Oh, I didn't mean to criticize Shawne, didn't even realize I had. My point was to highlight how bad the knicks bench is and why they're so broken up about losing him.

Excuse some of us for not seeing the point in signing a player with a checkered past and a history of erratic play... You could do worse than Shawne Williams but I can't help but feel that this deal is going to provide a whole lot of nothing to the team. :-?

I wasn't referring to you lol. I just meant the fact that some people are almost suggesting that this signing is bad, while we still have Outlaw riding exercise bikes with his fractured hand during training camp.

The highlights goes from showing him defending Westbrook 1 on 1 with no help defense and straight stripping him and then the very next highlight of him is blocking Dirk's jumpshot. I'm not saying he's got DPOY skills but he clearly has good defensive skills for him to be able to do that. I can't even remember the last time I've seen Dirk's shot blocked.

He stretches the defense out to the 3pt line and I just can't wait to see him and Morrow standing in both corners just waiting for the open 3 as D-Will drive and kicks.

Yeah... I guess all I'm really saying is that this signing is just a run-of-the-mill deal, really nothing to see here. I wouldn't get too high on it, but wouldn't get too down on it either, the Nets will have enough cap space / flexibility to sign Howard next year as long as they don't ink multiple players to multi-year trout-style-contracts.

We'll, he's stated that he's willing to take a discount to return to the Knicks. He loved it here last year. It also seems as if he waited for the Knicks situation with Jamal Crawford to play out, before signing with anyone. Then, after the Knicks miss out on Crawford, he then has dinner with H20? The writing is on the wall...

Oh really?

NYK StateOfMind wrote:He's good bench depth, but that's about it. Is he really becoming a starting SF for NJ? That has disaster written all over it, especially considering the fact that he couldn't beat our bench guys such as Wilson Chandler, Toney Douglas or even Jeffries for playing time on the KNICKS bench last year.

But once again, he's a pretty good bench depth type of player.

Enjoy the Purp.

Butt-hurt?

Ok now on the serious side of things. I think Shawne is a really good signing, and I agree with the rest that he'll spread the floor well and is a great complement to Dwight assuming we sign him.

What if? The Knixed picked-up Outlaw? That would be hilarious lol...

N Ireland Nets wrote:Also its a 2 year deal, he will be very dangerous with Dwight by helping to spread the floor if we manage to sign Dwight Howard. Imagine Morrow and Shawne Williams on the floor at the same time with Deron feeding either those two while Dwight is in the paint. Would be Filthy McNasty

Just jizzed at the thought of that, that would be one hell a line-up

I would like AK here but if he wants too much money, even if its for 1 year, I don't want him.

Knicks fan here, he's a good teammate and good 3pt shooter. Hopefully the Knicks can find someone who can replace his 5 points per game average.

Given that Amar'e has already gone on record as stating he doesn't think his knee will hold up this season... You better be praying the Knicks can find a rotation level player to replace Shawne Williams in the near future.

Yeh, he's so bad the Knicks chased him hard, took him out to dinner & everything. Even tried after verbally committing to the Nets to get Williams to reconsider, so you might not rate him but your front office clearly does.

Knicks obviously wanted him and a lot of Knick fans wanted to keep him too. He had a nice year last year, 40% from 3, 84% from the line. Played some backup 3 and 4. and it was 7 PPG - LOLzzz, but it's not the numbers. He knew his role and he'd worked hard on his game after not sticking with 2 teams and being out of the NBA for a year.

He could be a nicepickup. Knicks will hope Balkman will fill his shoes.
Go Knicks!! Go Mets!!

As for the Jets . . . just keep it entertaining.

Shawne Williams still isn't with team. And when he arrives, Avery said Damion James will still be the starting small forward.

I don't get it. What is Avery's infatuation with D.James?

well, it isn't like Shawne Williams has shown THAT much either, but I remain cynical about Damion Jame's NBA prospects. still looks like a situational, sub-20 MPG energy/glue guy to me. i'd be glad to proven wrong though

how is Shawne's man defense against SFs? can he guard that position full time, night in and night out?

I agree. I know that their are several top players at the SF position but James is not going to slow down anyone especially the stars. We NEED scoring and I don't know why Avery continues to go for these guys that won't really make a difference.
