Anthopoulos: Don't have a whole lot to say today. We don't comment on what Fas we're in on, if we made offers or not. #bluejays #jays

Wilnerness590 Mike Wilner
AA: Won't confirm whether I made a bid or didn't make a bid just like I wouldn't confirm if I made an offer on a free agent. #bluejays #jays

Wilnerness590 Mike Wilner
AA: My focus hasn't changed since Dallas. I've been aggressive on the trade market. No signings or postings have changed our game plan.

Wilnerness590 Mike Wilner
AA: We need to add a lot of things - the bullpen, we'd like to improve the rotation if we can.....we'd love to add a bat as well.

It has started, Wilner's been quoting from it on Twitter. I just don't think it's being broadcast.

It's a conference call with the media, not on fan590.

AA: I wont confirm if I did, or didn't make a bid, the same way I wouldn't confirm if I make an offer..."

Same old company line.

No, it's simply not in the team's best interest to admit to whether they bid or how much they bid. They don't want that information getting out to other teams or agents considering they still have an offseason to conduct. They have bigger things to worry about then being concerned about a bunch of fans who were duped by Twitter rumors.

Thats ridiculous JP would comment on everything, AA comments on nothing. So I can clearly see that this is a Rogers policy at work here. We get it your pissed but at least think about what your writing before you post it.

It is indeed the same old company line.
Unfortunately for the Blue Jays and general manager Alex Anthopoulos – who in a Tuesday morning conference call with reporters refused to confirm that the team made a bid - pulling their fan base back from the edge of the precipice won’t be easy. The Blue Jays have done a poor job of managing expectations this off-season and anybody who says that isn’t part of the game in the age of social media hasn’t been paying attention. There has been a marked shift to the negative in the dialogue surrounding the team since Anthopoulos dampened enthusiasm at the winter meetings by talking about “payroll parameters,” by essentially twinning the rise in payroll with an increase in revenue and leaving no doubt that revenue comes first.

I was referring to the comment about AA not confirming or denying the bid but sure bring up a completely different point that works.

this is without doubt the most infuriating thing about this whole "rebuilding" plan. they are doing some very positive things with building the farm system and trimming the team of burdensome contracts. on the other hand, rebuilding implies that at some point they're going to take a few risks and actually spend some money in the hopes of improving the club. but i'm dubious of this, as the attitude seems to indicate that fans have turned their back on the team, so why bother spending.

it's sad. 18 years of meaningless baseball due to poor front office decisions, and they want to blame us for losing interest.

Alex fully explaining the rationale for his tight-lipped style, in a way that may undercut its purpose. Doesn't want to "tip his hand" regarding presence or absence of budgetary constraints or whether he even made a bid on Darvish. He's used that type of info against teams in negotiations, and it's been used against the Jays in the past.

But, to be consistent with the rationale, I wouldn't have even gone that far. A simple "no comment" would have sufficed. Now Boras or whoever can just say, "I know you're pretending not to have the money, but we both know you do."
