Quick observation

Post#1 » by knicksup19 » Fri Dec 23, 2011 7:06 pm

Wouldn't not having Lopez in essence result in a worse record, thereby increasing the value of this year 1st round pick at the deadline. I reckon, that if that pick has any sense of lottery potential the deal could be consummated with less hardships.

Cheers to great BBall in NYC for years to come!

Another point to a better pick: I think Deron is a smart enough guy to see the bigger picture, but I also think that he wants to win so badly that he may just not want to see the bigger picture. So while a higher draft pick would result in a better team next year, assuming (big assumption) that Dwight signs and Deron stays, I don't think Deron would care very much if this team is losing games like a bakery losses cakes when a fat guy walks in.

As for the trade idea, well, with Brook being hurt, his one great quality of playing every game his entire career, lessens his own value just a bit. So theoretically, the better pick is needed just to get even to what Brook's value was before he was hurt.

only 1 flaw with your response... pretty sure bakeries love fat guys comin in and eating all their cakes, unless of course they are stealing them

Thanks for not trolling, fully expected it coming into this tread. Excited to see both MSG and YES playing awesome basketball games almost everyday, not this season but maybe next.

It's kind of a blessing in disguise, but Brook was due to have an improved season. It's another setback in his career (also Mono).

Most Net fans are tired of watching a team with no chance.

It could also possibly prevent us from making a trade for Howard, which in turn will leave us with a better team after we sign him. But, that is a big risk.

I understand the better pick essentially nuetralizes the brook injury effect, but the main assumption I made before posting was that brook comes back 100% in time to be showcased. So the pick is in the 13-18 range. Brook looks solid, and there isn't enough games post deadline for Dwight to effect the nets pick drastically especially if the team is gutted in the trade. Robin had a similar injury and was out 6 weeks. I think the injury is a blessing in disguise, Deron will be upset with losing yes, but when Dwight shows up briefcase in hand that will change, also he doesn't strike me as the type of player to leave money on the table. I would not be concerned with him leaving.

I'm with JG. Some superstars are like women with ticking biological clocks. They want that HoF eligible resume so bad it doesn't matter if you've just massively improved your situation. If there's a bigger, better deal they'll take that.

This is Deron's prime. He gets thrown around in the conversation for best point guard in the league, meanwhile Derrick Rose (4-5 years his junior) is winning MVPs and he's writing off seasons.

Presumably the supporting cast this year isn't going to be dramatically different to the one around him next year, give or take the odd ring chaser/draft pick (assuming we're able land Dwight). In that sense it is important for the supporting cast to prove their worth to Deron. If they're hot garbage then that might be enough evidence to prove that he'd be putting championship contention off another year by re-signing with the Nets.
