Blue Jays sign Aaron Laffey

Post#1 » by dagger » Sat Dec 31, 2011 1:31 am

He of the Laffey Curve, no doubt. Ought to be our staff ace. Second time today Rogers makes me look bad by spending some of that real folding money.

They should pay him with an oversized novelty cheque - then they can honestly claim that they're willing to spend the big money.

He might be a signing to fill up the rotation in LV, if they are planning to keep the top prospects away from there. He's Jo-Jo level awful.

Wow were getting Laffey. He's AAA fodder for us and can help out if Perez flames out or Olliver gets hurt

So he's ok against lefties and not ok against righties. Love a soft tossing left hander.

Awesome reference. Maybe the "Laffey curve" is as baffling as the "Laffer curve".... :D

the article says he turned down a deal with Royals because he wants a chance to be a starter. is AA really going to give him a chance at a starter role? i highly doubt it. AA just played this guy by dangling "potentially" 3 opening starter jobs

edit: sure he will get a crack at it in spring training. but his numbers are pretty bad across the board. i think AA just signed him to get another lefty in the pen

Totally. I have a hard time believing this is part of a big plan. There are a 1000 guys like him out there and you can get them whenever you want. Can we please get down to some real, meaningful roster moves please?

If the moves today do not point to a power shift, then I don't know what does.

Where are all the Rogers apologists now? Darth_Fed, tell us, how this is a great move on Rogers' part, and a great move for the immediate and long-term success of the club?

This move smells of shame and desperation. Shame at what MLB teams are dishing out in trades and FA for pitchers with a pulse. And desperation with the realization that we have'nt been able to get in on it and get a top 3 starter. While i would love a top 3 guy, we have a lot of good young pitchers who need some time. If we treat them like snider they will never develop.

I have officially stopped believing any of you are serious. OMG Laffey, Mathis, and Valbuena??!!!?? We're dooooooommmed!!!!

Get a grip. Everyone has to sign guys to fill out the AAAA squad. I'll admit if he's this year's version of Reyes (meaning if he sees 100+ IP with the big club) it'll be an awful thing, but I don't see why anyone is predicting that from this. He's a sacrificial lamb to the stadium in LV that eats pitchers, nothing more nothing less.
