Sanchez won't be starting on this team next year.

Post#1 » by atribecalledrch » Tue Dec 6, 2011 11:32 pm

Thinking about this NFL season, there have been a lot of twists and turns and surprises. The Jets have had a very roller coaster season. Although Sanchez has shown slight improvement thus far in the season showing little flashes of greatness, but my gut is telling me he's either going to be on the bench next season or starting on another team and heres why. The Jets need a QB who can call his own plays, make little mistakes, and can become a leader. This is who I'm referring to:
Image

This season proved that Peyton can take any team to the playoffs and if you add Peyton to Rex's D you get a Super Bowl team and the end of the Patriots. Payton is an Iron man who can also give us a good 4 years of football.

There's absolutely NO chance the Colts will let Andrew Luck slide to the Redskins or Seahawks in the draft. And Rex Ryan will beg like he's never begged before to Tanny to make a move. Now how the deal goes down isn't difficult at all. The Jets can trade their 1st and their future 1st and 2nd for Peyton and if that doesn't work, you trade Sanchez to the Redskins or Seahawks for a 1st rounder and give the Colts 3 1st round picks. If the Jets are smart, they WILL make this move this offseason. We're talking about a Hall of Fame QB who is the 3rd best QB to ever play the game behind Brady and Montana. This guy will single handedly make the Jets a definite SB team. And lets not forget the fact that he CALLS HIS OWN PLAYS. That would mean no more stupid play calls from Schottenheimer.

We can't take on Manning and keep Sanchez...too much money at two players. Taking Peyton off a missed season and neck issue is a huge risk and he's most likely not gonna have much more time to be our guy which means we fall back into our QB woes very soon after. I think we let the season play out before any conclusions can be made about our off season moves, if Sanchez and the Jets get into the playoffs and he performs as well as he has in the previous two post seasons there is absolutely no way we grab Peyton and dump Sanchez.

If we do that though, we'll just end up with a McNabb. Getting us close but ever taking us to the top. And Sanchez will take a paycut if need be.

I think the Jets should absolutely make a run at Manning this offseason. I wouldn't mind giving Sanchez a year or two under Mannings wing but thats probably unrealistic both from a salary standpoint and Sanchez would probably demand a trade if he isn't starting.

Bottom line, we should get Manning at all costs. I think he still has three good years left.

now way in a hell will a QB who has won 4 and played well in 6 road playoff games all in his first two seasons, will accept a bench role whether it be one or two seasons.....there will be a market out their for Mark if he were ever to go on the trade block

He's also one of like 4 or 5 QB's with 30 wins inside of 3 seasons. His postseason numbers eclipse Romo's for instance. He's our QB, and when the line is actually helping out, he's not half bad. His post season work has been SB worthy in 4 out of 6 games.

In recent years the Jets have been vulnerable for big name signings and trades for fairly high costs. But I do not think they will give up on Sanchez. Why should they? He has improved every year, has a great track record in big games (especially playoffs) and he is not afraid of the NY spotlight.

If we want to improve there are much bigger weaknesses on the team. How about a RT who does not let Sanchez get hammered in the pocket after 2 or 3 seconds? Or wide receivers who actually get seperation and help out the QB? And don't get me started on the defense and our great safeties....
Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies...

This was exactly what I was saying the game thread. QB is the least of our worries. I'd like to fix the right side of our O-Line, our safeties, might be time for a new TE since Keller has disappeared two years in a row and I think we could certainly improve at running back as well.

No way the Colts let go of Peyton, Luck will just stay on the sidelines for a couple of years and learn from Peyton. (ala Rodgers)

I agree with you obviously that the QB position isn't a problem. In terms of our needs I absolutely agree with the safety position and as it seems we also need a RT as Hunter isn't even good enough to be a place holder for one season. Seriously, he's gonna get Sanchez seriously hurt when he doesn't get his act together which is unlikely after a horrific season. Other than those two positions I think our needs are the following:

1) Linebacker - We need speed in our linebacking corps and a better pass rush. Bart Scott and Calvin Pace are getting up there in age and Bryan Thomas most likely will not return. David Harris is our only real three down LB. Maybin, Westerman and Scott are mainly specialists right now and can't be counted on throughout an entire series. I hope the Jets look to get Bart Scott's replacement (Vontaze Burfict anyone) and find a real pass rusher at OLB. Pace has a well rounded game but doesn't scare anybody off the edge. Maybin has ways to go. It would be great if he can develop into a three down backer but right now I dont see it.

2) Wide receiver - If we expect Sanchez to take a bigger step forward we have to add some weapons for him. Rex has praised the talent of our receiving group but in the end we got Santonio Holmes (who is having a down year) and a bunch of question marks. Burress doesn't get any separation and looks mad slow. Kerley is a rookie. After that we got Patrick Turner. That's it. We have nobody who can get down the field, we have nobody who keeps defenses honest and we have nobody that can truly create huge matchup problems. Braylon Edwards last year blew the top of the opponent's defense and it really helped our overall offensive rythmn. This year teams crowd the box and do not respect our deep game at all. Why should they, we only got wide receivers who can make catches inside of 15 yards. If we get more dangerous on the outside and especially with guys who can get upfield, then it will make our running game effective again.

