Anybody else loving this team?

Post#1 » by Jeff23 » Thu Jan 5, 2012 8:49 pm

I just love to watch Bobcats games. They play the game the right way. Sure, they have some down-games like that Cavs game, but whats better than going to NY on a back-to-back and put on a clinic? The way this team played last night was a joy to watch. Team-oriented basketball (well, except maggette). What i like about this team most is that they play for each other. They hustle, play hard and arent selfish at all. DJ Augustin has impressed me most this season. He looks so much more confident right now and then that steal of a draft-pick in Gerald Henderson. Give me Gerald Henderson over Nick Young, DeRozan, Paul George and those other guys all day long. Gerald plays every possession like its his last possession of his career. He's a very good defender, tremendous athlete and overall a great scorer. I am seeing big things in this guy. I also think he's one of those loyal guys that wont chase the big-market life. I think he likes it in Charlotte and will re-sign with this franchise after his contract is up. I really like where this team is going. Biyombo, a project, has also shown moments of his potential. That clean block on Shumpert last night was awesome. No fear whatsoever. He's gonna be a huge rim-protector in a couple of years. Then you have Kemba Walker who shows flashes of his brilliant scoring ability, and the guy doesnt look as bad defensively as some "journalists" said. Boris Diaw looks also great this year, but i dont know if its just because its his contract year. He kinda dominated the knicks and especially amare last night.

Well what i wanted to say is that i am looking forward to watching EVERY Bobcats game this year, they're fun to watch and will make some contenders pay for underestimating them!

Wait'll you get a load of DJ draining threes after Jared Sullenger kicks it to him out of the double team.

yes and I'm hoping Maggette is out for a while because he kills it. When didnt pass it to Henderson for the easy flush or alley oop on that fast break I was done with him. He says the right words but he's pure cancer

Hell yeah I love this team, I'd love them if they were 0-6 though as long as they played hard each & every game.

They continue to impress me though, we've beaten two teams many considered to be playoff quality.

Our young prospects/roleplayers are much better than people suspected.

They play good team ball and they play bad team ball. But I haven't seem them play particularly selfish ball or go to streetball so hopefully these young guys can grow together and really shake up the scene in a couple of years.

Maggette is a good character guy but not a good #1 option on offense at all, he kills our ball movement like Jax did but unlike Jax Maggette can't facilitate very well at all.

Hendo's struggles are because Maggette is receiving the ball too much in that midrange are that Hendo makes a living at.

Personally I think we should freeze Maggette out unless he has a lane to drive & draw fouls, let Hendo have his sweet spots.

what I really enjoyed so far this season is the Diaw + DJA/Kemba chemistry. The way they killed the Knicks with their plays yesterday was just beautiful

Just realised when Maggs went out Hendo came ALIVE. I hope he's out for a long time.

This has happened in each of our games, Hendo is reasonably quiet & the minute Mags heads to the bench Hendo goes into full attack mode.

Right now our offense is #1 Maggette #2 Augustin #3 Hendo when in reality it should be #1 Hendo #2Augustin #3 ball movement with whoever has the best shot.

What I mean by number three is that we have to recognise that the minute the ball touches Maggettes hands or even Mullens hands they chuck it up, we have to look to Maggette when we have no other choice & hit Mullens late in the shot clock when he is at his spot from 18 feet.

^ That is why i'm not high on Mullens, especially with him starting. He's shown nothing more than chucking it up, doesn't look to pass, doesn't even bother to look at our options, he just catchesITSHOOTSIT all in one motion, every time he touches the ball. Luckily for him his shot is MONEY in the bank, but what happens when his shots not falling? Or defenses figure him out and start closing out on him? He hasn't even put the ball on the floor and pulled up yet.

He's like James Jones. Money from outside the paint, but once he steps into the paint it's like hot lava. I mean has he even scored in the paint yet? His defensive awareness is poor and i don't know if his hustle is fake or real.

Still, i think he was a solid pickup for us considering what we gave up to get him.

I am high on Mullens as a component of our bench going forward but I din't understand this start Mullens business, he plays no D & can't rebound, his shot is amazing though & he can hit that off our bench for years to come. A second for him is great business.

I don't think Mags is a cancer - I just think he's got a case of the Gumps.

He's not a smart man, but he knows what basketball is.

That fast break underlined that. I don't think it was malicious, I just don't think he's real smart.

That's foolish. Mags had nothing to do with Hendo going 0-6 to start the game last night. Fact is Hendo had 6 good looks and he just didn't knock them down.

Nothing at all to do with Mags.

Have you watched all the games this year. Mullens is becoming a better player every game. He was cutting to the basket very nice last night and was getting to the line. Also, he has had a few nice put back dunks this year as well. Yes he is a great shooter, but that is something to celebrate. He has become less of a black hole the last few games. He really only shot when he was open last night and was making every shot so more power to him.

He is kind of taking over the Shaun Livingston role this year. Coming off the bench and killing the midrange. The only thing different is he does not play PG so he does not kill all ball movement. The team needs to know that if he gets the ball yeah he will look to score, but that is what he is in to do. If he is going to make shots then give him the rock.

As far as other aspects of the game I think he is improving as well. He is rebounding decent and has recorded a few blocks. He also seems like he is learning the sets now looking for the dribble handoff to the point guard. His defense is a work in progress, but then again he has all year to fix that and I think with minutes he can become a solid defender and rebounder.

Was a great deal to get him for a second round pick. I think he will be a nice piece off the bench for this team for several years.

^thank you.

And I agree with saying that Maggs shouldn't be 1st or 2nd option on offense. Let him be a safety valve for when the clock is low, he can do a crappy turn and fade then or drive to the rack and get fouled.

I love watching this team, the losses don't bother me, they are trying hard and giving it their all. Plus, I finally see a light at the end of the tunnel (albeit a long tunnel), and we have some exciting young players as well. Ill go to more games this year than any before, I wouldn't be surprised if I go to at least 8.

So this is what i've seen from Mullens.

Catch and shoot from 17-18 ft out

A couple offensive putback dunks

Turnaround jumper from the mid - high post about 15 ft out

Yet to see him score in the paint

Slowly becoming a blackhole on offense, but as long as he's draining those jumpers he can blackhole it up

Yet to see him put it on the floor(has he even taken one dribble)

Poor defender on the p&r, never hedges....never

Slow defensive rotations and poor awareness on weakside help

Don't get me wrong, i love the pickup and Mullens is good for that offensive burst coming off the bench and i think he's a keeper for the future if the price is right.

So... random comments from the peanut gallery.

Gerald Henderson looks good, and Diaw seems to be playing very well in a non-scoring role. It's a shame to see Maggette playing so poorly, but I imagine Hendo's progress is far more interesting and important, given his age. Nice to see some progress being made for the franchise. :)

Can't hurt to have the greatest 2-guard of all-time as your owner as far as the development of your young scoring 2, eh?
