I'm torn. I really like Lovie and think he hasn't ever been given a really good hand to play with, but the constant swapping of OCs and other decisions is something I wouldn't want to see repeated. THE BIGGEST THING is that Tim Ruskell CANNOT be his successor. If that happens, nothing has changed.

Oh, and something more related to/in contrast to the Bulls' beat writers - notice that Brad Biggs was the first to break this. Quite refreshing to have a local beat writer do that.

Angelo had a good run of draft picks to begin with but his time had come. His stubborness to not get Cutler the weapons he needed doomed this team. Now the Bears have an aging defense and underwhelming talent on the offensive side of the ball. (Outside of Forte/Cutler)

Don't you dare get my hopes up. Could he bring Tony Dungy or Bill Cowher with him?

Only thing that alarms me with Polian is what happened in Indy at the end. Showed the same kind of franchise leaning on their QB situation that the Bears had.

This team would have won 11-12 games if Cutler and Forte had stayed healthy. Do we fire Angelo if that happens? No.

When you lose absolutely critical players on your team, you don't recover. You just don't. If the Bulls lost Derrick Rose for the season would we fire Gar Forman if they won 35 games? If the Heat lost LeBron would they fire Pat Riley if they won 35 games?

The Bears were probably a top 8 team in the NFL until they lost two of their most critical players. Injuries are part of the game, but the "injuries are no excuse" thing is silly. There's a reason why some guys make way more money than other guys, and it's because they are far more important and not replaceable.

Angelo's first round picks have been crap, but he's made up for that by finding tons of gems in the 2nd round and later rounds.

I'm not in love with everything Angelo has done, and I'm more or less indifferent to his firing, but when I try to look at him and judge him relative to the rest of the guys in the NFL I have a hard time finding that he comes up in the bottom third.

Angelo shouldn't be fired because Cutler and Forte went down. He should be fired for not having anyone on the team to step up and AT LEAST win a couple games against mediocre competition. He made enough mistakes over time to warrant this firing.

The Score has been reading off lists of Angelo's draft classes, and they've been pretty bad. Bad in the sense of 90% of the names making scratch your head and wonder "who?"

Not sure how that compares with other teams' drafts, but you'd think some more names would stick out. Something a lot of people were harping on over the weekend were that outside of a few veterans, the defense really isn't all that great. There's no real next generation of players to continue things. Plus, factor in an offensive line and receiving corps that have been bad for a few years now.

Glad he's gone, but I guess we'll see what direction ownership wants to go in. I'm still pretty pessimistic about them, but the fact they axed Angelo gives you some hope...

Ugh.

BradBiggs Brad Biggs
#Bears announce 3 pm press conference say "Ted Phillips informed Jerry Angelo" he was fired.

So, good possibility that Phillips stays on.

you guys are all happy now, but wait until team blows up....back to 4-12, 3-13s

JA and lovie smith did a fantasitc job, better than a lot of teams. We went to the superbowl, made multiple playoff appearences. which would of been this year if cutler hadn't got hurt.

some of you guys are fools. Lovie is very good coach.

you guys think the mccaskey family is remotely capable of putting anything belic like? Heck look at the cowboy since the early 90s, they've sucked nearly every year and stupid bears fans still cry when were better than them and most teams year in and year out.

pooolease.

congrats to JA for putting together one hell of defense over the past 7 years for us.

Return to Chicago Bears
