Yeah, that ship is sailed for them unfortunately. Anyway, it's not like that easy to get good pass first PG's in this league, and especially now, as they're a dying breed.

Hawks need a new team....every single one of them is tradable....the entire team has low ball IQ.

Jeff Teague needs to do a better job at creating for his teammates. He tends to bring the ball up, pass out, they pass back to him, and he passes again for someone to take a jumper. Coach Drew could be restricting him. I like the steps he's made but he needs to be more consistent.

Re: The Atlanta Hawks Need A Quality Starting PG
How about we wait for development. Teague wasn't a PG in college and sat for 2 years because Woodson hates rookies and because Larry Drew is an insecure coach/man. He only got to play due to injury. Then he didn't even have an off-season with the job due to the lockout. Essentially he's figuring it out on the fly and is now overreacting to criticism even if constructive (like the Houston game). He's had good games and bad games so far.
The other that needs to happen is that his teammates need to learn how to play with a PG. Let's be honest they've never really had much of one and have spend a large portion of their careers watching iso-Joe or iso-Jamal. When Teague breaks down the defense and a big rotates to stop his shot that guy's man needs to move to make himself a target. I don't see that happening much yet. When it does it will be Teague's job to get him the ball instead of throwing up a contested or blocked shot. We aren't there yet. Can he do it? We don't know, but don't give up 8 games into the season.
If Teague is still just a scorer at the end of the year then by all means draft a PG in the draft, but until then have some patience as fans to allow for player development.

I don't know what's going on with you guys. Teague has played tons of minutes on 5 games on 7 days. He is averaging 11,4 ppg, 2rpg, 5apg, 2 spg, 2TO shooting 45,6% from the field, not great but good enough to keep a starting job for his first season with enough minutes.
The last 2 games he has played more than 40 mpg and he is clearly tired. Give him a season or 2 before you thow him out.
The problem is not on Teague, is on JJ, Smith and Horford, low season averages since 2007.

Re: The Atlanta Hawks Need A Quality Starting PG
It's funny because we were absolutely crying when Bibby was putting up those EXACT type of stats just a year ago but now it's "good enough to keep a starting job".
He's been playing Bibbyesque type defense too while giving everyone from Sundiata Gaines to Mario Chalmers a fighter escort towards the rim on a continuous basis.
He's going to have to clean up two aspects:
1)his horrendous pick and roll where if you are a big, don't even bother presenting for the ball after a pick and roll to the basket because you're not going to get it. The only time he hits a guy on this play is when Josh and Al set the pick and just stop at 20 feet, wait for Teague to get in trouble against two defenders and then bails himself out by passing out to the two wide open guys which is more bad than good considering the condition of their jumpers.
2) his defensive awareness. Picking up a steal and block does not make you a great defender the same way hitting a shot does not make you a great shooter, he needs to clean up his man to man defense because half the time he's shading guys to one direction as if he's funneling them into Dwight Howard when in fact he's forcing the other guys to help off their men leaving them wide open or if they stick he's giving up the layup on his own.

Why do we even need to sit through this thread? Why wasn't it left where it was? We are Hawks fans not just people that post on whatever is hot on Realgm. Teague is fine and anyone saying different is just as out of touch and over the top as Charles Barkley. Look at Deron Williams current TO rates and look at Deron Williams rookie numbers. This is Teague's longest stint as a starter and he is doing fine actually.

Teague will be fine. Getting Kirk back will help Teague's progress.

Teague will be fine in the long run but he needs PT to learn how to run a team. He might need another off-season to work on his outside shot with more consistency and confidence. He will be then very difficult to handle...not to mention that refs will start calling fouls on his defenders.

No it's not, Bibby was averaging 9,4 ppg 2rpg 3,4 apg 0,7spg which is clearly less than Teague's stats 11,4 ppg, 2rpg, 5apg, 2 spg on his first season that is the main difference, he still has all the opportunities to improve his numbers and his game, something Bibby could not as was on the last stages of his career.
To compare Bibby's deffense to Teague's defense makes me wonder if you have ever seen a Hawks game.
Yesterday against Chicago he limited Mr Derrick Rose to 8 pts, 4rb, 6 ast shooting 30% from the field scoring 12pts, 2rb, 8 ast, 5stl shooting 75%, Yeah, you are right exactly as Bibby... let's throw him for a 2nd rounder.

Re: The Atlanta Hawks Need A Quality Starting PG
I'm guessing you don't know what Per36 is. Bibby averaged 27minutes his last season here to Teague's 34 but per minute wise they are nearly identical.
Bibby: 11.3 points, 4.3 assists, 3.1 rebounds 43% fg 44% 3fg
and this is after last night's bump to Teague's stats
Teague: 11.6 points, 6.1 assists, 1.9 rebounds 46%fg 38%fg
And what does what he did last night have to do with what he did the previous 5 games or the totality of the season for that matter? I'm not on some "haha, look what he did last night, he's been doing this forevvvvvver" bull ****. Even at the beginning of the broadcast Jerome stated that LD himself wanted Teague to step up his defense so really now, lol away because the coach and I have never seen Hawks games before.

Stat of the night- Jeff Teague 8 assists, 0 Turns
19th start. Steals and attacks on the break Probes, sees nothing pulls it out and runs the offense.
