Getting Latos would've been awesome, but considering what the Reds gave up for him it might be scary to think what Toronto would've had to give up

What value do any of them have, Lind probably has negative value at this point Thames is a 4th OF who can't hit Leftys, Snider and Drabek couldn't have a lower value at this point and Cecil's main value is that he currently has a left arm. While you could get a major league player I'll give you that but at what position would you be able to get any kind of an upgrade?

I guess Grandal = D'Arnaud as far as what the Jays could have offered. I don't think the Jays have anyone has highly (over) rated as Alonso to sell at high value though. I don't know what SD envisions Alonso to become in that ballpark when he had a ISO below .190 in his minor league career. He was better off staying in Cincy in a much better hitting environment, but obviously that wasn't up to him. I think the Reds did well in this deal.

They got Colby Rasmus for a left-handed arm and some scraps last season. Cecil at least has as much value as Rzep had, as he could be a lefty specialist if they wanted him to be, but he's already had success as a starter so he has more upside.
Lind has had two terrible seasons after a monster season but is relatively cheap. Sounds like what the Jays gave up for our current second baseman, doesn't it?
Drabek was a mega prospect 8 months ago. He didn't have a major injury, he just hit a rough patch. Easily could regain significant value depending how he starts the season.
Thames has 6 seasons of control left and put up a 770 OPS in his rookie season as pretty much a full-time player in the AL East.
Snider has already had a lot of chances but he's 23 years old. A lot of teams would love to give him a shot. Not a highly valuable asset, but still an asset.
Again... not saying these are super-prospects or all-stars, but they're solid players with a lot of value. You don't just write off every single player that doesn't immediately meet the lofty expectations everybody had for them. To say they wouldn't be able to get an MLB regular for the whole lot of them is ridiculous. Although maybe it was just hyperbole, which would make more sense.

The Mets are in financial trouble and they're years away from contending
Drabek, Cecil, Lind, Snider, Thames for Wright and Jason Bay's horrible contract
I know that trade doesn't make perfect sense since the Jays already have Lawrie at 3B and the Mets have Ike Davis at 1B
But it's the type of quantity for quality deal that I'm talking about

Mets don't even consider that trade David Wright is worth way more than that. Even taking Bays terrible contract.

Bay is signed for 3 more seasons @ 16 million with a 3 million dollar buyout in the final year
Wright has 1 year left at 15 million plus a team option in 2013 worth 16 million
Mets would save 50 million or so over the next 2 seasons, which is a considerable amount of cash for a team that just took out a 40 million dollar loan
Let's not also forget that Wright is coming off a season in which he hit .254 with a .771 OPS in 102 games. So despite turning 29 in 2 days, his best years may be behind him

I'm willing to trade all of those guy.....except for Drabek. Not ready to give up on him yet, still young and obviously has good stuff.
As for Bay, his past makes me intrigued. But it's a big risk, prob too big. But he needs to leave NY asap.

I probably should've included EE instead of Lind for positional purposes
But the more I think about it, the more I think the Jays would be the ones to pass on this deal - and Drabek's inclusion (along with $$$) may be the reason why

Re: OT: Yonder to the Padres for Latos
Yeah I wouldn't do that trade with anything more than Lind by himself included. To me Bay's negative value >>> Wright's positive value (if he has it anymore) and Wright's positive value is totally negated by the fact we'd play him at 1B or maybe LF (or Lawrie, but that's not happening). That trade maybe works for somebody else (although it'd still only be for a single half decent player, not 4-5 guys unless they're pure nobodies), but it doesn't make any sense for the Jays. Why give away 5 functional, but unspectacular pieces, to pay those two 30 million a year?

Why was SD looking to move Latos again? He's as controllable as Romero
