Players and Fans Team up at Scrimmage

Both teams went back and forth for most of the afternoon with Foye nailing a long 3-pointer in the final seconds to tie the score at 32. Following a brief deliberation with his players and plenty of encouragement from the crowd, Clippers Head Coach Vinny Del Negro elected to play a one-minute overtime period.

“I like our focus right now, our disposition,” [Del Negro] said. “We know as a team we have a lot of work to do on a daily basis. Today was basically our second practice and there are a lot of things we need to sew up quickly and you’ll see steady improvement throughout the year as we move forward here with this group.”

The team certainly showed flashes during the scrimmage. Paul made plays for his teammates. Butler seemed to find a rhythm, scoring on jumpers from the corner and the mid-post. And Thompkins, a 6-foot-10 rookie from Georgia, was outstanding, making shots from inside and outside for nine points, including a 3-pointer from the wing, and four rebounds.

Clipper Fans Delight in Open Scrimmage

Ralph Lawler introduced the team before handing the microphone to Chris Paul, and the chants of “CP3!” that are sure to be a Staples Center staple echoed throughout Galen Center.

Chauncey Billups, on the team for less than a week, received a rousing ovation of his own when introduced to the crowd. He’s been on lottery teams, playoff teams and championship teams, so he knows a good vibe when he feels it.

“It's good to feel welcome, to feel wanted,” Billups said. “It's obviously a new feeling around here in ClipperLand. We're not just trying to make the playoffs, we're trying to advance and do the whole thing. Expectations are different.”

Here's a couple more good ones. Hopefully, everyone will get all the rust off in time for Christmas; Also, when it comes down to real games, unless we're ahead by 15 or 20 points, I hope Blake finishes his lobs without trying to show off too much. He was missing some lobs today because he was trying to get too fancy with his finishes (i.e. Reverse slams, 360's, etc).
