don't worry I won't be booing your precious baby. I won't bother going until that brat gets out of MY city.

edit: btw you are certainly on his nuts when your cheering is intended to beg him to stay. get off your knees. it will feel better when he leaves to know you still have some dignity.

Dude, calm down. No-one is saying you have to cheer for him, or be "on his nuts", but equally there is no need to be booing him, which was the point people were making and something you've said you weren't going to do. So why the anger?

Dwight Howard is 26 years old, he's in his 8th year with the Magic, and for whatever reason, he's decided that right now he wants to be elsewhere. None of us want him to play for another team, and we would rather he stay, but why on earth has that provoked such an angry response from you?

"brat gets out of MY city"?

Really? I know he's not an Orlando native, but by all accounts, Dwight Howard embraced Orlando as his own, and has done more for the people and communities of the city, both personally and financially, than 99% of Orlando Magic fans.

Fact is, Magic fans could show him how grateful they are for his seven years of service for the team and the city and let him know they want him to stay by cheering him today, or they could let the last two weeks muddy their view of a young man who has brought them a lot of good times and has done nothing worse than want a change of scenery at work and boo him. At the very least, those who can't bring themselves to cheer him (and the fact that he still has "Magic" on the front of his jersey should be enough to warrant cheering) could stay silent.

And remember, while he may have requested a trade (which I don't like, but at least it gives the FO a clear understanding of where they stand with him), it wasn't Dwight who made it public and turned it into a circus, it was Otis.

So, with BBD slotted to back up Dwight, Anderson is looking like he could see another run at starting. Based on salary that would mean a SL of Nelson/JRich/Hedo/Anderson/Dwight. Last season that lineup logged 216 minutes and had a rating differential of 4.2 (replace Anderson with Bass and that lineup had a differential of 9.6). In the playoffs it was even worse with a differential of -15.13! I'm a huge Anderson homer but that is firing off red flags for me. I'm hoping for BBD to start in place of Anderson or for that unit to work out their shite, cause based on last year it won't be good enough to win much, let alone keep Dwight.

Another reason to support moving Anderson to the bench next to Redick is that a starting lineup (a lineup featuring 3/5ths of the SL) of Nelson/Redick/JRich/Anderson/Dwight had a differential of 19.83, which is championship material.

I'm really interested to see if Anderson/Redick can't come out gang busters this year. If Earl Clark can take the next step and be a reliable rotation player you could have a decent bench unit of Nelson/JJ/EC/Anderson/Dwight. Those 12 minutes without Dwight, and 18 without Nelson are going to be scary this year though.

I am more and more liking the idea of trading with the Lakers to be honest. To win the NBA you almost HAVE to have a legit big-man....and the lakers have two of them (granted one is injury prone, but he has trade value - he also lost weight this summer, so we will probably get a chance to see how his knees hold up in this hyper-schedule before making that decision....BUT lets say that he holds up OK). There will be TONS of teams looking for the "second best center in the league". If you thought Gortat had trade value, wait to see what people will give for a healthy Bynum.

I'm more and more thinking that if we managed to get both Pau and Bynum from the Lakers (which is more likely now that Kobe is pissed at them and the Clippers are stealing the thunder in LA)...

Something along these lines:

http://basketball.realgm.com/tradecheck ... de/5953535

Not only would we be deep, but we would have the killer 1-2 punch of a great scorer/slasher in Monta and a great big man in Pau. Surrounded by a lot of good talent as well

Lineup:

Monta/Meer/Hughes
JRich/JJ/Monta/Liggins
Metta/Wright/Earl/Jrich
BBD/Ryan/Harper
Pau/BBD/Ryan/Orton

Talk about a crazy deep lineup, with a legit starting 5 as well. Pretty decent defensively as well. We have our wing defender in Metta, our hard-nosed body-up PF in BBD....Pau is decent enough at the 5....Monta is quick and is one of the league leaders in steals. JRich isn't a great defender, but we could always slide Metta there or bring in Liggins or Earl as a stopper. Wright is a great 3pt shooter to open up the floor for the other guys. I really do think people drastically under-estimate how good Pau is, mostly because he has both Kobe and Bynum on that team taking a lot of his touches away. Could easily play the 5 for us in a league where there are almost no real 5s anymore. This is assuming of course that GSW would take Bynum, but I have to think they'd salivate at that chance since they really want a big man. I originally wanted to flip Pau for Scola+Martin+Dragic+Houston's pick....but we are already kind of deep at the 2 and 4, so unless we moves other pieces that might not be efficient. Meer can now be the scorer off the bench, or slide Monta to the 2 and Jrich to the 3 if we want Meer starting at PG sometimes. Very versatile. In fact, it's so deep that we could even possibly package JJ+Ryan+Meer for something really solid as well? Thoughts on that lineup?

