A Look Ahead: 2012 Opponents

Post#1 » by MickeyDavis » Tue Dec 27, 2011 6:30 pm

Way too early to think about this but I'm bored :)

Next year we have our usual 6 division games. We also have:

at San Francisco
at Seattle
at Dallas/NY Giants winner
at Houston
at Indianapolis
Arizona
St. Louis
New Orleans
Tennessee
Jacksonville

I know the opponents are correct and I'm pretty sure the home/away is correct based on the rotation but I could have screwed something up there. But we were suppose to play Oakland on the road this year and it was switched with Kansas City, something about traveling twice to the west coast. That may factor in with SF and Seattle, I'm not sure.

Two road dome games, 3 if Dallas wins the East. Add in Detroit and Minny and we could have 5 dome games.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Could be a fairly difficult road schedule. If Manning is healthy and he is the difference between the Colts being what they are now and at least a 9 win team or so, it's likely that we play all decent to good teams on the road (aside from the Vikings). The home schedule looks pretty easy though.

This is all assuming that all teams will be similar now as they are next year and since this is the NFL they likely won't.

As defeding Super Bowl champs we get the season opener at Lambeau. Could be the Saints again. None of the other home games will be very appealing. Chicago? Detroit? Doubtful.

Looks like a pretty tough road sked. A lot of things will change like it does every year though.

And Rodgers will be on fire and our receivers will catch everything and we'll win by 20.

And then in the post game we'll say ''why couldn't we have done that vs them in the playoffs''.

I'm calling it now.

Giants, Niners, Saints will be national games. Maybe Detroit on Thanksgiving again. Houston is a possibility. And usually one Bears game is a Sunday/Monday nighter. And of course this year they are expanding the Thursday night games.

King:

Lots of candidates for the Giants to open with next September 6. The favorites, in order:

1. Green Bay. Easily the most attractive game, but will FOX lobby hard to keep it as a doubleheader game, and keep it from opening night?

2. New Orleans. Drew Brees-Eli Manning is a heck of a No. 2 choice.

3. Pittsburgh. Great story angles at the midpoint of the careers of Ben Roethlisberger and Eli Manning. Each will be entering year nine. If the Giants didn't get Manning in the 2004 draft, they'd have taken Big Ben. And each has two Super Bowl wins.

4. Philadelphia. Good rivalry game. Mike Vick, presumably healthy.

5. Dallas. But after FOX got robbed of both Giants-Cowboys games for 2011 by NBC, I doubt sincerely NBC's going to be lobbying for this game.

Lions thanksgiving will be vs aFc this year more than likely. I do think Pack at lions will be a MNF game.

Last season were the NFL Network games streamed online at NFL.com? The Super Bowl was, but I don't remember if the TNF games were. If they are then I don't mind the expansion but if not then I obviously don't like it.

That's right, Detroit will have an AFC opponent this year on Thanksgiving, it will be on CBS. I can definitely see one of the Pack/Lions game being on National TV. MM liked the Thanksgiving game, he said he didn't mind the short week because then they had an "extra" bye. Maybe we'll get another Thursday night game

The Packers will NOT be playing the NFL opener this year. Cowboys at Giants on Wednesday September 5th.

That's probably good, since the Super Bowl champ usually wins their opener.

Adam Schefter ‏ @AdamSchefter
Bad news for Cowboys: As @NFLfootballinfo points out, defending Super-Bowl champ is 8-0 hosting kickoff game since games started in 2004.

Ya I'm alright with this for the aforementioned reason and I'm always so excited for the start of the season that I'll be almost as jacked for this game as if the Packers were playing. Then we still have a Packer game Sunday so it's two days of football awesomeness instead of one.

Rob Demovsky ‏ @RobDemovsky
#Packers preseason foes: At San Diego (8/9 on ESPN), home vs. Cleveland (8/16-19), at Cincy (8/23-26) and home vs. KC (8/30-31).

Return to Green Bay Packers
