Vote: Eric Gordon or Derrick Williams?

Post#1 » by shrink » Tue Dec 27, 2011 6:08 pm

Suppose NOH trades the MIN pick to a different team today, and made this trade offer straight up tomorrow.

MIN GETS: Eric Gordon
NOH GETS: Derrick Williams

Would you take it?

ERIC GORDON

I'd take on Okafor or add Wes (not both) if needed.

Our 1st back + Gordon for Derrick Williams? That should be a no-brainer. I don't see the Hornets doing that however. I get the reasoning behind it but it wouldn't take our 1st back to get D.Will. Gordon fills a need. Hornets would be much more willing to extend Gordon and draft using our pick. D.Will looked good in his first game last night but Gordon is a proven commodity and our pick will likely be late-lottery, which in this draft is still pretty good.

I don't think that is the proposed trade. Just that if the Hornets traded our pick in another deal, there is no longer that conflict of interest.

It would take more than Williams to get Gordon.

I'm going to edit the first post to make that clearer. Thanks guys.

Actually, this idea has been on the trade board, and several fans from other fanbases have said that they would prefer Derrick Williams. I certainly think NOH might, because:

1. Williams got more publicity last year than Gordon (bad team, and upstaged)- NOH still needs to sell tickets.

2. Williams is on the rookie deal for a long time -- cheaper

3. Williams is at least seven years from having the leverage to force his way out of NOH - a point that the hornets may take very seriously right now.

Eric Gordon.

I think the Hornets will hold onto him unless he goes to management personally telling them he wants out. Personally, I think it would take more than just Williams to get him. If he wants out, I think any package starting with Williams is one of the better offers out there. I could easily see him wanting to stay loyal to the Hornets since they traded their superstar for him and that he's easily the guy in New Orleans. He might like that. I can't say I know where he stands with the Hornets though. Could be happy once he gets settled in or he could force a trade.

Number wise we can give them Williams and Ellington, and the Memphis and Utah 1sts if needed. If we add a second trade for Okafor we can give them Pek and Wes/Luke. Both trades work, and would make us better...

ERIC GORDON

I don't see it happening thanks to that wretched 2012 pick, but I think the value is pretty close.

I don't get the love for Gordon. I especially don't like the fit along Beasley

But you'd keep Williams over getting Gordon? Do you actually think that's a better fit?

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

Why is Gordon a bad fit next to Beasley?

Then we trade Beas and move Wes to the 3... and hopefully we never have to see him try to dribble again.

Eric Gordon is the perfect player to have next to Rubio. He can play off the ball, create his own shot, can knock down the three, fairly decent defender, and he can attack the basket and get to the free throw line. He would actually open things up for the offense and I see no problem with him playing alongside Beasley.

That is what I think about Mayo because he is worse than Beasley. Gordon is much better than either so his fit with Beasley shouldn't be a factor. Having said that, I don't even see the fit being bad.

It should be Beasley doesn't fit with Gordon, not vice versa. Gordon is the better player, so either Beasley fits with him or he doesn't. Beasley just needs to make better decision. He has all the tools, hopefully Adelman can work with him on his decision-making over the course of this year.

Williams + Utah 1st + Randolph for Eric Gordon

If people are concerned about how Beasley would fit with Gordon, you could always move Beasley. You do everything you can to bring in players that fit with Rubio-Gordon-Love core.

Beasley + Ridnour + Pek for Iggy + future pick

Darko
Love
Iggy/Johnson
Gordon
Rubio

I don't think Gordon will be offered the max but Love most likely will. If we cannot stay under the lux, Iggy could easily be moved. He might be overpayed but he's not a bad contract.

Personally, I don't think Beasley is a bad fit next to Gordon, but if it did become an issue for whatever reason, you move Beasley, no question.

I'm mixed. It's not a bad duo, but I'm just not sure of having two scorers who can't facilitate, rebound, or defend. If we did pursue Gordon, I'd prefer a small forward who can play defense (and it doesn't have to be Iguodala either).

Gordon is a decent defender and facilitator. He averaged over 4 assists last season.

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
