I never wanted to pay Cincy's asking price for Votto (if they even had one)

He's likely to hit the market as a FA in 2 years. We'll drive the truck of money to his front door then

As for the trade itself, I'm suprised the Padres parted with Latos. He's been their best starter over the last 2 years and he's only 24

I would assume another prospect or 2 will head to San Diego as well.

Rizzo and alonso on the same team? I bet, long term, neither is the answer at 1B for padres. I wonder if AA knew about this trade because if all it took is alonso, and maybe 1 of grandal/mesoraco and couple of low level prospects, Jays could've easily matched it. I'd take Latos over darvish any day of the week.

why are they trading for a guy with no power who now has to hit in the most homer suppressing ballpark in the majors ?

it's going to have to be a hell of a lot more than Yonder... If I was San Diego I would have asked for Chapman and Alonso

volquez is junk pitcher on top of being injury prone. Padres better be getting 1 of grandal/mesoraco as well.

Well it seems like CIN gets a pretty good deal unless "among others" is a lot. I'm not a huge fan of trading for SD pitchers, but it doesn't look like they're paying a premium and the main piece appears to be a guy who is severely roadblocked.

Oh, just saw it included Volquez. If that's others, CIN is still way out in front to me.

That's a bit more like it. Still, I'm happy if I'm a Reds fan.

Latos is under control for 4 more years, i believe.. I still don't think it's good enough perhaps it's because i am not the biggest fans of Alonso or Grandel.

that's an excellent deal for the Reds, Grandal is a good prospect but Latos is fair value. Alonso is mediocre and Volquez is useless, i don't anything about boxberger though.

I looked him up. A sparsely used reliever in the minors, albeit with some pretty darn solid numbers (too many walks though). Definitely not a deal breaker.

Mostly, it's not a terrible haul for SD, although I'm surprised they couldn't get a deal where the second best prospect received plays a position other than Rizzo and maybe Blanks already. Yonder's not blocked per se, but now they're crowded.

From CIN's perspective they use excess depth to get a very good pitcher and I don't see how they could've ever gotten a better piece for them.

Great return for the Padres.
