Honestly, I can't even decide on who to vote for in the poll.

Re: Official Raptors 2012 NBA Draft Thread, Part 3
MKG to me is a about the same as Andre Iguodala. He's a complimentary guy to a #1 player. I think he's going to be very good but he'll never be able to carry a franchise.
In this draft, I think that only PJ3 has the ability to carry the franchise. The other top guys- MKG, Lamb, Davis, Barnes; they're all complimentary pieces.
Drummond maybe can be that guy, but not consistently at this point.
For that reason PJ3 is my top choice.

Either way, thus far it looks like a top 6 - 8 picks gets you an excellent prospect with little variation from 1-8.
This.
I think anyone expecting to get a true franchise player in this draft is going to be a bit disapointed regardless of where we end up.
But the bright side is if we draft smart, regardless where we end up in the top 10 or so, we should come away with another very good player going forward.
All the discussion about Gilchrist, the thing that impresses me most about him is his best games have been against the stronger competition, such as NC and Indiana.
His numbers look good but it's not merely just a result of padding against the early season lesser competition, he really seems to raise his game a notch against the better teams.
That is the kind of guy i'd be thrilled to get out of this draft.

yea same here. PJ3 is top choice if the ADs are gone. Drummond has that star potential if he pans out. PJ3 has the poor man's lebron potential where he can pass, create for himself and exploit the size matchup. But I think Davis has the defensive game changing potential too though.

The only real knock Ive had with MKG is that he has generally shown a little too much respect. Hes always been the youngest player on the court, so he has never really ever forced the issue on offense. He seems to be the silent type of leader that will make people follow through his actions. He will grow into the role of team leader on an NBA team.
I wouldnt even hesitate to take him one anymore with the way Drummond has looked so far. I still see a star in the making.
He is a difference maker that could step in right now and hold his own in the NBA defensively. His shooting and offence will blossom at the pro level.

Re: Official Raptors 2012 NBA Draft Thread, Part 3
Although Michael Kidd-Gilchrist doesn't have the offensive skillset at this point to become a superstar potential player, I think he's got a great foundation to build his offense into a legit All-Star in the mold of a Rudy Gay. He's already an elite defender averaging over a block and a steal per game, and excellent defensive awareness; rarely do you see him get pulled out of the game by John Calipari for blown defensive assignments, to go along with an above-average offensive skillset. His shooting and shot-creating off the dribble still needs some work, but I feel like his court vision and passing, ball-handling, ability to get to the hoop within one or two dribbles because of his long strides, very explosive getting to the hoop off the ground and can finish through contact displaying superb body control is a great base to work your offense from the ground up. He's shooting 37% on near 2 attempts on 3-pt shots, so it's not like he can't shoot from downtown. Outside of the shooting, he's very similar to Rudy Gay/Andre Iguodala imo.

I do like him but still not as our 1st pick. He has all the great intangibles which is hard not to love but he's just not that dynamic. The Raptors need a franchise player more then anything ie/ they need a Jordan not a Pippen (as Kidd is being likened to at the height of his potential). To me he still reminds me of Tony Allen with more offensive skills which is a great guy to have in the locker room but not THE guy.
Pretty much what I had in mind when I asked my question.
Everyone keeps responding with fit, hard work, etc. I love MKG, but until he shows he can be a top dog...

Also I keep hearing PJ3 coming into the NBA to play as a 3. Doesn't seem like he's got the lateral quickness to guards 3s, and his ball-handling and perimeter skills are great for a 4, but for a 3 probably sub par. I don't know what to make of it, but all I know is Derrick Williams was suppose to come and play 3 in the NBA and he's back to PF.

So far to me the only person from this draft who has shown to be franchise type is Anthony Davis.
Drummond - project with the body
I just want to stay away from Harrison Barnes as far as possible.

I don't see any player being the type of prospect your looking for. Even PJ3 looks like Bargnani offensively, he can shoot over people due to his hight, and has above average handles for the 4 position, when you compare him to the 3 position he's less impressive. The only guy that looks like he could be something special based on physical attributes is Drummond but I wouldn't bet on it. He would need a killer second half of the season, in order to gather enough attention for him to be palatable for tank nation. (For what its worth I voted for him) He seems like the player we need, but I don't think our fan base is ready for another 5 year project.

Kidd-Gilchrist practically carried the Wildcats against the Tar Heels and Hoosiers, two of Kentucky's toughest opponent thus far, so I'd say he's definitely shown to be a top dog. Terrence Jones who is suppose to be Kentucky's unquestionable leader had his disappearing act in the 2nd half against UNC and was no where to be found against Indiana. Same thing with Marquis Teague; at least he helped Kentucky during the last couple of minutes against Indiana. If that doesn't show Kidd-Gilchrist's ability to step up his game to another level when his team needs him most to be top dog all a while against tougher competition, I don't know what does.

I'm starting to be in the camp that believes there isn't really a franchise guy in this draft. Lamb was looking like one,but even he's tailed off. MKG might have a better chance than some are giving him credit for, I mean look what he's done so far as freshman, I mean by the end of the season he could definitely be looking like a star. Definitely not a Lebron, but I could see him being a pippen or pierce type though with a different sort of game. And remember, while he might not be MJ, pippen is still a top 50 player o all time...

Re: Official Raptors 2012 NBA Draft Thread, Part 3
Off topic. MKG and Val are going to be fantasy bball beast. Val most likely round out 11 pts+, 9-10 reb, 1 blk, good FG% and FT%. MKG prolly in the 15-17 pts, 5-7 reb, 1 stl and prolly 1 blk (iggy stat) ...damn, even this draft has alot of nice fantasy stud in Anthony Davis and Beal.

Considering I am one of the guys that loved Barnes and moved on to Gilchrist I will comment...
Outside of AD and AD who would you pick above Kidd ?
Perry Jones looks really nice this year but I am not sure where the SF stuff is coming from, all last year he was considered a PF and draft express still has him down as a PF going forward.
Lamb is nice, but is he really that much better than anyone else in the draft or Derozan? Do not see him playing any position other than SG. Which is fine but if your drafting a sg then Derozan must go.
Sullinger is a beast in College, but again a PF...
Beal could be a really nice SG see lamb.
Miller could be a phenom if he gets 100% healthy, and that is assuming he is at like 75% now. If he doesn't get much quicker with returned health his stock is lower.
Barnes was supposed to be the all round beast this year but his handle has not improved enough to justify that.
So outside of AD1 and AD2 Kidd to me is the guy.
As for pippen, people see to forget that without MJ pippen still lead the bulls to 55 wins and was a beast.
Right now I have Kidd 3rd on my big board and if he continues to improve his offense he could pass Drummond
