Darrell Arthur out: Time to go get Mayo?

Post#1 » by PeeDee » Mon Dec 19, 2011 1:44 pm

With Darrel Arthur out for the year, I think it would make sense to approach Memphis with some of our PF depth for Mayo.

Tolliver?
Randolph?

I'd love to give them Randolph because it would mean that we'd mitigate the need to resign Love, Randolph, Beasley and Mayo all in one offseason.

Randolph and their pick back for Mayo? Would they bite? Would you?

I would offer Randolph + Mem 1st returned. Not more.

Memphis has probably tried to ship Mayo out for less in the past.

I'd try to lowball them a bit, but yeah, I'd probably do that trade.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

Then the Wolves are free to trade Ridnour and perhaps Wes/Webster.

Not to derail the topic, but what is Memphis' current SG depth chart look like?

I personally would prefer adding Sam Young to the Twolves. He's more of a combo 2-3 than a straight 2, but from what I've seen of him, he is a very good defender and a solid shooter with a high motor - and perhaps a little undervalued by Memphis? I think I'd prefer him to Mayo.

After I asked the question, I found this one - not sure how accurate it is as its more of a fantasy basketball article, but says Allen, Mayo, Pargo, Henry at SG with Gay backed up by Young at SF.

Yes please!
I agree with that Randolph+1st

Rubio(5)+Mayo(3)+Beasley(2)+Derrick(2)+Love(5)

All of them Top 5 picks, and the older is Mayo with 24!!! Tons of talent...

I'd offer Anthony Randolph or Tolliver + MEM pick back

I also would add that I don't think Mayo is a great fit here (size, next contract), but I think he's a more valuable trade piece than what we would give up. Maybe he'd open a few more doors.

Beware CHI, that may offer Asik + CHI late 1st.

Great timing, Peedee!

Indiana and Memphis had a trade a few days ago that was falsely reported as being completed, so it must have been pretty close to being finished. That trade was Josh McRoberts and Brandon Rush. Last year a trade fell apart and both teams missed the deadline, the rumored trade was McRoberts and a 2011 first round pick.

I'm not too enthusastic about Mayo, but Randolph and a return of their pick isn't too much to offer. I believe Indiana's offer was better, but McRoberts now plays with the Lakers.

Wallace is forced to intensify efforts to bolster the frontcourt with Arthur out at least for the start of the season.

The question becomes: How does Wallace intend to fill the void?

Will the Griz reverse their position on guard O.J. Mayo and now make him available in a trade for a big man? Will the Griz use all of their $5 million mid-level exception to sign a veteran free agent and possibly exceed the luxury-tax threshold?

Wallace had trade conversations involving Mayo last week when Indiana proposed sending guard Brandon Rush and forward Josh McRoberts in a sign-and-trade deal. The Griz declined that trade offer for Mayo and McRoberts later signed a free-agent contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.

If we took on Mayo and Tony Allen (2 yrs at $3 mil) for Randolph and Ellington, (we have to generate some cap space first) that would clear about $4.5 mil from MEM's payroll, and allow them to finally be able to use their $5 mil MLE.

That wouldn't be enough to get Dalembert, but I bet they could add Kirilenko for that, if they acted fast.

Tony Allen is like the best perimeter defender in the game. There's no chance they do that.

You're right, Magic Randolph is much better. Let's play him at SG.

As opposed to Anthony Randolph? This seems like a big overreaction to the proposed trade.

I know its only been 1 game, but Randolph looks to still have a long ways to go. His name however, still holds much more cache in the league than a Tolliver. I want to keep Tolliver for the long haul. He will accept any role he is given and when he is on the court, he will play smart, is a tough defender, and plays a great team game.

I would offer Randolph - Mayo straight up first, but then sweeten it with Ellington (I want to keep a pick for next years draft). I still may prefer to go after Iggy somehow.

Darko - Tolliver
Love - Williams
Beasley - Williams
Mayo - Wes
Rubio - JJ

That bench has a ton versatility.

I think I read that Xavier Henry is injured and out for while too. That would leave them thin at SG too. They're probably up against the cap and need to move someone to add someone though. AR and Ellington for Mayo would work salarywise and is pretty fair in value.
