Player Outlook: Jason Collins

What do you expect from Jason Collins? What is acceptable contribution from Twin?

There is a difference between prediction and outlook. We have something to go on with Collins. We all know that he is a solid guy for the locker room and that he can be a inspiration and show the way on the court. I firmly believe that his effect on that 1st rd with Orlando last year was greater than anything Hinrich did. I only bring Hinrich up in this thread because many want to give him too much credit for the 1st round which I still don't see. We all know that perimeter defense is about help. You don't shutdown NBA type guards by yourself. Collins provided extra time for all the perimeter defenders by giving up his body against Dwight. He showed the way to the point that even Zaza and Al looked better against Dwight. A lot of people seem to forget that the team also played better against Chicago in games that he started.

IMO, every moment that Jason is on the floor and plays well puts the Hawks closer to a championship by reinforcing the fact that the Hawks need a more traditional sized Center.

Thus, I think Jason Collins will be one of the more important Hawks this season regardless of stats.

I completely agree with you.
Collins played really good against Orlando. Played defense, that's it.
He defended Howard, try to fight some off rebounds in order to slow down their transition and many, many times, put a screen on Howard, so another companion could penetrate with ease. I do not know if this is something you saw, but it was really important from my point of view.

Also he was so intelligent that he did little to infurate Howard. Dwight did not play with that angry pose that has shown in other PO series, alá Shaq.

In offense I would like he to shoot just a little bit more. He can make it from the FT line. Also he is really big, so he just have to receive and force a close shot or try to get a foul.

Word out of camp is that he is in better shape once again this year, a vet showing the way.
