what should the over/under be for minutes/sec of playing
time btw ridiculously bad calls favoring the Heat.
I honestly can't watch them anymore with the amount
of favoritism they receive.

I hate the change in rule which allows players to delay touching
the ball on inbounds plays. Use to be the 5 sec count continued
until the ball was touched. They should reinstate that rule.
Watching a point let the ball slowly roll towards the frontcourt
while daring a defender to make him pick it up doesn't add
anything worthwhile to the game. It's dumb.

Did this really happen? If so, maybe the sickest thing I've seen him do.

yeah swami, it happened just like that. Amazing play. But we lost
that game along with ~38 other road games last year.

What if the only consequence of the Mayan calendar reaching its end is that your insurance company sends you a new Mayan calendar? Maybe illustrated with some Norman Rockwell paintings or photos of cats? I guess that wouldn't have made for much of a movie.

Re: Official Not So Random Thoughts Thread Version 2.2
First off, to any Hokies out there - I am sorry, I really am. I feel for you, and for the poor kicker who had a great game but will be remembered for the one miss instead of the 4 clutch kicks. (The punk starter, on the other hand, should be in jail if the reports are true.)
That said, this year's Hokies may have been the least deserving BCS team in history (not that the BCS history goes back all that far). Note - I didn't say the worst BCS team in history, that was probably the Cincinnati team of a few years ago.
But this year's team really had no business being in a BCS Bowl. Consider: 3 teams that were clearly better than the Hokies were not eligible to be picked: Arkansas and South Carolina, who were not eligible since the SEC already had two teams in the mix, and USC, who is on probation. 2 other teams finished ahead of VT in the Rube Golberg-like machinations of the BCS: Boise State and Kansas State. Baylor not only had a much better season, IMO (beating Oklahoma, TCU, and Texas), but a Denard Robinson-RGIII matchup would have been one for the ages. Michigan State and TCU also both had better seasons - certainly better wins than anything VT had to show - but were inelgible because the BCS computers ranked them 17 & 18, 1 and 2 slots too low for consideration.
But the real travesty isn't so much about VT as it is about the ACC. I hate to say it, but the ACC is - at best - the 6th best conference in the country. Obviously, the SEC is #1. The Pac 12, Big 12, Big 10 are all better, especially at the top. And the Mountain West - with Boise & TCU, plus 3 other Bowl teams (out of 8 total) - can make the case that they're better. Why, even Conference USA with Southern Miss and Houston is probably on par with the Big East, if not the ACC. And this conference gets 2 BCS bids?
So my real issue isn't the Hokies, although that's where the focus is right now, but the BCS, and it's ugly stepchild, the RPI. Seriously, what's up with the RPI? It's a joke. Somehow, the computer rankings caused VT to leapfrog over TCU, Baylor, and Michigan State. How is that possible? Well, to give you an idea how much sense the RPI/computer rankings make, the "best win" for the Hokies was.... UNC? UVA? Georgia Tech? Miami?
Nope, it was Arkansas State.
That's right - VT got that sterling computer ranking by beating Arkansas State. That's not the Razorbacks, in case you needed the clarification - that's the Red Wolves.
And the Sugar Bowl picked them because they have about a million alums, mostly in the Southeast, and "travel well."
So thanks for raking in the extra bucks, and for letting us have the New Year's Eve spotlight of the Chik-fil-A Bowl. Don't think I'm not grateful. But really, that slot had at least eight or ten teams that should have been playing tonight.
Can we please have a playoff now?

Lewis calls Washington home now, with his family settling in nicely and his daughter in school at Sidwell Friends.
Funny how the offspring of the rich and famous, always have space available for them at Sidwell Friends.

SLHS frosh girls win again. TJ was over-matched and Jacqui got extended
play, did somewhat better. We'll see how things go from here re PT for her.
I don't expect her to play much in contested games.
I went to the Y last night and played pickup. My team got slaughtered
in the first game I played. It was like I was playing for TJ.
