He was promoted by the Montreal Canadiens to replace Jacques Martin on an interim basis. He doesn't speak French. You can imagine where it goes from here.
Since the hiring, the French-speaking media have denounced the move, a separatist group has threatened to boycott Molson beer to protest Habs owner Geoff Molson — no big loss, as we all know the French only drink wine (just jokes, people) — and Philippe Cantin of La Presse called the hiring of Cunneyworth no less than an insult to the province
http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puc ... hl-wp20220He's been hired for what, a week? Apparently I'm the clueless one when it comes to Montreal's media...
We were talking about Muller, genius. Not Cunneyworth. And I already gave you the reasons why Kirkie wouldn't be treated this way - seeing as most of Montreal wanted him as coach to begin with. Stop pulling at straws to try and win a debate you lost a few posts ago.
The whole situation is stupid, and it just makes Quebec look more moronic than it already does. I'm Native American, so I could care less what anyone is saying about the french because I'll most likely agree with them on each point. I just think it's stupid that they'll go to the lengths of boycotting Molson beer just because they want a french coach.
I've already said this before, but if Quebec wants to be 100% french so badly, they shouldn't have any of their athletes participate in the Olympics to represent an English country. If they want to handicap their own people that badly, in that they'll only speak a language (not to mention, a broken version of french that the Parisians laugh at) that a minority speak, I say let them go for it. As soon as I'm done school I'm probably moving to Toronto anyways, so I could care less.
Your biased opinion doesn't win you any debates. If you can't go a single post without an insult, I'd really suggest I'm dealing with some pre-teen talking about the Canadiens. You're saying Montreal would be supportive with Muller, and I'm saying they can't support the coach they've had for a week. That's where the comparison comes in, genius.
Other than your biased opinion, can you really prove they'd support Muller, and allow him on a 'long leash'? Since 1995, every coach they've had (minus Alain Vigneault) finished with a winning record over .500.
How'd stanley cup winning coach Claude Julien do with you?
On January 17, 2003, Julien became head coach of the Montreal Canadiens. In 2004, his first full season as an NHL head coach, he led Montreal to a 93 point performance (41–30–7–4 record) and the second round of the playoffs. He was fired and replaced by GM Bob Gainey on January 14, 2006. Julien accumulated a win-loss-OverTimeLoss-ShootOutLoss record of 72–62–11–14 during his three seasons
...but Kirk Muller would be on a long leash? Based on his popularity? Right. That's like me saying the Leafs would love Doug Gilmour as a coach, and would be on a long leash should he become coach, regardless how he does. If a team in a huge market loses, it doesn't matter who the coach is. If you think any different, then you're right....this debate was done long ago.
Thanks though.