3) Tight End - I agree with you that we need a tight end but not one to replace Keller who is already having a career year (should end up with about 800 yards on the season). The player that has to be replaced is Matt Mulligan. He is a walking penalty, can't pass protect and the worst thing of all is that he can't catch at all. So this basically takes every any opportunities that we could get from two tight end sets. We have to find someone who is a good blocker but also can catch a pass here or there for a solid gain so the defense has to account for him. Cumberland seemed to be a riser but after his achilles injury it would be a miracle if he comes back strong next year, if at all.

I would love to get an upgrade at RB or a guy who takes the load off Shonn Greene but right now that would be a luxury. Greene is still a solid back who fits our style of offense. LT and McKnight are terrific third down backs. Yet I think with the way we have run the ball the last couple of seasons and how our team is built, we could ask for more from the position. Yet with the drafting of McKnight and Powell in consecutive seasons, I can't see how we can invest another pick into the position (if not for Trent Richardson or Lamar Miller) and really expect an upgrade.

To me the first job this coming offseason is to get the defense dominant again. No more Eric Smith please, Leonhard looks done aswell and we need younger talent in the LB corps. Our team is a squad that is build around its defense and under Rex that's how it always should be. But for that to work we need better talent.
Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies...

I pretty much agree with everything you've said. I pretty much didn't follow college football this year so I have no idea what's out there but let me add a few thoughts.

We DEFINITELY need either an LB or a high level S within our first couple of picks and should probably gun for both. I think getting an LB might be more important thanks to the age of our top LB's outside of Harris. Grabbing a safety shortly after is crucial, one who knows coverage and plays smart. I'd put LB at slightly more important for us though.

I think all of our TE's are replaceable including Keller. Keller can do some great things in receiving but too often he disappears in games and he's less of a big play threat and more of a possession guy. Add to that, he's not good at blocking and suddenly you have a one trick pony. I want a TRUE TE who can block and catch, he doesn't have to be the mismatch guy that Keller is as long as defenses don't know whether to expect him blocking or heading up field. We can find a TE who blocks and has solid hands later on imho.

I'd like to see what we have in Turner and Kerley. I think the Plax experiment has been alright, not great by any means but he's done us some good. We definitely need a better down field threat and Braylon is sorely missed, but I'd put that need a bit lower on than our needs at LB, S and TE.

If we can get a very good RT that can come in right away with our top pick, I'd put everything aside to do that. Sanchez is playing with a LOT of aches and pains. Our line has gradually gotten worse each season it seems. Without our line giving some protection, Sanchez will never realize any of his potential. I think an offense is only as good as it's O-Line personally.

While a RB move seems weak bc we've drafted Mcknight and Powell... I think it's important that Mcknight or Powell shows the staff that they can come in and replace LT who has to be ready for retirement. If not, we really need to sure up the position. Shonn is solid but nothing better than that and we could really use a true threat at that position. For now I'd take a definitive third down back because I'm not sold on Mcknight.

Sanchez doesn't need to be traded. He's a great QB, but isn't getting any help from anyone. Tanny needs to get a new right tackle, as Hunter's been just abysmal this whole season. Also, we need new pass rushers because we can't seem to be getting that. Hopefully Maybin improves, and maybe Bart Scott can give another year or two of solid play. Our safeties are awful. That plus we need a new deep threat, and maybe we can re-sign Braylon for very cheap considering he hasn't played all that much this year. We lack a deep threat. Hopefully we can trade for some extra draft picks and make the most out of it. RB's aren't an issue, we've got Greene and McKnight, who I think can perform well.

The Jets need the following: New OC, A D lineman that can get to the QB, and a Right Tackle. WIth that said I'm hoping we lose to the dolphins and wind up with like the 14th pick where we can go get some things done. I don't care, Sanchez might have won playoff games but he won't win a SB ever. This team needs a true veteran not youngster. This team clashes too much in terms of what we are. We're win now but we have a young QB? Nah can't work. Maybe Sanchez is a Pro Bowl QB btu hw will never be with Schotty. NEVER. Sanchez never throws the deep ball. Never even gets a chance too. I knew the Jets were done after Oakland. Same Ol Jets Season.

Great post mo, I agree with pretty much everything.. sanchez is not the problem, actually he has saved this team several times this year.. every QB throws INT's even the elite... the problem is sanchez doesn't have weapons down the field.. other than Holmes(who is very good0 the jets have no receiver that scares the defense.. I predicted that losing Braylon would hurt this team, he spread the field and made huge catches downfield for the jets.. also guys like cotchery and Brad smith were sure handed third down guys...

As far as our defense.. No pass rush without the blitz, that is a problem, we need two LB's to play with Harris who is a tackling machine... One who can play the role of a T-sizzle from the ravens.. and please, get us an athletic Safety who can cover and tackle.. PLEASE!!!!

last but not least, other than Brick and mangold who are all pro lineman, we have holes on the right side.. Hunter is a joke, and that is part of the offense problem, sanchez is always under duress... a three step drop and he is under pressure... the jets front office tampered with the O-line too much and it cost us a season..

I don't expect the jets to make the playoffs now... too many variables.. we need the bengals to lose and that may happen because the ravens desperately want home field, and we need the raiders to lose.....and we have to win... jeez

Nailed it Mo, great post.

I think or draft priorities should go:

1st round: Pass rusher
2nd-5th round: Either an ILB or safety (Easier to get talent late in the draft as opposed to a pass rusher, unless someone drops to us in the 1st)
6th-7th: Project linemen (O or D)

Return to New York Jets
