OT: White Sox, John Danks Agree To Extension

Post#1 » by ThaFlash » Thu Dec 22, 2011 4:34 am

I thought the White Sox were rebuilding, wouldn't it be better to trade him?

Despite many rumors to the contrary, John Danks isn’t going anywhere. The White Sox have agreed to sign the left-hander to a five-year, $65MM contract extension. The news won't be announced before next week, since Danks has to take a physical for the move to become official.

Now is the perfect time to trade him. He's under team control for 6 years! If there were options built in I'm sure AA would be on the phone right now.

Been discussed a bit in the Jays offseason thread.

Very reasonable contract. I'd take him at that price.

Agreed. He is young too and is under team control for 6 years, and we all know AA likes players who are under team control for a while.

I would love to have Danks on the team. AA said he likes to trade with the White Sox too and the past two deals have been good so far.

Well he's under team control now because he signed a pretty big deal. Kinda defeats the purpose of "control".

Still a relatively cheap bargain all things considering and doesn't mean too much if he didn't have a no-trade clause in there.

Ya I think it's fair, but not really a huge bargain or anything. It's not like having Santos for peanuts like us. 8-)

I still don't understand why the extended him if the Sox are rebuilding.

They can't do a strip down to the metal rebuild in Chicago. They are going to do that on the fly... while trying to find ways to unload Rios, Dunn, Konerko, and Quentin to boot.

Thats true I guess, but they could have gotten some good young pieces for Danks.

This doesn't "really" effect Danks situation. If anything this might make Danks more attractive knowing he's locked into a contract, especially if he gets back to form.

I agree he's still young and has a potential to be a very good pitcher. But I had this guy on my fantasy team last year and he was horrible. Hopefully he turns it around next year.
