Seattle is still alive. At this moment Arizona has been eliminated, but Detroit is leading the Chargers early. The nation has started to pay attention to the young Seahawks, but only a victory against main division foe San Francisco can stave off elimination and the return to the south Alaska media chilliness. Merry Christmas, Seattle. Put a win in the stocking.

Things to Watch:

1. Jackson love
At this rate Barkley thinned the draft and Tarvaris has gained some cred. Watch out for the koolaide.

2. Baldwins revenge
A short rookie wall, or does Dougie get fresh vs the 49ers. I'm guessing the passing game decides this one, btw.

3. O-line play
We know San Fran has a majorly effective rush and run stop alike.

4. Just win
no matter how ugly, this is the decider. Go get a win Seattle!

Thank God the Lions made this a meaningless game because that was a horrible performance by Tarvaris Jackson. Went to the game... Trying to make my way home.

All week long Mike Salk thought this might be Tarvaris' chance to win a big game in the two minute offense. And it was. And he crumbled quickly. What he did today is something I don't think he can learn not to do at this point in his career. Same thing he did in crunch time against Atlanta too.

Very disappointing...you might as well give Portis a shot next week. Not that he's the QBOTF but Tarvaris is a known quantity at this point. Whitehurst is more or less as well. Portis probably isn't even close, but we've got nothing to lose by starting him.

For seem reason some blogs and even members of the press seem to be bagging on the fans in attendance for 'cheering' the Kyle Williams' injury. Which is nonsense...what everyone saw on the field was a returner slip, get hit, and lose the ball while the Seahawks were trying to grab it. Williams' injury simply got lost in the scrum, and it's not as if there was a replay on the video boards that showed him get hit in the head. The fans applauded when he walked off...

Agree. TJ's upside is quite limited. This is why I've been so adamant on the QB question all year long. I know that there is a limit to what I will allow myself to hope for with this team. And this is centered upon the QB position. Plain and simple. I refuse to play stupid about such things.

VERY frustrating game to watch. so stoked after the blocked punt, but what a deflating 15 yard penalty on the ensuing kickoff, then that long pass to crabtree... game over.

since the lions won, i'd vote to start portis, too. nothing to lose.

kudos to lynch and the offensive line. first 100 yard rusher allowed by san fran in 36 games, first rushing td allowed by san fran this season.

Imagine somehow being in the playoffs and the hope of a championship resting on his shoulders in the closing minutes...

I'm open to almost all options for a QB next year. That said, many of the draft 'eligible' QBs currently underwhelm me. And there's a strong indication that RGIII may be leaning towards returning to Baylor next year.

When it comes to the draft, we may be forced to strengthen the pass rush [which was woefully inept today] and add strength/depth to other positions. Not my preference, but I don't know what else we can reasonably do. Add a FA to bring in some competion? Attempt a trade for Peyton Manning if the Colts draft Luck?

working out a trade for anyone worthwhile, like peyton, would be tricky. indy would almost certainly demand a first round pick, which would blow, considering we could be in decent position to grab a decent qb in the 2013 draft. i'd be a big proponent of bringing him in for a couple years, but we'd have to keep our eye on the future with a qb of his age, and trading for him would be hurt that.

flynn's always been intriguing. i would consider jason campbell as a short-term stopgap if he came dirt, dirt cheap. outside of offering drew brees seventy bajillion dollars, the rest of that list is sad, as is the college crop (IMO) outside of luck and rg3. what a mess. we might need to go get our premiere de/olb this draft and try to win in spite of tavaris.

Peyton Manning could well be a FA. They have to decide this winter if they want to release him or not. Am I wrong about this?

I think you're right since he's due a large roster bonus sometime in the spring. He's set to make $26 million next year.

ah, you're probably right. i was thinking that they could get a nice return haul for him, but i suppose it might be hard to get takers for that deal + giving up a bunch of picks.

If Peyton is going to be a FA, I dont know how healthy he is going to be or whether he even wants to play here. Of all the FA's, Kyle Orton's possibly the only decent starting QB who could work here(Strong running game plus different receiving threats). That plus a Nick Foles or a Ryan Tannehill in the early first mid 2nd would make me feel reasonably comfortable with our QB situation going forward. It is a terrible situation though.
