Hedo/1st for G Wallace that should be a no brainer!

Oh and Fire Otis, I think I will throw that in every post I make!

Nets offered everything they could for Howard: Brook Lopez + FIVE 1st Rd picks. Theirs in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018 + Rockets 2012 pick. 1 minute ago

So Brook Lopez and what would turn out to be 4 Ortons and 1 JJ Redick

Four of those first rounders were supposedly going to Portland, we would've received Wallace, Lopez and one of those picks.

daldridgetnt David Aldridge
As I said this AM, Orlando trading D12 right now is a longshot. Per Yahoo!, Magic pulls out of trade talks. Still think they can keep him.

rcklsscognition wrote:Just to clarify, we would need to renounce Dwight Howard's bird rights and release him in order to clear his salary cap hold from our books. If we did so, we would be at about 46 million in salary (that's not including any of you all's cuts, player options, trades, etc). At that point, we could only offer Dwight a 4 year deal with 4.5% raises. We would have no financial leverage over any other team because we renounced his rights.

If we talk DWill into coming here it doesn't matter about Dwight's cap hold. Keep Dwight's Bird Rights, resign him to a lower starting salary (a la the heat: Amount equal to the cap space w/o Dwight's hold divided by 2). This removes his cap hold immediately since he has an actual salary. Sign DWill to the same amount (which is equal to the remaining cap space). Dwight can get max raises in this case.

Now, going over the numbers one more time...

Hedo Turkoglu: $11,815,850
Glen Davis: $6,500,000
Jason Richardson: $6,250,000
Chris Duhon: $3,500,000
Quentin Richardson: $2,627,400
Justin Harper: $550,000

That leaves six players under contract. Because of this, cap holds of the minimum salary (~$500,000) must be added in for the remaining open roster spots. Dwight will take up one since he resigns first, so I'll add 5 holds (~$2,500,000).

Now adding it all up... $33,743,250

Assuming the same cap as this year (since the players' BRI split is going down next year to offset the gains), that leaves $58,044,000 - $33,743,250 = $24,300,750

Divide that by 2 and you have a starting salary of about $12M for Dwight and DWill. Not enough in my opinion, but if we can trade some of our assets (Ryno, JJ, Jameer) in combination with some of these contracts for expirings, that could make a huge difference.

Also, in this situation, we could renounce Jameer when he declines his option and still use the full MLE on him like a normal FA (instead of keeping his Bird rights).

It keeps coming up so I thought I would clarify the whole cap situation at this point. Questions?

“Dwight’s not a happy camper,” one league source told Y! Sports.

If this is true, it's only going to deteriorate the relationship between Dwight and the Magic FO.

How happy is Deron right now?
Well, Deron hasn't requested a trade twice so I would say happier than Dwight.

Nets are saving cap space for Dwight and 2012 FA. I'm sure Deron understands that.
