Now yer just reaching for reasons to be negative. If he's lying in that case, and just does it for the money, then he'll stay...

Talks between the Magic and Nets reached the ownership level before Otis Smith began to inform teams that Dwight Howard had been removed from trade consideration.

Howard told teammates on Tuesday that he thought the trade to the Nets was a “done deal,” a league source told Y! Sports. Twenty-four hours later on Wednesday, Howard told them he was under the impression that “ownership killed it,” the source said.

What does "ownership level" mean? This whole story doesn't make sense.

I think that means the GM presented the deal to the owner. Sort of like when the NBA player's union wouldn't present them a deal until they thought it was the best they'd get or that they would vote on it. So, Otis approved of the trade, took it to Martins/Devos who turned it down. IMO

Funny......not but scary true

btw... I know RIP is on the wrong side of 30... but they definitely upgraded their SG spot... he can still run off-the-ball like a mad man and keep his defender continuously expending energy and guessing

That's the only reason we'd be able to land him...

hold on to him. like i said call his bluff. lets see if he really wants to leave 30 million on the table. whether we trade him to nj or let him walk we suck for the next 5 years anyways. but if we let him walk at least we get another season as contenders and we won't have to see lopez get outrebouned by guards and tossed around in the paint like a ragdoll every night.

We don't have to do anything now. The offers suck. THey know how good he is, but if he beasts on Christmas then teams will come running again. Even ones who may want the rental. If he is traded to a team who risks him not signing longterm then he may do like CP3 and opt in, and wait another year to keep his options intact, while allowing the team(s) he is courting to get into better position to sign him.

If it goes like this, ORL will be in the club with CLE and TOR as far as not attracting free agents. Players will remember stuff like that.

If the team trades him after Jan 1st he can just not opt of his current contract with his new team. Then sign a full max contract the next. So it would definitely be a he has to opt out in the summer and walk for nothing scenario if Orlando were to force him to lose his 30 mil

Reporter: "Would you be willing to go right up until the trade deadline...?"

Otis: "Well, I'm willing to keep him in this uniform as long as I can. That may mean all the way up until the end of the season...so with that said, we could end up going to the end of the season."

Earlier:

"Nothing got to the point where we could say we had a deal (looks towards the sky, down at feet) um, (shrugs shoulders and frowns) not at this point."

Otis displaying all the signs of wanting to trade Dwight. Then he goes and says he's willing to hold him all season. Clearly trying to gain some leverage there.

Well then let's not trade after Jan 1st. After January 1st, hold on to him and the only way he gets his bird rights is stay with us another year...
