How do you see Tyreke doing?

Post#1 » by orangeparka » Fri Jan 6, 2012 5:46 pm

Big fan/believer in Tyreke, but haven't been able to see much of him this season. Hopefully some Kings fans can shed some light on him.

How do you think he'll do this season? Does he still have the potential he showed in his rookie year? Will a Tyreke/Thornton work long-term? Who would you choose if not?

Thanks.

It is going to take some time to tell. The potential there is great. We will have a clearer picture towards the end of the season. I think if we add a bit more size down in the paint it will make it easier for them to produce.

We had Sammy and DMC last year and Tyreke still struggled. I would like to see Deron Williams next to Tyreke, but sinice that probably won't happen I think Jimmer could be a nice fit next to Tyreke. I also wouldn't mind playing Tyreke as a SF with Jimmer and Thorton at times.

I think he does still have out-of-this-world potential.

I'm not sure how well an Evans/Thornton backcourt can really work long term, but for now they're two valuable pieces worth keeping around.

So far Tyreke has been great at home and mediocre away. He needs to start being consistent because when he does well, the team does well.

He's shown flashes of greatness this year, but that's about it. He still has no jumper and his free throws have been awful except for the last game (before yesterday, he was 59% on the season). Other guys with similar promise have developed jumpers when they were initially awful, and apparently he's working on it, so that's good. As for free throws, same deal. I was part of the home crowds in the Chicago (5 for 12 FT) and NY (1 for 3) booing him, so he knows what's up.

His passing and court vision are not very good. He can't run a break. Even if it's 3-on-1, he will put his head down and try to score himself. His defense is pretty good I'd say. And as far as driving to the hoop, he's among the best in the league. But he can't do that on every play. He has to develop a mid-range jumper, a floater, and/or some sort of stop and pop like what Nash does in the key sometimes. I often speak poorly of him on this board but that's more superstitious than anything; in the past, players have shut me up after things I've said on the internet, and I want him to become a star.

His free throws have actually been good the last 4 games (19-21).

His playmaking isn't great, but it's better than he has shown it to be. More organization in the offense and better spacing should make a big difference. The key for him is going to be improving his interior passing. He has shown signs of doing well with it (I think he had two great interior passes to Hickson last night that Hickson fumbled), but often when he dribbles into a crowd, it's a disaster.

What is Tyreke Evans?

The Kings need to provide him a role to fill. The biggest issue I see is in year three we still don't know what he is.

it is a work in progress, but I do know that if Tyreke is to become a superstar in this league it comes down to him developing an in between game more so than range. I also would like to see develop a post game; if the Kings are going to continue to play him at PG then they might as well take advantage of his size. This means he has to learn where every body will be on the floor so he can pass out of double teams.

For this team to work it will have to take a lot of work and sacrifice from the players; mostly on the part of Reke and Cousins because their games clash. Reke likes to get in the lane and have the ball in his hands and Cousins is a low post player who is more effective on the block so for this thing to work they both will have to adjust and it is not totally bad for Cousins to shoot that elbow or 18 foot jumper; he just has to make it consistently.

This is definitely a key thing for him. If he is ever going to have some kind of long term success at PG (or even just as a high level playmaker), it means he's going to have to start thinking ahead and know where everybody is going to be before he makes his move.

Tyreke's skill level improved during the lockout but the issue for him (and so many others in the NBA) right now is conditioning. I really feel like he'll go on a tear at some point this year when his conditioning catches up.

If he doesn't improve i can see the kings trading him for a more traditional PG. A good PG can do wonders for this team. I would also like the kings to pursue Steve Nash (not a trade for tyreke), he can come in and teach tyreke a things or two, if they decide to keep him another year.

IMO Evans will never be the PG we all hoped he would be when he was drafted. However, I have a feeling he will develop into a top defender. Evans is a very important part of this team and as of right now I see no reason to trade him. No reason to freak out while going through growing pains.

What did you guys expect from Tyreke? IMO he's not a PG at all, but an SG.

I do think he's more a SG but problem is he can't shoot well, he can't play off the ball effectively, and he needs to have the ball in his hands to have an impact.
