Im certified to teach it since I work with VZW but the best thing you can do is register for a free workshop: https://vzwworkshops.verizonwireless.com/vzwworkshops/Pharmcat wrote:rich

Or if you really want to become proficient in it, I know Nassau Community college offers courses in android. Seriously.
I love my iPhone personally because it definitely has a better battery life (if you turn off wifi it lasts me a full day despite very heavy data usage) but the Nexus would be my next choice. I finally got a chance to sit with it for a few minutes the other day and its pretty sick. Android is a great OS that I really enjoyed when I had my Droid Incredible. If they improve the battery, I'd switch back in a heartbeat.

Re: OT: Which Smartphone should I buy?
Alright, I went to go check out some at the store and talked to a cousin of mine who knows about these smartphones.
Here are my 4 options I broke it down too, if someone can help me with the questions I have about them, that would be fantastic.
1
-He said I should by the Samsung Galaxy S2 (the Skyrocket one since it is the newer one).
* This is what I am thinking of doing so far.
2
-At the store I went to, I could have bought the Infusion for 20 bucks if I signed a 2 year contract. How does the Infusion compare with the Galaxy S2?
* This one was compelling since it was so cheap and looked pretty good. Screen was nice and big.
3
-The Galaxy Nexus is not for AT&T right?
* Galaxy Nexus is better from what I heard, but it is not for AT&T right?
4
-I am tempted to buy a Windows phone. If I buy a Windows phone right now, will it be compatible with Windows 8 once released? Or will I have to buy a new phone to get Windows 8?
-- My cousin said it is not worth buying a Windows phone right now, wait till Windows 8 is released. However, I am pretty sure I remember someone on this thread saying Windows phones will be compatible with Windows 8 in the future.
* If I can buy a good Windows phone right now and it will work with Windows 8 in the future, I will defiantly want to do this.
Any phones similar to the ones stated above, but with a qwerty keyboard addition (everything else pretty much the same)?

Re: OT: Which Smartphone should I buy?
Im in a similar situation as well, and i had a tough time between the nexus and the rezound, but ive decided to get the nexus.
Amazon wireless has a 2 year renewal for a lot cheaper since my contract is up..is it good to renew through amazon instead of going to a verizon store? I'd really like to save some money, but im a bit leery about amazon, since ive never bought or renewed a phone contract with them. Would you guys recommend it?

The phones being compared are old but the OS comparisons still hold weight: http://www.popularmechanics.com/technol ... ing_system
http://www.geek.com/smartphone-buyers-g ... ng-system/
Personally, Apple seems to be the most sturdy OS but Google is a ton of fun as well and if youre tech savvy or want to become tech savvy you can do a lot and learn a lot with Android. Not a fan of windows. If you have a Windows PC that ever had problems, you would know exactly why. Blackberry compresses files so your internet browser will be slow and your app selection limited. And Palm...next.

First off, hit the Android market and download an anti-virus app. Lookout is a solid one for free. Download it and you can turn off the notifications so it doesn't appear at the top of your phone. If you're willing to spend, I hear AVG is a good paid app for $0.99.
Once you've done that, hit the settings menu and adjust it to your liking.
Then the fun part begins...customize your menus with widgets and apps. You could find more apps as well as widgets on the Android market. This took me a month to get it perfectly for me since I rearranged my menus countless times before getting it right. It could take you a day or even longer than me. When you're done adjusting your menus, I'll recommend you a healthy list of apps both on and off the Android market.

I would go with Galaxy Nexus.
No love for the Windows Phone? Nokia got Lumia coming out soon for US market also. Not like I could care less about a Windows Phone

Amazon is legit. A lot of people buy through Amazon. They have good delivery and service. Many people brought the amazon 1 cent black Friday phone special on all android devices(2 year upgrade or new cust)

You may want to wait a little as the nexus is expected to hit all carriers at some point. You can even get Int'l Galaxy Nexus but I believe that will only do AT&T edge(not even 3g). You won't get discount for int'l version.
---edit. nexus Int'l can do AT&T 3g. I'd still wait for the Nexus official for AT&T, should be 4g, if you're set on keeping your carrier.
Windows, I can't see myself supporting. Not only for my dislike of the brand itself, but the lack of developer support. Android and Apple both equally have top level developer support, while bb and windows trails them both significantly.
THE OS can be bananas, but if developers don't build apps then it's just really a dumb phone at that point.

Virus security on Android may be overblown.

Also, If the Galaxy nexus doesn't have Swype preinstalled, you can go to swype's website and get the beat version.

Precisely why I don't pay for anti-virus. I hear Android is higher up in malware howevver.

Same here. Also, who are reporting the malware, likely the same companies that are pushing the security products. Not saying Android is immune to malware, just saying Google has done a great job in sandboxing the environment.
Lookout mobile may be nice though since it will assist in finding a lost or stolen phone.

Great catch. I figured swype would've been up on their game and fixed it prior to launch. The SDK been out for a while.

I apologize as it's tough for me to be objective here,as I'm not really a fan of Microsoft or Nokia.
Having said that, I'd also like to confirm that I haven't even bothered to research the device because of my bias. I naturally assume I wouldn't like it.
So, I just did some brief research of the device. Not a fan of the colored back. Doesn't say it will support NFC, or 4gLTE, and has only an amoled display. Granted Samsung owns and is the sole producer of the mroe advanced super amoled plus displays, this is understandable to not have the latest.
Amoled by itself is very old generation. Most phones try to at least get Super Amoled in these days. If you're buying a Samsung device though, you usually get the latest in Super Amoled technology; Super Amoled Plus and Super AMOLED HD.
Also resolution of 800 x 480. Not an HD display. other specs I guess are fine, but then you are also hoping developers start supporting Windows Mobile OS in mass numbers. Otherwise great apps may far and few between.

Re: OT: Which Smartphone should I buy?
Has anyone ever tried out the Samsung Focus S.
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Focus-4G-Windows-Phone/dp/B0061QRIFW
I tried it out at the store, and it was pretty good.
It was 200 dollars and that was with the 2 year contract. I could get the Samsung Focus Flash, which is just a smaller version of this one and it is practically free with a 2 year contract.
I kind of want to stick with Windows.
Anyway, here is my main question. This is considered a Windows 7 phone. In the future, will this phone be compatible with Windows 8? Like, where there be an update for this phone from W7 to W8 so I can use W8 features on this?
