Nets have signed Center Mehmet Okur, Nets GM Billy King announced

It wasn't a signing, but a trade. We gave up a 2015 second-rounder for an expiring contract that can replace Lopez.

Utah trades center Mehmet Okur to New Jersey for a 2015 second round pick.

Thanks Kevin, signed Nets fans.

Deron and Okur know each others game so this is an underrated move. D-Will probably gave Billy the nod of approval.

I said in the other thread BK needs to call his old buddy Kevin O'Connor to get Millsap for some TE/garbage pick. I'll take an expiring contract in Okur, though.

Also, DWill says the Lopez injury isn't that severe.

John Hollinger @johnhollinger

BTW, 90% chance this is one of those fake draft picks (ie top 55 protected) and Memo trade is a straight salary dump.

People in Utah are awesome.

He should become a fan favorite for you guys, he may not be the best center in the league but he is a good player and more importantly he's one of the good guys, loved by his teammates.

Like this trade a lot, especially considering how quickly and cheaply it was done. Well done BK and thanks to Utah.

I actually love this move. We're just surrounding Deron with shooters at every position basically.

Plus he's an expiring so it doesn't eat into any of our 2012 cap and can use him at the deadline too.

Yeah that aint happening. Okur is coming off injury, is paid too much and is old. Im sad to see him go though.

Okur/She.Williams/Petro
Humphries/Sha.Williams/J-Williams
James/Stevenson
Morrow/Brooks
D-Will/Gaines/Farmar

My ideal rotation.

Pretty sure Petro will back up Okur.

The Nets have now traded their own second round pick in: 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 drafts.

Hopefully the 2015 pick is indeed one of those "fake" ones, but at the end of the day I can sign off on this deal either way given how imperative Brook's injury made getting another rotation level big (shout out to GoHAM Petro).

Nice one BK, another good move from him. First we sign Stevenson, then waive Graham and now get a huge expiring. Pretty good off season so far.

Oh, I know. It was mostly a tongue-in-cheek post.

Part of me wishes we bit the bullet and kept the cap space open. If Lopez is healthy and regains form before the deadline and becomes enticing, cap space is more valuable than expirings. Hopefully, expirings would be enough for the Magic or they don't trade Howard at all. The good thing is that Deron seems ecstatic about the move.

Billy King and Avery have made all the right moves this offseason. Including pissing Farmar off to the point where he wants to give up 4+ mill not to play here.

Only 1 thing left to do, get rid of Petro as painlessly as possible. Hopefully lots of big men will get hurt this year, and a contender will need a bad big who is overpaid.

Return to Brooklyn Nets
