Sale Confirmed: The Michael Jordan Thread

Post#1 » by fatlever » Sun Dec 25, 2011 5:59 pm

I thought it would be cool to have one thread devoted to our owner and all things Jordan. He seems to find himself in the news quite frequently regarding the Bobcats and other activities.

ball dont lie ripped jordan last week for the limited launch of his new shoes. i'm sure everyone heard the stories of mayhem at the malls. i think i heard that they had to shut down the store at southpark for a while. non of this makes any sense to me because i was never a big basketball shoe guy. i've never owned a pair of jordans. i'm a puma man, but whatever.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_d ... ba-wp12346

The re-release of the Air Jordan 11 can hardly be called a "re-release," because Nike and Jordan Brand attempted (and succeeded) to dish up some needless hype and intrigue by only releasing 100 pairs of the shoes to certain stores. Twenty-five years into this game, both companies knew that the limited supply would result in long lines and potential chaos as shoppers attempted to grab a pair, but Nike and Jordan Brand haven't always been on the cutting edge when it comes to caring about anything more than the bottom line, have they?

And it's doubtful that Michael Jordan, some 20-plus years after reports surfaced of fans of his shoes killing over them, has learned anything in all the years. The NSFW scene depicted here (with the description "This is what Michael Jordan does to us.") is apparently of no interest to him, considering that these are the sorts of reactions that happen every single time he releases or re-releases a pair of shoes in limited supply just to drum up "exclusivity."

It's hard to find anyone coming out of this looking good. Even those that succeeded in buying the kicks without harming anyone or anything -- because they'll be sporting patent leather shoes like some 1950s-era uncle.

I'd bet most or at least a significant number of those people buying those shoes are going to resell them somewhere.

I can remember in Middle/Highschool a bunch of people would always get to school late because they had to go buy the new Jordans on the day they came out. People are so dumb...

Good thread FATS, Jordan cops too much crap for his ownership/management but he has been amazing for us.

Wicked article Fats, thanks for sharing.

We are going to conquer the NBA

Curtis Polk does seem to understand the business side of things & is probably the only person Jordan listens too..

As someone who does this type of thing, I agree.

That guy said he stood in line for seven hours and after fees, shipping, and gas, he probably made $25 an hour. That's pretty damn good for standing in a line, doing nothing, especially in this economy.

Remember when Nick "Idiot" Yong said he was going to boycott anything Jordan? Seems as if the recent release of the XI Concords got him to change his tune.

Sounding like a man full of regret, Young told the Post's Michael Lee, “Those were some of my favorites. I might have to give Jordan a call and apologize. I didn’t know those came out. Those were my favorites.”

Young also added, “Protest is over. I’m sorry Michael.” Apparently Elvis has returned to the building, switching out his iconic blue suede shoes for a pair of "Concords."

jordan seeks to restore image of bobcats
http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/0 ... store.html

jordan is starting a charity initiative in charlotte

This is partly the team's own doing, he said, due to some regrettable moves, including a 2008 decision by former owner Robert Johnson to lay off the entire community relations staff. They were the ones responsible for coordinating team donations, community service projects and other acts of kindness.

"The former owner let things slip," said Jordan, and opportunities were lost in the process. The sports icon's frustration is obvious, particularly when he brings up how Charlotte's first NBA franchise, the Hornets, ranked No. 1 in league attendance.

"Number one for 10 years!" Jordan said, his voice rising. "The community supported it and at that time, the Hornets supported the city. I want to duplicate that. I want us to be No. 1 in attendance and No. 1 in the community.

"If we ask people to invest in us, we must invest in them."
