Report says Henry set for Arsenal loan

NOT NORMALLY known for making outlandish claims, The Times reports that Thierry Henry is set to "make a surprise return" to Arsenal, nearly five years after walking out on the Gunners for Barcelona. The 34-year-old French striker scored a club record 174 goals in 254 appearances during his eight glorious years in north London, and, according to the Times, Henry is ready to resume his goal-scoring feats next month.

It's been an open secret that Henry has been training with the Arsenal squad in recent weeks as he keeps himself in shape ahead of the resumption of the Major League Soccer season in March. Henry plays for the New York Red Bulls and The Times says that with Arsenal strikers Marouane Chamakh and Gervinho both involved in next month's Africa Cup of Nations, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will strike a deal with the Bulls.

from watching him play this season in mls, i'd say he's more of an attacking mid than a forward

The only position he could play in our formation would be centre forward in place of RVP. Rely on intelligent positioning and finishing.

Santos won't back for till March though, but I'm hoping are squad looks better by the end of january.

oh yeah, i keep forgetting to watch that. thanks

so, my soccer team had a party last night for some team bonding to try to stop our 2 game losing streak and of course, another forward is a spurs fan. so he was all happy about how they won and we could only manage a draw.

It's a cool documentary. Fitting now with his possible return to the club, newspapers today reporting he's been offered a two month loan deal.

Still not sure how I feel about the idea. If he's crap it'll be hard to watch. And, if he's good it'll be hard to watch him go back to NYC after two months. Would rather just sign someone good as a permanent replacement.

What number would he wear anyway?

Doubt they actually buy one. Vermaelen does pretty well at left back. Gives Arsene an excuse to play Koscielny too.

Edit: When are they getting Sagna back? That's much more important, i think.

Late January, I think, for Sagna. But Santos is pretty much done for the year, and Gibbs is never healthy. If one of our CB's goes down we're f'ed. Loan is probably more likely than buying one, unless there's a bargain available. Striker and LW are still priority though.

I like Miquel. He's probably better suited to playing at center back, but he looked like he could do a job there if necessary.

About the striker thing, i've noticed commentators and Arsenal fans say it's a need, but is it really? I'm no fan of Chamakh but it seems like Wenger never fields two up front in competitive games. It's always a last gasp measure in search of a late goal. So if you get a better player than him, don't you think it might end up becoming a bit of a problem?

Edit: Looks like the Henry loan is a go. I guess that addresses both needs at least temporarily.
