO. A definite he'll no to #2.

Thabeet sucks major ass, he has no skills besides being 7 foot tall, he's a bust.

Alexis Ajinca is a good guy to get if he is a free agent, good defensive potential, a good offensive player also.

He would fit Spo's scheme on offense and defense...but doubt Heat would want him.

Is there any chance we can acquire one of the Hornets centers?

Now they have Okafor AND Kaman.

We could use 1 of them. but it would have to be in trade..

We can't acquire either one of them simply because we have no cap space, same as the Hornets I think. So, the Hornets will most likely trade one of them for salary dump, therefore they will only trade Okafor or Kaman to teams which has cap space or trade exceptions and receive minimum salary players or future picks in return.

I'm not 100% sure though :D

Doesn't have to be Haslem... Miami can send Joel Anthony, Mike Miller, Eddie House for Okafor. That trade works salary wise.

What about the prospect of trading those 3 guys and involving a third team in the trade? We send Mike Miller and Joel to teams with trade exceptions ...

3rd team sends TPE to the Hornets and receives Miller/Joel/House, and Miami receives Okafor.

If that 3rd team only wants Miller or Joel, then find a 4th team with cap space and send the other player to them for TPE.

Either way, NOH gets the TPE's and we get Okafor.

Pittman is going to be a huge contributor to this team. I see him and Curry as our main centers this year. (please no Joel) Also, Bosh and Haslem will play the 5 when we go small.