If we are trading Dwight I want one of Bynum, Bogut, or Lopez, cap space, and draft picks.

Pau is better than Bynum, Bogut, Lopez (Lopez is going to get paid in the $15mil per yr range in a year or two anyways, so it's not like his cheaper salary really matters much). I would prefer to flip one of them (preferably Bynum since his injuries could come back to haunt us if we re-upped him on a long term contract, and he has a lot of trade value), and then start the other at C. Preferably flipped for a PG (like Monta), plus another piece or two. This cap-space thing is ridiculous....I've stated time and time again....who exactly are you hoping to go after, which FAs? All of the top players in the league either aren't coming here without Dwight (CP3, Deron) or they're already locked up for 3+ years from now. I posted a list of all available UFAs in the next couple years, and they're all a complete joke/waste of money. Do you know what cap-space will do? Give us another Rashard-esque FA/contract. Houston's draft pick would be nice, because I'll bet it will be a top 10 pick next summer....but other than that, I don't want a bunch of crappy late first round picks (problem is any team we send Dwight to will probably do very well and so the picks will suck). We never do anything with those. That team above can easily be a top 4 team in the east and compete. Good defense, good offense, balanced scoring, a guy who can create his own shot....3 pt shooters...better passing than we have now (Pau is a fantastic passer for a big man). If Bynum can come into his own, fantastic....but that obviously remains to be seen, and it's a humongous risk. If you really want cap-space you could just not exercise Bynum's option or wait until the end of next year and let him walk. But again, cap-space clearing at this stage is pointless to me.

If we trade Dwight, imagine Anderson defending him in the paint.

I'd prefer not to trade him at all, but if we do I don't want a veteran on the decline I'd rather have a young potential stud, with the cap space and picks to build around him.

Dorell Wright came out of nowhere last yr with a 16-5-3 year. He has a ton of potential upside. Monta is a young potential stud, he already is a stud. Why is Pau "on the decline"? Because of one crappy playoff series that everyone on the Lakers sucked in? He averaged 19-10-3 last year....basically the EXACT same stats he has put up his entire career. Without Bynum next to him or Kobe putting up tons of shots (though Monta probably would replace Kobe in that respect) those would probably only improve. No real injury issues. He isn't 35, he's 31. Very smart player, good veteran leadership that this team needs (Bynum is a young, immature cheap-shotting thug). Name me a team who has won the championship in the past 20 yrs without a veteran playing a huge role? None. Maybe not ever. Gimme Pau all day baby

Don't get me wrong....if Bynum is healthy, I'd love to have him as our starting C with Pau at PF. That would be very nasty (or flip Pau for Martin + Scola). Either way...we would have a logjam at PF and SG....so we could then try to package Jameer+JJ/JRich+Ryan for a very solid piece....maybe like a Monta if GSW decide they want to move him.

Monta
JRich/JJ
Wright
Pau
Bynum

or

Monta
Martin
JRich
Scola
Bynum

Both are pretty great lineups if Bynum is healthy. Part of the problem is if he is healthy, Lakers might not agree to package BOTH him and Pau.

The problem is, there's really no reason to expect Bynum to remain healthy. What he's shown so far is great playing ability combined with an inability to make it through the grind of the NBA season.

Does anyone really believe that this year's compressed schedule makes it less likely he gets injured?

lol dude what?

enjoy the parade team we have until the deadline.... what don't you get about the fact that:

a) unless we DO get some star or another wishlist player, dwight will leave, so what's the point?

b) Otis Smith is our gm so it isn't likely we will have any changes.

c) howard CONTINUES to seek a trade and was set on this since before the offseason.

d) I personally would rather just get our REAL team and struggle than to watch us compete with dwight only for him to leave maybe midseason and be let down.

it isn't abandonment, it's recognizing the inevitable and refusing to get on my knees for the great dwight howard. he's just a man, a human being. he isn't a god. let him go and let's get some people that TRULY love this city and want to bleed blue and white like us.

Kobe did the exact same thing to the lakers and stayed. I think the laker fans are happy he did.

I'd want a Laker trade for Bynum and Gasol because it gives us size and value and trade options BUT it also sends Dwight out West...He would only kill us twice a year and once a year in Orlando...
