Re: LAL@Kings - Monday, Dec. 26, 2011: game one
Hustle and defense is contagious. the additions of outlaw salmon and Hayes are truly fantastic for this team. i saw several great moments of team defense that simply didn't exist for the kings last season. cousins seems to be putting in the work on the defensive end. he had a huge impact on this game and he only scored 12 points.
We didn't have very many assists but i saw a decent amount of passing. i would like to see us move the ball around the perimeter a bit more before we look to score it should give us more open looks. i do like that i saw us literally run the dribble drive a couple times. we send in one guy without the ball to create space then send the guy in with the ball to get deep penetration and then we have a trailer playing clean up. with our lineup that should be an incredibly effective play for us. over all great win

Great game by the Kings! Haven't been this excited in a long time. Demarcus was a beast down low today. Chuck Hayes brought us great interior defense. Marcus was the man. Tyreke was Reke. Wasn't too impressed with Jimmer but hey its his first game. Overall they showed good composure when they were against the ropes and the Lakers looked like they would complete the comeback. Can't wait for the season ahead!

Anybody think Hayes over Dalembert was a mistake? Sammy is tall, but he isn't very vocal on team defense.

Re: LAL@Kings - Monday, Dec. 26, 2011: game one
I know there has only been a short season, but man this and-1 offense looked ugly. Only way they scored was because of individual talent, which isn't a bad problem to have, but if this team expects to make a playoff push during a shortened season, they will need to adjust when the game slows down and possessions get tight. Which leads me to my other worry: the down-sizing of the frontline. I wish Hayes was paired with another legit C, as the team was out-rebounded by a Bynum/Odom-less Laker team. That can't happen. This lead to second chance points which shouldn't have been there for the taking.
On a positive note: Evans's jumper looked better. Once Jimmer settles in and gains confidence, his game improves in front of our eyes. Cousins not imploding in the second half, but instead fighting adversity and actually playing better late in the game with foul trouble was a very positive aspect as well. Salmons was solid, but still a chucker, and I wish the Kings would have explored other options last year rather than taking on his contract in exchange for moving down in the draft and Beno.

Not yet big fella, but he sure as hell is gettin there!
Brent Barry is awful btw. annoying questions and disregards MT23 like he hasn't been lightin the league up since he's a Kings player.
What a teammate big cuz

Yeah, it took some big shots/Kobe chucking for us to hold off the Lakers in the 4th. We definitely should not count on Thornton making a 3 off an iso play like that every time but...I'll take it tonight.

Nah, this team needs to start using Cousins and Hayes for their passing, I'll still give Westphal some time on that, because they are going to be a source for some easy baskets.
Salmons did a little bit of his "old school" gunk up the offense stuff which was scary, but overall he showed the ways he can fit in for sure.
Bottom line: that starting unit needs to be on the court together as much as possible. I know Cousins had some foul trouble but that unit is going to have to find that cohesion, because as we all saw last year, quantity < quality.

Salmons tried to make things happen, when other got scared. I don't blame him one bit after to having to play that kind of defense on Kobe all night.

Credit where credit is due.
Westfail was doing a great job today with his subs and feeling the game.
If we get Jimmer to be more aggressive, that Jimmer/Chuck PNR, or even better the Jimmer Demarcus PNR(i'm so excited about Demarcus actually setting picks man!) can be LETHAL.
Jimmer on that pull up jumper is just money. he couldve really scored alot today if he wasn't so scared for some reason.

Hayes has shown in one game why he is worth much more. His leadership, I haven't seen the Kings play team defense like this for years. When people start talking about playing defense on this team, they mentions Chucks name first. What an amazing pick up.

Re: LAL@Kings - Monday, Dec. 26, 2011: game one
What a great day for all of us . 1-0 wow we are undefeated . Feels good to have a winning record .I saw so many positives tonight . Keeping the Lakers under 100 points , playing great defense , finally closing out a game . Cousins energy & fire at the end. Hearing the crown chant beat L.A. was sweet . Knowing the Lakers are 0-2 and we are 1-0 . All is great in Kingsland at least right now .
My only true critisism is what we all know . We sucked at the line tonight and we must do much better at the line if we want to be a playoff team and make some real noise .
Finally after the past 4 seasons or so I can finally see this team going in the right direction and I truly see a very bright near future for us . Know aside from being on the right track etc. We need to keep the Kings in Sactown that would be even sweeter .

oh wait nvm,
I guess you missed the part where the Lakers without their best frontcourt rebounders out-rebounded the Kings with a healthy team, as well as putting up a lot of second chance points. They didn't win this game because of their frontcourt, they won because they had too many perimeter weapons. And that kind of winning worries me, because if you live by the jumper, you die by the jumper.

The rotation wasn't bad, although I was wondering why Thomas and Jimmer were in so deep into the 4th when the Lakers started to make it a 3-4 point game. Once Cousins came back, the tide turned back into the Kings favor, though.

The only time we were letting them get the offensive board was having Outlaw at PF and Hayes at center. They couldn't do **** inside when Hayes and Cousins were in the game. You can have Dally and his flashy blocks out of bounds. Ill take Hayes with his amazing defense, leadership, and toughness. First time in 2 years I have saw Pau having a tough time down low vs us.

Jimmer was good just had some nerves for a first game IMO. His playmaking looked good, and his shot just lost its touch. What I like about this team is we have some well distributed talent so not every player has to be on at all times.

Which was my entire %^&*ing point about downsizing the frontline. If Cousins gets into foul trouble (which he will), he's not always going to have great second halves like tonight, and then what? Who is going to come in and maintain control on the glass? It's either JT, JJ, or Outlaw next to Hayes, and none of those guys will do that consistently.

You just don't get it. It's not one or the other, it's chosing to downsize and losing an advantage up front in order to play a small ball philosophy with big time perimeter weapons. That's foolsgold that won't win playoff games.
But be happy that the team couldn't control a severely weakened frontline.

Re: LAL@Kings - Monday, Dec. 26, 2011: game one
^ It has nothing to do about our lack of talent. Its all on the coach when he put Outlaw out there over JJ or Thompson. For a team that supposedly dominated us in the front court, they couldn't grab a rebound to save their lives in the last 4 mins.
There is a reason no one wants Dalembert, he is a box score champ, nothing more nothing less, there is a reason he has been on his 3rd team in about a years time.

Were they really making many 2nd chance points?
They took 16 3-ptrs and made only 1 shot.
They took 88 shots and missed 51 shots.
Ouch...
