Not all doctors are good doctors. If Chuck believes he's OK then sign him today! I'm sure they can structure the contract where if God forbid something were to happen it would be voided. Chuck and his agent would likely sign off on that. WIn Win Win for everyone! Chuck, Kings, and us fans!

Re: Kings 2011 FA Rumors
What probably happened is the Kings noticed in the physical that Hayes' heart was unsual (he even admitted that, it's too big) and priliminary tests didn't look really great. They had a short amount of time in which to void the contract (sounds like it was literally the day Petrie made the call to void it) so they had to gamble. Do you pay the man without the security of insurance (failing the physical would mean no insurance on his contract) and hope he's fine?
Now that he's given a clean bill of health by a expert in the field, he can resign the contract, get it insured, and it works out for everyone. Not sure I believe it deserves this level of freakout, as long as he's healthy.

Yeah, don't forget the KINGS recommended he go to the Cleveland clinic. Now, why they voided the contract before having full results? I have no idea. I'm sure they heard the diagnosis could be chronic pericarditis and after reading stuff about people that have it, playing in the NBA wouldn't be an option at that point. Heck, playing pickup ball in the gym might not be an option at that point. While treatable, pericarditis isn't a condition you mess around with and it can flare up at any time.
Brings me back to my initial reaction to all of this. If he has some sort of chronic disease, how was that not picked up before? I mean, you go through physicals each year and I'm sure they would have picked up something in 7 years, c'mon.

There was a deadline for voiding the contract. They could either void it and gamble on him being ok and resigning, or gambled on giving a contract when they thought he had a problem. They couldn't wait for the second opinion.

Hopefully that is the case because then there is a definite excuse and not just a jump of the gun. Maybe it makes sense now that Westphal more than a few times brought up Hayes coming back in the future if he got healthy.

Re: Kings 2011 FA Rumors
I believe the Kings had 6 days or something to void the contract due to health issues.
I am sure Petrie told Chuck that if cleared he would have the same contract offer. We did and a bit better for his troubles.
