There goes another trade we could'a...

Post#1 » by Bassman » Wed Jan 4, 2012 6:47 pm

Speights is headed to the Griz in a 3 team deal for a player and a couple of 2nd rounders.

The Sixers, Grizzlies and Hornets have agreed in principle on a three-team trade.

Marreese Speights will go to the Grizzlies, Xavier Henry to the Hornets, while Philadelphia will acquire two future second round picks.

The trade is on course to be completed on Wednesday.

I know he's not a great player, but he's young and big and still hold's promise. Why can't we get involved in these types of deals? Is the TANK strategy that absolute?

I know Diaw is expensive but I'd love to have found a way to deal him in some combination that got us Speights.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

What does Speights provide that White and Thomas don't? That's the question you have to ask when looking at these trades. How would Speights receive minutes here? He wouldn't.

Henry would have been interesting but he has injury problems and he would have no place here once Reggie returns. That's the way you really have to look at it.

we just did get involved in a deal 3 weeks ago for mullens for a 2nd rounder. would you rather have mullens or speights? mullens at least fit our most glaring need.

Speights is taller and stronger than either player (6-10, 245), and could play the 5 instead of Doris. i know it means nothing as the trade is done, but I just don't understand how players can get moved for relatively low cost and we're not involved. I guess Cho doesn't value him, or more likely nobody values our mediocre assets.

I always laugh when members get mad that we weren't part of every single trade that goes through.

Do you know we weren't on the phone for Speights? No.
Maybe they didn't like what we were offering?
Maybe we wanted more than they were willing to give?
Maybe Cho doesn't see Speights as a valuable piece for our future?

Too many variables (with too much information that we don't have access to) for us to have strong feelings either way.

I expect us absenting in those type of trades because those could either put The Son spot in danger or raise questions why he kept it over someone else. Corey Higgins meant no Dante, no Moon, no Nachbar (not that the last two would make sense as we are rebuilding team) and probably means no trades until we disembark expiring contracts and maybe Tyrus if an opportunity occurs. I expect us stand pat until nearly the trade deadline. Till then Cho's hands are tied I guess and he will work on other things than immediate trades.

Would it count if we cut HigJr. to try out Xavier Silas (unrelated, I know, but) from Red Claws :)?

Would have liked to get our hands on Henry though.

LOL, i checked who he is too, once the Red Claws roster was linked due to Ricky Davis sighting. :D

Another good deal for New Orleans, Henry for a 2nd round pick, I like the way their front office is rebuilding.

Henry could have been interesting, but as mentioned earlier Williams renders him useless to us. I can't believe someone is upset we didn't go after Mareese Speights...wow, tough crowd. Speights sucks. I'd rather keep the 2nd rounder or whatever it would take to get him. White has been playing pretty good considering he's a limited player and Tyrus is coming back.

If i'm not mistaken Doris is in the last year of his deal so why would we trade an expiring??

Great trade for the Hornets, they're lucky they're run by the league.

Gee Marvel...that was a kick to the gonads!

First I wanted to just stir some stuff up here, but, I always did think Speights was worth a cheap deal if we could pull it off. I get it that he's far from a proven talent.

I just have to trust Cho...I certainly do not trust Higgins. Cho strikes me as a guy who will stalk his prey quietly, like a Ninja, and strike suddenly near the trade deadline.

BTW...when is the trade deadline this season?
