Ummm what?

Who said Jimmer couldn't play in the NBA? 19 pts 4 assists so far in 3rd qtr. Jimmer time!

I asked Maggs when he was gonna play and he said he won't miss any games. Don't know if he meant preseason though.

Were you able to get a close look at what he had strapped on his low back under his warm ups?

What the heck is up with that? Can't practice or train because a national flight made you thirsty?
Did he actually grow wings and fly?

LOL. I hope so. He could re-enter slam dunk contest with pair of those.

DJW - looking ok? Did he get much burn?

How did Biz come across in person? Large and in charge? Does he pass the "he can 100% be a C in the NBA just by looking him up and down" test?

Funny you say that about T2. I mentioned that to a mate the other week - T2 seems like a dude who would struggle putting weight on and keeping it on rather than putting taking it off and keeping it off.

Was there many peeps there?

Attendance was probably 3k or so.

When we attend games, we're usually upstairs or towards the middle to top of the lower bowl. It was nice to be able to watch this practice and scrimmage close to the floor.

Observations:

--DJW had a good showing. He played on Kemba's reserve squad and scored on post up plays against Tyrus on at least two occasions. His mid range jumper is still money.

--Tyrus does look painfully thin.

--D Brown has really worked on his jumper. He was shooting corner threes during warm-ups and while uncontested, he was nailing 3 out of 4. His ball handling is what holds him back from really excelling at the three.

--We were only 6 rows behind the White squad bench where Biz and Maggs were sitting. Maggs did not participate in the practice or scrimmage and had either an ice or heat pack affixed to his lower back the whole time. Not a good omen. Biz was wearing a grey sweatsuit emblazoned with some Euro looking logo on the chest and while he didnt look to be much taller than Diaw, his wingspan is as freakish as advertised. We were floored by this when we watched him casually extend both arms across the tops of the chairs flanking him as he watched the scrimmage. As Bonnell has noted, you really do feel bad for the guy because you can tell he'd like to get out there but can only sit and watch. The PA announcer didnt even acknowledge him during the player intros even though Maggs, Najara and Reggie got shout outs.

--Diop looked like an absolute embarrassment. The scrimmage was only two 12 minute halves and he probably had 4-5 fouls. He's overweight and looks to be in terrible condition. He was wearing those ridiculous tights the DWade loved a couple years back before the league banned them and he had visible underarm and back sweat seaping through his practice clothes before the practice even officially started. Given that he was only cleared for full activity a few weeks ago, this isnt necessarily his fault but it was ugly nonetheless. Silas yelled for Walker to run a post up play for him at one point during the scrimmage and Diop barreled over his defender and threw up a sloppy half hook that barely drew iron. He seemed to struggle to even get sufficient elevation to dunk in a couple of the pre scrimmage drills.

The two most impressive players IMO were Hendo and DJA. Hendo showed no ill effects from the hip sx, had some athletic practice dunks and even drilled a couple contested threes during the scrimmage. DJA was easily the better of the two PGs. He made some good drive and dishes, hit jumpers as usual and connected with D-brown for a spectacular ally on a break.

Kemba is the fastest guy on the floor, hands down and really pushes the tempo on the break. He had a couple impressive breakdowns on the dribble culminating in those vintage UCONN mid range jumpers. However, he is as green and fresh grass when it comes to NBA PG decision making at this early stage. He had 2-3 messy turnovers that stand out including a poorly thrown ally oop that manute bol couldn’t have caught, let alone the D-leaguer it was intended for. He didn’t attempt any 3s despite being open. Its apparent he’s going to face the same challenges DJ did in adjusting to NBA interior defenses at his diminutive size. Like we’ve seen with DJ, there were a couple times he penetrated with his speed but wasn’t able to get a shot off among the trees. And on one fast break, Diaw purposely sagged off him, dared Kemba to take the open lane, and then blocked his shot out of bounds when Kemba went in for the layup.

--Taylor Griffin looks to be all of 6’6. It’s a shame because he is clearly a crafty player who would be a coveted PF in the League but is 2-3 inches too short.

--Melvin Ely lost the cornrows. Is now bald.

--Finally, the highlight of the evening was Paul Silas’ pants which were at least 5 inches too short and ended at his ankles. It was reminiscent of Luis Tully’s slacks from Ghostbusters 1. Silas is like everyone’s favorite neighborhood Grandpa. It was evident that he’s really getting up there in years and seemed to be lumbering pretty slow. He’s probably got 1-2 more seasons in him tops.

