Does the team hate Jimmer?

Post#1 » by tatertotsnjuice » Fri Jan 6, 2012 7:36 am

They rarely ever pass to him. There sre so many opprrtunities to drive and dish back to him but it rarely happens. He's always trying to involve other players but doesn't get that in return. Also seems like nobody is really talking to him during the game. He just seems so mellow and sad or something. A far cry from the confidence and swagger he had at BYU.

He hasn't been shooting well to start the season, 37% fg and 31% from 3.. I think they need more plays for him to just spot up and shoot.

He's a rookie and his shot hasn't been falling like it did at BYU. But anybody with any sense of the game more or less expected this. Jimmer will be fine long term, but he's only so great right now.

No.

Jimmer is not used to being a 4th option. It's only been a few games. The team needs time.

I saw on a few drives last night when Thornton had the ball that Jimmer was standing one the three's wide open but instead Thornton took the contested shot. They went in that night but I would like to see more ball movement.

To answer your question, no I don't think they "hate" Jimmer or avoid passing him the ball. It has been well documented on these forums that so far this season the team has poor ball movement and they often miss open players be it Jimmer or anybody else.

As I watched the game last night I got the feeling something was going on regarding Jimmer.

I'm not a fan or a detractor of Jimmer. The situation makes sense.

Jimmer has more "buzz" than the other players.

There were several situations off of rebounds where Jimmer was waiting on the ball and the rebounder looked him off a few times before he finally found Evans.

Even on the Bulls they'll pass it to Rip Hamilton or Brewer or Deng if they are open and the first one they see.

Maybe that's part of what makes the Bulls a better team.

And it wasn't like it was fastbreak situation. They just didn't want to give him the ball.

It was odd.

I think it is more a lack of an offensive system. There hasn't been much coordinated ball movement. Once we see more assists I think Jimmer's production will increase. Production Will follow structure.

Offensive systems have anything to do with with a defensive rebounder not passing the ball to an open right next to, in sight , available jimmer in non fast break situations.

Because if there isn't structure then the ball wont get moved like it should. Once that me me me mentality the kings have is broken with some structure we will see more assists. More assists means more opps for jimmer. We have no situational offense.

I don't think anyone should read too much into Jimmer not getting the ball here or there. He's still an unproven rookie that needs to gain the trust of his teammates and the coaching staff. Many college superstars come into the NBA and suck, so Jimmer has to pay his dues and prove himself before he gets any royal treatment. He's not like Lebron or Wall or Irving where he was drafted to a team with no talent at his position and asked to immediately be the best player. We have Evans and Thornton already, so it will take time. I do, however, hope that the new coach runs plays for him that allow him to shoot threes off of screens, rather than asking him to create his own shot all the time, which is how he's been scoring so far.

I think Jimmer is just getting tired. This season is going to be exhausting for everybody, but especially for rookies like Jimmer.

Exactly, it's like they were obviously avoiding him.

Yes, it was obvious.

That's why I came to this board today to see if there was any conversation about it.

They got defensive rebounds at least 3 times and instead of passing the ball to Jimmer to advance the ball upcourt (he was open/made eye contact/hand up/available each time) they wouldn't throw him the ball.

It was as if he were on the other team.

Just watching the game and understanding how it's played it was odd to watch.

Just know that if it's a fast break and Tyreke has the ball, it's not leaving his hands til he shoots it.That's what he did at Memphis and his first couple of years so far in the NBA. I don't see it changing much anytime soon.

As for Jimmer, he played pretty terrible the last game. There were AT LEAST 3 or 4 times where he made and errant or soft pass that easily got picked off. Maybe the vets felt like he would turn the ball over again if they passed it to him.

I think Jimmer needs to make cuts or run around screens a la Reggie Miller and free himself up for an easy look. OR spot up for the 3 when Reke is driving and dishing. I just hope he finds his shot.

You are not familiar with the situation nor do you live in Sacramento so I will clarify this for you in an honest fashion.

Tyreke, DMC and Thornton were seen as the core of the franchise going forward. Then the Maloofs/ Petrie (not sure who to "blame" here) went and traded down and drafted Jimmer - the newest great white hope - obviously hoping for the next JWill/ White Chocolate. So to start, how do you think those three feel?

Then you have to add the fact that the paying audience in Sac is VERY old school WASP with a large healthy dosage of pretty big Mormon money too. Now understand that I am a white Jewish guy, so I don't have ANY kind of ethnic axe to friend here. It's just facts that nobody in this town or on the Kings fans boards and sites ever want to admit to. Jimmer was greeted at the airport lik he was freaking MJ and the Bulls fresh off the three-peat. It's ridiculous and so are these idiots around this overgrown small town.

I strongly suspect thatPaul Westphal's embrasure of the very obvious FO mandate to play the he'll out of Jimmer and sell him to the doofs around here led to the fact that the rest of the team that is Black completely and totally quit on him. The fact is the kid is a rookie and isn't even close to ready for the amount of usage time he is getting out on the floor. Isiah Thomas is LIGHT YEARS ahead of him as far as I can see and he dormant need to be getting as much burn as he is. The kid just isn't making good decisions with the ball and needs a couple of years to understand that if he's gonna stick in the NBA, it's got to be as a traditional point guard, not some kind of green light crazy gunner.

Jimmer still looks a little lost out there. He is still a rookie (with no training camp/preseason) so I think he'll end up fine. But right now, he's making sloppy plays on offense and his shot isn't falling. His form, though, is a thing of beauty and once he gets into the swing of things and his shots start falling his teammates will look for him more.
