Lebron James cash midrange

How exciting is it, I can't be the only one to notice. But off the dribble, off the spot up, out of the post, his mid range finds its way into the hoop and it's cash!!!

That was a terrible shot take early in the shot clock, I was mad that he shot that haha. But I'd still say he's 5/6 from mid range, and was money in the first game as well.

Posted this in the last game thread. It's Lebron's pre/post all star mid range shooting splits. After the break, he was shooting about 55% from mid-range (10-23 feet)

10-15 feet
Pre: 0.59 FG/1.52 FGA, good for 39.0%
Post: 0.92 FG/1.64 FGA, good for 56.1%

16-23 feet
Pre: 2.15 FG/5.37 FGA, good for 40.0%
Post: 2.92 FG/5.36 FGA, good for 54.5%

Do those numbers include the playoffs?

It felt like he was hitting jumpers all the way up until Dallas.

The only thing I don't like is when he takes those really long two point shots. Its just an inefficient shot and he can get it any time he wants. No reason to settle for it.

Nope, not including playoffs.

Off the top of my head though, he was around 55% against Philly, then dropped down to the low 40s against Boston and Chicago (which is expected, given they were the top two defenses in the league), and then he fell below 35% against Dallas

Actually no I meant exactly what he answered.

Edit- And it seemed like he was hitting a lot of jumpers against the Bulls (off of my bad memory) but that could have just been because he was hitting a bunch of 3s at the end of games which wouldn't count in these percentages.

Against Chicago, he was shooting 38.9% from 16-23 feet (14 of 36), and 50% from 10-15 feet (only 3 of 6 overall).

But yeah, off memory it seemed like he was on fire in that series; I think it's notable that he was shooting poorly in the first 3 quarters and then shooting lights out in the fourth quarters (goes for the series against us as well). The late game dominance usually stays more prominently etched in our heads and for that reason, in this case, it makes us remember his shooting as much better than it really was.

That was exactly my thinking. That's also why I don't believe in "clutch" or give players credit for being so. Usually when a great player "comes through in the clutch" more often than not their bad shooting earlier in the game is what made the game close in the first place.

I think shooting is way more random than people think at the NBA level where even the bad shooters have taken thousands of shots in their lives.

I hate when people try to fit narratives into shooting (eg "His elbow hurt in those three games he shot poorly" or "He was feeling confident in the second half when he shot well")

He has mostly initiated his offense from 21 feet and inside in these 2 preseason games, and he should stick to it. As soon as he switched to bringing the ball up or tried to create from behind the 3pt line, his lack of agility got exposed. LeBron's mainly a triple-threat player today - someone who gets the ball on standstill, takes a hard dribble or 2 and shoots. That's by far his biggest strength. The coaching staff should NEVER allow him to bring the ball up or be the team's primary creator outside of 23 feet. He just doesn't have the athleticism to get much going in those situations. That's what cost Miami Game 2 of the NBA Finals.

Lebron was 7-13 tonight from midrange after going 5-9 in the first preseason game - his shot has looked ridiculously good so far, I wouldn't be surprised if he surpassed his midrange numbers from last year (his FT form looks horrible though, I have no idea how he managed to go 9-12 with such an ugly shot). He looks noticeably more skilled this year than ever before. The problem is that I haven't seen a single successful drive to the hoop from him in the first two games - when he looks to score, it's going to be a midrange jumper. He does look a little thinner and bouncier to me this season than last, he's getting good space for his jumpers, but he's still noticeably missing the explosiveness that he had in Cleveland.

What are you guys talking about, his mid-range in game and in both games has been great. Lol you guys are thinking of the airballs and thinking that he shot terrible. He would of shot clearly over 50% and in the first game about 60% from mid.

I like that he's playing 20 feet and in. He isn't even looking at the 3 point line. If he keeps that up he's going to destroy the NBA this year.

I wonder at what point he'll start being called one of the best shooters in the game? I think he was only second to Dirk last year in midrange shooting percentage of players who shot over x number of shots.

Yes he was. In the second half of the season, he was actually ahead of Dirk in shooting percentages from mid range, though he still had lower volume

Maybe that's because those were preseason games and he didn't wanna risk an injury? Wade wasn't exactly attacking either. While LeBron's jump shot out of a post-up situation has developed beautifully, he still interrupted ball movement too often. He has to understand that by swining the rock around, he'll have a chance at a much better shot himself. If it's a post-up situation and he wants to get set first, I'm fine with him holding onto the ball and getting ready to attack but there were a couple of occassions where he would just hold onto it on the perimeter and just not do anything. This Cleveland syndrome needs to stop.

Yeah the main thing I would tell Lebron every time is he needs to make quick decisions. He needs to be attacking always. Otherwise it slows up our offense.

He tried to drive to the hoop multiple times though, and didn't get a single shot out of it (though he did get fouled a few times). Wade drove to the hoop and finished three times last night, and overall it definitely felt like he was attacking to me. I also disagree that Lebron holds the ball too much in the post - if anything, he's too quick to move the ball on. Any hint of a double team and he gets rid of the ball, I'd like to see him be more aggressive in the post looking to score.
