Official Thread:GM2 of 66;Hawks vs Wizards Dec 28th 2011

Beatdown last night. It was unexpected IMO. I thought New Jersey would be atleast competitive. They beat the Wizards the team we play tonite, but don't look too far into that because I really think this will be much more competitive and the Wiz have a chance to win tonite. They are a better matchup for us than the Nets.

Wall vs Teague
Joe vs Jordan
Marvin vs Rashard Lewis
Josh vs Blatche
Al vs McGee

Good test on paper and some good storylines of Jordan and Chris Singleton. Especially Jordan since he actually played here for half a season. Unfortunately, Kirk has yet to lace them up for us this year.

Enough of my thoughts ready for gametime. 7:30 PM Eastern Time. The game is on NBA League Pass and Fox Sport South for locals.

Go Hawks! :D

Sweet, home opener tonight coming off of a great game in which our bench really shined; our starters should be rested after playing less last night because of that bench. This'll be a good test tonight coming off of a back to back playing the youngest team in the NBA. LETS GO HAWKS!!!!

Hawks favored to win by 9.5 points. Washington has a great deal of talent and concern me since we're coming off a back to back. It's still a game that we should win.

Well damn! Our board is really really inactive. Nice start to the season albeit against a couple of lost, confused teams. I Need Monday to get here so we can really see what this is about. One more scrimmage against Brooklyn first.

Great start to the season. Two really strong performances from Marvin and Teague. T-Mac looking alive and productive. A seemingly new and fresh sense of cohesion and urgency on the defensive end. Hopefully this this board picks up interest because this team is looking good.

Really disappointing to see the board so slow, but people around here are too star struck we don't need a superstar just for our players to play well together like they have for 2 games.

Will be fun to watch if Teague and Marvin can stay where they are right now and Joe, Josh, and Al get there normal numbers from previous years we will be a major problem.

Good overall and team effort by the Hawks tonight.

I love the double-double from Al Horford and Josh Smith.

Marvin Williams and Joe Johnson hitting their 3-pointers.

We out rebounded Washington 45-32.

Man this board is definatley one of the slowest, it's sad but at least the team is playing great, the game vs NJ is a must win because after that game our schedual becomes hell.

I've been going out a bit recently, so unfortunately I haven't been able to watch said. That said, I'm pretty sure there's a massive negative correlation between when I watch the Hawks and when they win that might actually border on causation, so...

Looking at the stat line, it looks like Marvin played well... again. Maybe it was the back all along?

The only SE Division game tonight is New Jersey at Orlando. It'd be nice if NJ would show up and help us by beating Orlando. I can dream!

On the 30th:
Orlando at Charlotte
NJ @ Atlanta
Miami at Minnesota
Washington at Milwaukee

2-0 and with these scores is much more than what I expected.

I am very happy for the wins. Great defense and team effort, with many players contributing.

BUT, and this is a really big BUT:

What is going to happen when we do not connect those early outside shots during the first minutes?

We do not get a single ball inside EVER. Everybody shoots from 3 point range and a long two. Just Teague takes the ball to the rim, JJ posts up a little bit (usually just for getting a double team and then kicking the ball out) and Zaza sometimes fight something inside, but just off lost balls and strange situations.
Also we outrebound other teams, but for example, we did not get a single off rebound agains the Wizards in all the 1st quarter. We did not get a ball inside the paint either, but for a couple of lay ups by Teague and another fastbreak by Marvin.

That will be a problem.

I agree with you those 3's and long 2's won't fall all the time. we still need a low post scorer.

this first of the year is going to be brutal. Mia twice and Chi twice in the same week...... ;(
