Should the Eagles find another franchise QB?

Post#1 » by basic21 » Wed Nov 30, 2011 7:07 am

"Vick Expected To Miss Third Game"

Vick is a great QB, but he will never be able to play a full season, and has been criticized for losing a step at the end of the season and in the playoffs.

Can the Eagles ever win a championship with Vick as the QB and expect him to play +16 games in a season.

They thought having Vince Young as a backup would cover the 3-5 games per year that Vick misses. They thought wrong.

yea they also thought that moving their o-line coach to defense, and moving to a wide 9 technique with rookie/young lbs was a good idea so they thought wrong on a lot of things.

they also think that not giving the ball to one of the best backs in the league, even with a backup QB in, frustrated receivers and a struggling defense, is okay.

we need a franchise coach more than a franchise QB.

Yeah they should just sign a FA franchise QB since those grow on trees.

There is so much uncertainty with QB prospects that I find that it is almost always better to just draft a defensive player or OL or something and take more of a sure thing. The eagles are not really a QB away from being a contender.

I think that teams like them and the Colts need to target a guy like Tannehill in the second and let him develop for 2 years.

They don't have cap room for another big-ticket QB. They're paying Vick $100M for 6 years, or another $78M over the next four (the last is voidable). They're committed to and stuck with Mike Vick for at least the next three seasons. I suspect they will bring in someone proven better than Vince Young to be the #2, but almost anyone that has ever taken a snap in the NFL fits that bill.

Eagles can't afford to use a 1st or 2nd rounder on a QB with all the money they have tied into Vick and the holes at other positions. Their safeties and linebackers suck and should be the first priority in the draft, but knowing Reid they'll be looking for another undersized defensive lineman.

the problem is that this draft is so weak in every position, except for QB

Michael Vick is just fine. Just LAST season the guy had a crazy good year. He can't drop back down to earth a little bit? Could just be an off year, and the injury concerns for missing games could really go for any QB that scrambles/runs a lot, Vick's just been a bit unlucky with that. Really, he hasn't been terrible this season, he just didn't live up to those incredible expectations at all based on his performance last year.

The team has plenty of other problems to deal with before QB. Maybe in a year or two they can start worrying about that but IMO Vick will still be the franchise QB and will prove why next season.

Hate to say this but other than the first half of last season and the occasional season in ATL Mike Vick has been average-to-above average throughout most of his career.

There's not a lot of franchise quarterbacks sitting around. Vick is better than a lot of guys in the league. Better to keep him since it's going to be difficult to find someone better.

This times 1,000,000! They need a solid linebacker in the worst way either by trading the pick and something to get a very good LB or drafting one themselves. If we were to draft defensive linemen I like Nick Perry out of USC or Quinton Coples out of UNC. The guy I want to see The Eagles draft is Courtney Upshaw out of Alabama and that is coming from a Gator fan or I look to two of 'Bama's other very good prospects in Mark Barron as a strong safety or Dont'a Hightower as a inside linebacker either way I would look to one of those guys before drafting a QB cause Vick is owed a ton of money and like he's shown when healthy is a upper tier QB.

I have been one of the most notorious Vick Haters that you can ever imagine.

But I have to say, the way the eagles are set up / The way he is actually throwing the ball. I see such a big improvment and dont think that is the problem.

His problem is durability / He just does not seem to have that "it" factor for a final drive (he may probe me wrong).

I know people will look at the stats and think of how bad he has been playing, but I really do believe he has been unlucky this year (well I have only seen half).
