Most will say its obviously Wall vs Dwill but I think thats too easy and they could cancel eachother out. Some wouldve said McGee vs Lopez and maybe still even McGee vs Okur but I like the Dray-Hump matchup better. They have a nice contrast in style and most probably would want Hump on our team over Dray but I have faith in my boy to put in that work this year. I believe the winner of this matchup will win the game and I think 7-Day will get off on the right foot.

Preview

The Washington Wizards and the New Jersey Nets haven't come close to the playoffs in recent years.

That may not change this season, but the clubs are looking for improvement around dazzling point guards.

John Wall matches up with Deron Williams and tries to get the Wizards off to a strong start as they look to continue their recent success against the Nets on Monday night.

Washington went 23-59 last season to finish at the bottom of the Southeast Division for a third straight time.

New Jersey has endured a similar fortune, missing the playoffs in four consecutive seasons after going 24-58 in 2010-11.

While getting to the postseason would be considered a great achievement for either club, both teams appear to have long-term plans for success.

For the Wizards, that centers on Wall, the top pick out of Kentucky in the 2010 draft.

Wall averaged 16.4 points, 8.3 assists -- tied for sixth in the NBA -- and 4.6 rebounds, finishing second to Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers in voting for Rookie of the Year.

He spent the lockout working on his shooting since he made 40.9 percent from the floor and 29.6 from 3-point range. He's also trying to cut down on turnovers after averaging the second-most in the NBA at 3.8.

"I always try to be perfect, but you can't be," Wall said. "When we started losing a couple of games in a row, and how we were playing in stretches of games, I was getting frustrated. I knew we could play with those teams, with the talent we have, but just not being mature enough -- and turning the ball over and taking bad shots -- really hurt us."

Swingman Nick Young and big man Andray Blatche are back to help Wall.

Young led Washington with 17.4 points per game but was limited to 64 games while battling knee and ankle injuries.

Blatche averaged career highs of 16.8 points and 8.2 boards, but he also struggled with hip and shoulder injuries. His season also included a one-game suspension, along with center JaVale McGee, after the two were involved in an altercation outside of a Washington nightclub.

"Whatever we do, we've got to change this whole atmosphere from losing, and people used to us losing, to winning," Blatche said.

The Wizards have won seven of eight against New Jersey, including all four meetings in the nation's capital during that stretch. That includes a 26-point performance from Wall in a 98-92 victory March 20.

The Nets are entering their final season in New Jersey before moving to Brooklyn, and it's unclear if Williams will be going with them since he's beginning the final season of his contract.

He averaged 15.0 points and 12.8 assists while a wrist injury limited him to 12 games with the Nets last season after being acquired in a trade from Utah.

Overall, the two-time All-Star averaged a career-high 20.1 points and 10.3 assists.

It's unclear if his clouded status for next season is making him uncomfortable in New Jersey, which already has lost center Brook Lopez for at least six weeks due to a broken right foot.

Lopez led the Nets with 20.4 points per game in 2010-11.

"It's our team," Williams said. "Whether I am comfortable or not, it's our team. We've got good guys, guys who know how to play basketball and make plays. That's all we need as long as our defense is locked in."

Kris Humphries returned to the Nets after signing a one-year contract Wednesday and enduring an eventful offseason. The forward, who averaged career highs of 10.0 points and 10.4 rebounds last season, married reality TV star Kim Kardashian, and 72 days later the couple split up.

Lopez's injury could mean an increased onus on Humphries, as rumblings for a deal involving Orlando center Dwight Howard have quieted.

"I know they will play hard," coach Avery Johnson said. "When you have a team with Deron Williams as the point guard he will do a good job of quarterbacking the team."

Predection

To me this is like a must win. There best player will be matched up with our best player and then I think we have the better of any other matchup on the floor, espically now with Lopez being out.

Its also a home game and I think Williams might take a few games to adjust back to the NBA game just like he took a few games to adjust to the Euro style. Hopefully Flip is smart enough to start NY and we get things going from the jump. I think we will do alot better this year than most do so we'll see.

We should win this game if we are going to be as good as I think we can be. Start off 1-0 and dont look back. Im still not sold like everyone else is in NY starting. I beleive the great brain of Flip could put him on the bench. Either way, I like us 104-91 and Dray starts off with 24 & 12 to show he is a new dude

i would like to see Dray be more aggressive too. That doesnt mean shoot more but just play more faster, harder, and assertive. He's much better like that. Right now he just is playing real cool and nonchalant. I hate watching that. You cant dominate a game that way. He needs to play with more passion

It's about time for some real basketball. Look forward to start posting on the old board again, its been quite awhile for me, I look forward to the always entertaining rants and raves. Lots of new faces (so to say) I see on here, should make for good conversation. Cheers to our boys, maybe they'll show some unexpected promise this season; preseason certainly didn't give much hope, but hey I'll show some positivity and say "It was just preseason."

As for the game we should have a pretty good oppurtunity to get a W here. It'll be interesting to see how Wall matches up against Deron. All I really can hope for in this game is some solid defense and hopefully some better ball movement than the atrocious ball jacking, one-on-five mess we saw during the preaseason.

Opptimistic prediction: Wiz win in a close, defensive themed game 98-94 with Wall looking good with a solid 22 point 8 assist 5 rebound 3 steal performance. I also expect a big block and rebounding night from McGee. If we can get Blatche in one of Young or Crawford to have a solid outing we should be able to take the game.

McGee will average a double double this season and get his first against the Lopezless Nets in a win. 20 & 10 for the big fella (best Bill Raftery impression).

Wow, an expiring Okur for a 2nd round pick in 2015? Also signed Stevenson earlier. Not nearly as confident as I was 1st.........lol

We should still win at home though, I think

Nick will go for 24 plus points 5 boards and 1 assist.

Other then that, I have no idea who will produce.

I guess you can count Dray for 18 pts 8 rebounds or better.

Going to the game with the roomies. Very excited even though they couldn't really care less and are more excited for a day trip to D.C.

Also, I was really expecting an image-filled, info-packed, prediction-stuffed thread of pure awesomeness. I am disappoint.

Prediction: Wizards, 98-95, w/ Young already sippin on a 40, including game winning 3. Wall an inefficient 16 points, but 12 assists. One of McGee/Blatche gets 15+ boards due to many misses. That same old guy will win the dance contest.

There is no telling what Nick could put up. If others are bricking and Nick is hitting and they actually feed him the ball, he could score 50.

If everyone focuses on defense first and they let the most effective scorer score, they could win. They will lose if people are more concerned about scoring themselves even if they are missing.

that would be the hardest thing to take if that happens. At least
losses lead to a stud player. Watching that old guy pretend
to be a twenty-something is not how I want to see things go.
