Horrible Season could be Blessing in Disguise

Post#1 » by NyCeEvO » Wed Jan 4, 2012 9:19 pm

Despite us playing terribly, I had a sudden rush of optimism this morning.

Lo and behold I check ND this morning and I see a golden nugget amongst the garbage of the season. Kerber quotes D-Will saying:
"I never started a season like this, so it’s very, very unusual for me, very frustrating, very tough, but at the same time, it’s all unusual circumstances.

"We have a new team, pretty much. Still have a lot to add. I just try to look at the bigger picture, as much as possible, but still stay focused on trying to get some wins” Williams said, indicating he believes in GM Billy King who he thinks will get the necessary parts.

"I'm very confident. Very confident in what Billy's doing, and that's why I'm trying to be – I am being -- patient. I understand. Like I said, there's a bigger picture."

I'll admit that I even started to panic after looking at how bad things were going with the injuries, losses, and the inept coaching style of Avery.

However, D-Will's comments gave me huge boost and it only confirms what many of us have been wanting and hoping for a while.

Let's not forget that D-Will was basically co-GM this offseason. Every move and non-move that we made was done with agreement, recommendation, and approval of D-Will. Let's not fool ourselves and think that he's surprised that the team is what it is right now.

When D-Will said that he'd be grumpy if he lost a lot, people ran off with that comment and figured that he was basically asking for a trade. At that time, I said 'no, he's admitting that he won't be happy with the current conditions and he'll be grumpy AS HE GOES through it'. In other words, when he saw the final composition of the roster, he knew there was a chance that we'd be bad (however probably not due to injury) and he saw himself being upset and yet still on the team.

Ironically, the big picture could be even brighter, the worse this season is. BK must be telling Deron that it's a win-win situation. If we're good now, we'll make the playoffs and make D-Will happy and still have $25 mil in cap space (more than enough to sign D12).

However, if we are as bad for the rest of the season as we are now, we'll have a high lottery pick in the making in a stacked draft in addition to having what was mentioned in the previous scenario.

That's the true big picture.

Don't give up assets and trade for D12. Keep Lopez (or trade for a great SF or PF) and Brooks.

We could open Brooklyn with D-Will, Brooks, D12, Lopez, and A.Davis/Drummond/Sullinger/MKG, etc.
Talk about a championship roster.

Remember when D-Will said that he would recruit. I almost guarantee that BK gave him specific instructions on what to tell Dwight. Therefore, when D12 went to management and requested a trade to the Nets, they probably thought that some of the logic behind it was too precise for it to be thought of by Dwight alone. So we get accused of tampering because things seem to much of a slam dunk.

Now, there (supposedly) are reports that D12 has told ORL that he gets traded to NJ or no place else. It seems to good to be true. However, as long as D-Will focuses on the big picture, I think he'll agree that 7+ years of title contention is worth one bad year.

You're lucky you typed a lot, or I was just going to post "this has already been posted."

Can you post a link to those reports you're referring to?

DWill is going DWade. It's clear to see.

Anthony Davis + Dwight Howard + Deron Williams gives me wet dreams.

I'd pick Drummond in front of Davis, but Davis would be a better fit.

I admire your positivity NyCeEvO, and I agree at all your points.

Our slow start doesn't warrant any panic on our end, what's important is the end-result.

Nets fans have been waiting for a BIG CHANGE and we just all need to be patient.

I'm glad that DWill is looking at the biggger picture, he understands that these are just minor bumps en route to a promising future.

It's 2012 already my friends! Now, it's just a matter of WHEN...

I've been saying it for a while now, if we get Dwight Howard in 2012 free agency, we'll be in a fantastic position. We would have Deron, Dwight, Brook Lopez (can be re-signed), Marshon Brooks, and a top lottery pick in a stacked draft. One or two of those assets could easily be flipped for a trade for an elite wing or a top PF.

That would be golden! However, I'm not sure Orlando would just let Dwight walk without nothing in return and doubt if other teams would be willing to let go of assets at the trade deadline for a playoff rental...

It may not be up to them. If it's true that D12 has already told management that he won't sign in LA, they can only and we refuse to deal for him, they have to keep him.

Yeah well his comments before todays game didnt sound very encouraging. He told reporters something along the lines of "unfortunately I wont be playing tonight because of my right side injury". The way he said it I sort of though there was some sarcasm, then he says with a smile and bit of a chuckle "why are you guys laughing when I say that?". And sure enough one of the reporter says that he sounded a bit sarcastic. Deron laughs a little bit too and tried to tell them he was being serious but couldnt do it with a straight face. I truly felt he was being sarcastic that he "unfortunately" couldnt play tonight. Im losing faith in his willingness to play hard and help this team win games. I dont blame him for being frustrated because this team is garbage, but be a professional. Suck it up and play hard. You want help? Play hard and prove that you deserve it.
