How has Williams been?

I haven't seen many Wolves games besides highlights, but I can't help but notice Derrick Williams' disappointing numbers so far. Of course, it's early and numbers don't tell the whole story so I just wanted to hear your guys' opinions

he's been improving, definitely a great pick! This may just be me but I see him becoming more of a wing man as the year goes on.

He has looked a little lost at times IMO, but overall, considering he is a rookie with (comparatively) less basketball experience, he has played very solid. I think the only times I have cringed by D-Will this year have been when he has forced a drive and just kind of ran into a defender in a out of control manner. Looks a lot like Love often did 2 years ago. He will learn, I am not concerned. He has the athleticism and mindset to really grow as a player.

Williams has been a great spark off the bench. Great when playing with Rubio but also has shown no signs of being able to play sf and i think the coaching staff just wants him to stick to pf this year. I would like to see him on the court to close out games but thats more of a matchup issue since Love would have to play C.

That's just you, dude is the same size as Love, if not bigger.

I think if he's every going to be a full time SF he's going to have to go on the Love diet and drop some weight. He's definitely big and strong enough to play PF in this league right now but that has to be Love's long term position.

Besides being behind Love, I think the biggest thing keeping him from more minutes is understanding NBA defense. Last night on one play in particular you could see Love telling him he missed a rotation which resulted in a Spur lay up.

I think the best thing I've seen from Williams is despite being a little out of sorts out there at times, and not playing huge minutes, he's made great impact in several games already. And he's showing great effort, getting tough boards down low and working hard defensively. I think with some more time, he'll start playing more on the wing, but I agree, I think he'll have to cut up a little more to be full time there. Adelman's basically got him playing behind Love at PF to keep the game simpler for him right now though.

He has done well, but in a limited role. His numbers may be disapointing if you look totals, but he really impacts the game, rebounding, stealing balls, finish at the rim, making 3 with good rate. Adelman is taking care of him, just like ricky. Rick dont want them frustrated early in the season.
He may be a 4 at this point but the guy has dribble skills, anyone saw the play over jefferson yesterday?
Its hard remember a 4 with those skills. Get him one preseason with the yoga master of love and see what happens 20 lbs lighter.

The problem is William is no where near the speed and athleticism that Lebron has. Lebron is a freak of nature thats why he can play pg/sg/sf/pf.

its hard to say he is the next lebron, but I think this guy is over anyone trying to emulate him.

I think someone like a Carmelo Anthony would be a more apt guy to try to compare him to, not LeBron lol.

I never compared him to LeBron. Teven said Williams couldn't be a wing because he's same size/bigger than Love.

Sorry, I didn't mean to say you specifically compared them. My only thought was Williams reminds me more of a Melo type as far as his size, athleticism, and skill. Carmelo's in that 6-8, 230 range, I think Williams is about 10 over that, but could easily trim down to it. Love is more 6-9, 245 or so I believe, and not as athletic as either of them.

And seeing that move he put on Jefferson....he's got wing skills, no doubt they're in there. But he's gonna definitely struggle some defensively if he tries to play wing at his current build I think.

Wouldn't mind seeing Williams go on the Love diet this off-season to become more of a SF. He has looked good in his few minutes. Its just hard with Beasley, Love, Tolliver, Randolph.

He kinda reminds me of a younger paul pierce, but not quite as good of a shooter.
