So so far your conclusion is that Thibs has seen this with Rose and the have made the right adjustments?

Also I would imagine that if you replace Korver with Rip in those plays with Rip being the much better passer those plays would have been run much better since Korver was the one that really **** it up? Same with Brewer but with his shooting? Though this year Brewer's shooting does look much improved.

Yes, the only real fixable "problem" so far was ignoring the roll man into the wing.

I don't think Rip is going to help at all with preventing the 4 defender from mucking up the play. His job most nights will be in the corner for the 5 defender. This way, when Rose breaks the traditional rotation down with an unexpected cross over (or simply blows by the 4 defender), the 5 defender will have to step up for the 3/4 defenders to help out. This leaves Rip wide open in the corner. Rose will also be able to use Rip in the corner if he doesn't take the screen and drives switching everyone's "number" on defense. Rose has done a magnificent job this season of not being predictable and making the pick and roll extremely hard to guard.

Another thing I noticed when watching tape from this year is that we actually screened for the screener a few times. This is another big improvement to increase the quality of the pick and roll.

great idea i would love as an aside to see if there was any interesting referee activity a well.. ie early fouls on big men or key players.. interesting no calls that lead to turnovers.. i wish i had the time to do this but i think a variance will occur from a norm in the regular season contest

You're obviously trolling, but I'm sure if you go back to the tape, Lebron is very rarely stopping Rose 1 on 1. I'm sure he's got help. Not to mention, Lebron probably SHOULD be able to cover Rose. He's got a pretty good height and wingspan advantage and is a bit of an athelete. I found it funny when the press gushed all over Lebron's defense on Rose. It's a bigger deal when a Pippen stops a Magic or if Rose were to stop Wade. Lebron has a pretty big advantage in the first place, not including the fact that the Heat could repeatedly double Rose.

I don't think it was Lebron shutting down Rose, but to be fair to this project and to get the right conclusion, we have to be open to it. We will see soon enough

hi guys didnt know where to talk about this....but do u think thibs would ever switch to a zone defense seeing how heat is struggling against it so much? I honestly think it can work if we switch to it randomly to throw them off. cause we can clearly guard them one on one really well. bulls should really try to practice it during regular season. what do yall think?

I only go to a zone if the Heat can prove that they can beat the Bulls defense that they mightily struggled against last season.

Great vids and analysis. I have to say that Boozer hitting that midrange more will help a lot. He should be able to make the Heat pay for their doubles on the screen past the 3 point line.

And I love Deng. But having Rip out there making the decisions next to Rose in the 4th will also be great. He's just a better playmaker in all aspects.

Deng looked like a non factor in all of the videos I have seen so far in this series. This season he has looked a lot better in attacking.

Not only for the effort you're putting in, but because it has really helped me learn that Thibodeau's offensive chops are a lot better than I've given him credit for. You(well, at least I) don't always pick up on the the little wrinkles and adjustments he made during those games that you've been able to point out here. What looked like us uncreatively running the same play that didn't work over and over what actually far more than that. Thibs is better than I thought!

Unfortunately, this also reaffirms my concerns about us having the offensive personnel to beat this type of defense.

I agree. This blitz off of the pick and roll seems to be crushing us. Boozer have thrived off of it so far this year, but Rose has been stopped in his tracks by it. I'll look to see what he does on these especially going forward.
