Best 5-Man Unit?

Post#1 » by Klomp » Thu Dec 22, 2011 5:41 am

What will be our best lineup this year?

Last year, in terms of +/-, our best lineups were Ridnour-Johnson-Brewer-Love-Milicic and Flynn-Webster-Brewer-Beasley-Love (both +17)

How many floor minutes did that second 5 man see? Cause I am not guessing a lot since that seems like an odd combination, and there is no way that Flynn should be in any best lineup.

My guess is

Love
Williams (or Tolliver)
Beasley
JJ
Rubio

As long as Darko takes his rightful place as the go-to post option.

In +/- it'll probably be Rubio/Barea/Beasley/Williams/Love, but best all round will likely be the one Devilz put up.

Rubio/Barea/Beasley/Williams/Love finish games with Ridnour subbing in for shooting and Lee/Wes/AT/Darko for spot D if they can make situational changes.

It's most definitely, imho:

Rubio / JJ / Beasley / Tolliver / Love

The Rube
JJB ... Malcolm in the middle, Luck Luke, Ellington
Guards --> O & D combos, Lee & JJB look solid.

Beas ... Wes
Love ... DW, AT
Forwards --> Good change of pace & matchup opportunities with all 5

Dark ... Pek
Centers --> Big Sturdy and bring different skills, AR far behind

Summary = 2 solid PG's, 2 adequate SG's, 5 solid forwards, 2 adequate C's. Defensively, the addition of Lee and Love's improvement shown in the pre-season is huge are big deals. Decent depth.

Questions?
Can the Rube put up a consistent 3:1 (assist:TO)? ... potential game changer for offensive efficiency
How will Lee and DW hold to NBA? ... always a new culture for rookies
Will Beas mature and round his game? ... still lots of question marks
Can we rely on the Goons inside? ... The Rube may help offensivly, but defense is a must inside

Malcolm Lee is starting to make me a believer...if he can shoot at a decent 3pt pct I would probably guess our best lineup would be Rubio/Lee/WJohnson/Love/Darko or maybe Rubio/Lee/WJohnson/Williams/Love

Berea, Lee, Johnson, Tolliver, Love

I can't for the life of me imagine a lineup with Beasley, Darko or Ridnour leading our team in +/-

If Wes would goto the basket more I'd be in that camp over Beas - peiod ... right now I think Beas will get one more opportunity with Adelman. The Rube and JJB will have the ball in their hands a lot, and that may make or break Beas ... he will need to get much more involved in the offense versus holding the ball and relying on his "self-proclaimed" ISO abilities.

Barea, Rubio, Beasley, Williams, Love

They won't play that unit against Dwight

In preseason game one I think they ran for a little bit with

Barea
Ellington
Beasley
Williams
Love

and while this lineup won't see a ton of time, it's terrifyingly offensively potent. Every single player is deadly from behind the arc, Barea, Beasley and Williams are all playmakers and Barea is a canny veteran PG.

It's not a great defensive lineup, but if they need to come from behind this (or a variation with Wes at the SG) is the way to go.

2nd unit: Barea, Johnson, Webster,Tolliver, Darko.

11th and 12th: Ellington, Pekovic.

13th: Miller.

Trade: AR, Ridnour.

I'd say lineup of Rubio Barea Beasley Williams and Love would probably be our best offensive lineup, but what do I know

I know it was just preseason, but Beasley led the team in +/-

I think its:
Rubio/Lee/Beasley/Love/Darko

Honestly, with the inherent unbalance of the roster, I don't even think this conversation is relevant.

We will have a different best 5-man unit almost every game and it probably won't even be that much better than the other units. I'd say that Love and Beasley would be omnipresent in most of them. I would include Rubio, but I worry about his defense at the 1. Adelman hasn't even had him defend there yet.

I think I'd have to go with this one as well. It's not the best defensive unit but pretty much all of the lineups are questionable defensively anyway.