Thank you both SO much. Loved what you both added. Really gave us a taste into what is going on.

Great to hear DJW was using some post gear to get it done. We need that.

Interesting your remarks on Biz. I compared him to Gerald Wallace in that when he was here and an All Star how uncomfortable he looked in that game because he only has 1 gear - which is balls to the wall. Biz strikes me the same way. He takes it serious. Real damn serious. Personally. Doesn't want mag covers or shoe contracts or media. Just wants to smash dudes. I'm not surprised it eats at him sitting and having to watch while being 100% healthy. Not stoked to hear he doesn't look much taller than Boris though. Could do without ANOTHER undersized C (Okafor).

How was his interaction with the other players? High fives, eye contact, mateship, coolness etc?

Hendo still doing his "Hendo" thing? Curl, catch, shoot? Good to hear he can still get up. Did he still have that "star" vibe to him? Were your eyes drawn to him? Good to hear DJA is moving the ball and probing.

Kemba must be lightning if he is the fastest on court!! The amount of times we screamed for the offense to keep up with DJA on the break last season is countless. Hopefully Kemba finds and uses his gears quickly and realizes that 100% isn't always the best way.

Coach Silas and MJ need to get together and talk about pant length then come up with a happy medium.

Just found out how Jackson is already spreading his cancer in Milwaukee, dogging it until he gets a contract extension when he still has two years left

   :o :o Dmuto123 observations were right on. I was there also and just wondered the following questions as I first saw this team on the floor:
1.In the shape Diop is in, its just a matter of time before he is back on IR...I wonder how long and if there is any NBA league rule (Brandon Roy situation) where a doctor indicate his health is such he retire rather than force us to use amensity on him? It's a shame but he looked really bad. We definitely need to pick up a center somewhere/somehow.
2.BB looked like maybe an answer to above, but his contract is a major question. If tomorrows court ruling goes against us, he could end up like Rubio playing a couple of years more in Europe. It could be 2014 before we see him. Would the NBA then offer us another Roster spot exception?
3.Kemba looked lost on floor compared to DJ, but I guess we can expect that from an R. I wonder if the Bobcats might keep a "Bigger" third point on the roster?
4. I really liked what I saw out of Ausie League invitee Muhammad, I wonder if he could take Cunninghams Roster Spot ? We have an offer out to Dante? Can't he make his mind up or is he in jail somewhere?
5.I really did not like the attendance I saw at TWC arena. I have been to these open practices all the way back thru the Bobcats(and Hornets) Allot of the regulars are gone . Most of the people in attendance yesterday were below the age of 12. For MJ's financial sake I hope opening night is a sellout against the Bucks.

I dont place too much stock one way or the other in the attendance figures for an open practice like this. It was basically some stretching, layup lines and a 24 minute scrimmage for anyone willing to walk in off the streets for free.

I read that LAL had 10k attend their open practice but Charlotte isnt Los Angelas in either size or talent stature. 2500 -3k people wasnt a bad turnout

Diop looked horrendous and the surgically repaired heel may not be right but more than anything, he is just terribly out of shape and overweight. He's a poorly talented player even when healthy and now that he's in the condition everyone saw yesterday, he's especially worthless. That said, I wouldnt hold your breath for him ever being medically retired unless being fat, uncoordinated and sloth-like is considered permissable grounds.

As for a third PG, a combo guard like shumpert would be ideal but they dont grow on trees. Its a shame the lockout couldnt have been resolved before we lost Temple to overseas.

I don't know why so many people are killing on Diop right now. He's fat and out of shape because he couldn't do cardio. That's understandable to a degree. All you can hope for is that he's working his ass off (literally) to get back in shape.

And all indications are that he is doing just that.

there are multiple cardio options for people with achilles tears. swimming, rowing, armbikes. Diet adjustment should also have been obvious. This wouldn't happen to a true professional. Unfortunately the Bobcats have Diop instead.

Maybe it's different for a guy who's over 7 feet tall and over 275lb to begin with?

All I know is he's working now to get in shape. It's not like he's not pulling a Sean May

Diop doesn't really have a very good excuse. I'm a paraplegic and I can't sweat, so cardio is difficult for me and I still come up with workable alternatives. Swimming is optimal, using a stationary handcycle would work and I certainly follow a stupid strict diet. Gana had many options.

Pretty hard to come up with any excuses after reading this.

Heck it made me feel lazy.
