Chiefs Post Game

Post#1 » by Mags FTW » Sun Dec 18, 2011 9:05 pm

Hopefully we just watched this year's version of the 2010 loss to the Lions.

There were some things which were unique to this game that we should't have to worry about in the playoffs:

1) Fired up team with a new coach opening up the playbook.
2) Missing Jennings, Bishop, Clifton, etc.
3) Drops (this may rear it's head again though)

And now the disturbing things we need to worry about looking ahead.

1, 2 & 3) The defense. How guys get wide open. The lack of pass rush. Today we saw what happens when we don't force turnovers.
4) Playcalling. After today we must ask ourselves how much of the offense is talent vs. McCarthy's playcalling. I have mentioned it before and others brought it up today, many of our plays seem to be boom or bust. It's either a 10+ yard completion, an incomplete pass, or a 2 yard run. We saw one quick slant and 1 (?) screen pass today. I almost fell out of my chair when we went wildcat which was nice to see, but why not do it on the third and one when we handed it off to Kuhn. Some of McCarthy's decisions are just mind boggling. And again, early in the 4th when we were in "no man's land/4 down territory" with a 3rd and long we try to get it all instead of trying to make the 4th down more manageable.

Now we need to win just to get home field...

My tickets for week 17 just became preseason tickets.

Our WRs had a hard time getting off the line against press and our protection was bad. Couple that with a shockingly inaccurate day from Rodgers and no TOs on defense, and it's surprising this was a one possession game.

Thankfully, outside of aesthetics, this loss doesn't mean a ton outside of the injuries. But I also think it shows we need Rodgers to be godly every game to win, and I have zero faith relying on the D in the playoffs should we need them to step up and win us a game.

And the fact we only gave up 19 today, don't buy it. We were shredded by a bad offense, and just got bailed out with some pretty poor play calling/execution in the red zone.

A blessing in disguise. We are really banged up right and now we don't have to even think about whether to rest guys. Yeah technically we don't have #1 wrapped up yet but we will. And we get healthy, the first playoff game isn't for a month.

The defense did what they've done all year outside of TOs. We lost because we couldn't score 20.

Probably the least effective Clay has been ever.

Rodgers was awful. Jordy looked like Jon Brockman. Defense was pathetic at the end. At least stack the box and give your QB a chance. Grant looked good. No idea why McCarthy didn't run more. Wait, yeah I do.

Lastly, why the chiefs? And why, f*cking why, Kyle Orton??

The primary things that worried me about this game:

1. Injuries.
2. Continued poor play of Finley. Would be nice to see him break out, doesn't look like it's going to happen though.

I think the defense played okay, but not great or anything. If we are holding a team to 19 points, we are going to win a majority of the time. In the end I feel like drops killed us. Every time we started to build up some momentum and get things going, there would be a drop that would kill the drive.

I thought MM's playcalling was fine. The thing that I put on him is that this team looked like they were sleepwalking out there. It's very rare the Packers don't come ready to play, but they weren't ready for this one.

We need to figure out how to play outdoors on slow tracks and with wind and weather.

Haul these same two teams over to a dome this afternoon and we win by 14.

If Rodgers and Braun are having spats at home they need to get it under control before the playoffs.

I don't think the Packers went into the game not wanting to win but it's hard to get up and play with a high level of intensity when you pretty much have home field locked up.

Combine that with the fact this was the Chiefs Super Bowl I'm not worried,in fact I'm almost relived we lost one.We can now rest guys and don't have the added pressure of going into the playoffs 16-0.

The PI penalties on Jordy were crap and the one on the onside really didn't matter.

Rodgers has to be 'godly' for us to win? We needed to put up 20 points and we couldn't. He didn't have to be Godly, he just had to have not the worst game of his career.

It is what it is though. Undefeated would have been cool, but I'm more worried about The Owl.

I agree. The 2nd PI in particular was ridiculous.
