Value of Hibbert

Post#1 » by geistmoney » Tue Jan 3, 2012 6:39 pm

I think it's time we start opening up trade options for Hibbert. He's been below par this season, and finished last night games with 9 pts 6 boards against a non-Brook Lopez Nets team. While he's had nice games this year, i feel like we've reached his plateau in terms of development. I'm not sure if i'm okay with paying him roughly $10 million per for 4-5 years, knowing that a chuck hayes or someone else could be doing the same for cheaper.

Also, he needs to be able to out perform Noah, which I haven't seen him do yet.

What other centers could you see us bringing for Hibbert and pieces?

Bynum is a possibility, i.e. Hibbert and some of the $12 million cash.
Love - I like him, but he'd have to sign an extension and is very similiar to Dwest and hans
Dhoward- doubtful, he wouldn't sign an extension.
Cousins - won't even go there.

Did you even watch the game? Roy and Paul have been our best players this season.

The idea that Chuck Hayes can do the same as Hibbert is silly. And I love me some Chuckwagon.

Wait, so he has to be able to outperform one of the best young defensive centers in the NBA in order to stick around here in Indy? Who is your only acceptable replacement? Dwight?

Bynum is injured all the time.

Love is a PF. We are solid there with West and Tyler.

Howard won't come here unless we pay him a ridiculous salary and go over the salary cap. We won't do that and he isn't worth it anyway.

Cousins is trouble. We should stay away from him.

As I look at the 2012 Pacers, I am starting to see similarities to the Pacers of the 1990's. Hansbrough and West seem a lot like A. Davis to me (only they don't jump as well), Hibbert seems similar to Smits.

Granger could probably pass for Rose. Can Collison develop to the point where he can lead a team as well as Jackson? Where's Reggie?

As you can see not all of the holes are filled, but it appears some of them are.

He's worth every penny of the max, plus more.

Paul George hit all 5 of his 3's last night. He's no the pure shooter Reggie is, but he's going to be MONSTROUS at this rate.

I would trade Hibbert as a centerpiece for Howard, and maybe Love. But that's about it. And even then it would be hard. Hibbert is a guy that truly embraces being a Pacer & is a big part of what attendance we did get last year.

Paul G shoots the ball so effortlessly it's rediculous.

I am all for trading Granger because he doesn't really fit the team that well. Although, I'd probably wait until the 2012 season to do so.

I am either way on Hibbert because I know that he would bring back something really good. Healthy, 7'2" centers are as common as unicorns. Whatever we do with him, we need to proceed with caution. If Bird talked with DeMarcus Cousins and thought he could turn it around here, I wouldn't be opposed to a swap.

We know Larry loathed Tyreke, and he is on the outs too.

I wonder what a package of Tyreke and Demarcus would cost?

I really don't like Cousins. Obviously, not many people are happy with Westphal, but I haven't liked his attitude on and off the court.

I have a good feeling him and Bird will work something out that we can still trade him if we ever find a better center who can stay on the court and who we can get without the massive overpay.

Not being the biggest fan of Hibbert's game, 10M annually still sounds reasonable to me.

Hibbert has been excellent this year? Why in the world would we trade him?

He's been arguably our best player. If anything he needs more touches. He's averaging 10 RPG in only 29 minutes, he's shooting 57 percent from the field, he's been excellent defensively...

If he was more featured in the offense he could average 16 and 10 this year. You hold on to Roy, he has the potential to be one of the best C's in the game, and someone that is a unique threat in this watered down age of big men. Don't discount the value of having a weapon almost no other teams in the NBA have.

Also if your down on Hibs this year, don't look at Noah so far, he's sucked.

Hibs MVP so far for the Pacers and they have looked pretty good.

They maintain ok with out him but when he's not exhausted he is a load to handle.
His hook is looking very strong and he is just bigger than everyone when they're grasping for rebounds.
He works his AZZ off and is totally a team and a city guy.

The list of guys I'd trade him for is short indeed.

The only reason Hibbert isn't putting up MVP numbers is cause Darren "I'm A Bucket Of Sand" Collison is a jerk.

Hibbert isn't perfect. He needs to be stronger with the basketball. But to ship him away would be asinine. I'd only consider it as a package deal for Dwight Howard, which ain't happening.

No and no.

He wants to be a Pacer, does a little bit of everything and has been the only one on the team that has shown he can hit clutch jump shots. I would hate to see the beatdown the Bulls would have handed us last year if we didn't have him.

And 7'2 centers of Roy's caliber aren't as common as you think. There aren't even that many 7'2 centers in the NBA.

Sorry, just find those assertions ridiculous. Especially because you'd be willing to swap Hibbert for Cousins when some of the people on the Kings board are saying his value is so low that they believe they'd get a late first round pick for him. I think he's worth more than that but he's obviously not worth Hibbert at the moment. I really, really wanted to trade up for Cousins in the draft but after seeing him shoot 43.0 percent last year and 31.0% so far this year, I'd trade less for him than I originally would have. He still has plenty of time to become a monster but I've been laughing every time they show his highlight reels because he'll miss like 10 easy put backs. It's hard to believe he is blaming the Kings coach for the players not knowing what do, at least in his case anyways. I'm pretty sure you're brain damaged if you're blaming the coach for your own inability to make an open shot under the basket when you're 3 inches away from being able to touch the rim without even your feet.

I guess I don't know why everyone is in a hurry to start trading players. Gave the Bulls all they could handle and are 4-1 with two new assistant coaches and a coach that's only been a head coach for about 50 games. Not to mention 7, players on the roster are 25 or younger with an 8th player being 26. David West and Jeff Foster are the only players over 30 and Foster hasn't even been playing. This team has been playing really well despite their age and lack of preparation. I want to see what this team can do after the coaches have more time to work with them and as the team begins to gel. David West and George Hill are getting significant minutes and they haven't been with the team very long. Looks like Amundson will get some decent minutes as well. Definitely need time to gel and more time for the coaches to implement their system.

Here's a Granger's stats against the Bulls in the playoffs last year...

36.6mpg 21.6ppg 5.6rpg 3.2apg 1.2stlpg 2.4pg 1.4to

8.6/18.0 fg(47.8%) 1.6/4.6 3pt(34.8%) 2.8/3.2 ft(87.5%)

If that doesn't fit with the team, I'd like more players that don't fit with the team. :)
