i liked the passing out of him today. that is one of the areas i have some hope about because he can move the ball well if he's in the right mind set. he seemed to at least be paying attention on defense, so that's good . . .

andrea bargnani is still younger and a better fit with carmelo. he has never been a dominant scorer like amare has, but he is pretty skilled and has pretty much the perfect offensive game you'd want for a power forward playing next to tyson and carmelo.

the amare/carmelo pairing is fundamentally flawed and a good game against the pistons isn't going to change that. but that said, they are both capable of adjusting and working to mesh their games together. i hope very much that they do that because we will be a much better team if that happens.

Yeah.

Last year they were calling him MVP. Now a few bad games to start the season and everyone wants his head. People need to realize we have basically a whole new rotation this year and while it was a longer than usual offseason Amare couldn't play for a long time because of his back.

I'm not taking the bait. And we don't need this thread stickied. Let's be honest, it's a sad, harsh and bitter reality we are facing in this thread. But it is reality.

Are we satisfied that Amare didn't get embarrassed defensively against Jason Maxiell and Jonas Jerebko? In a game that was over when we crushed the spirit of a team that's bad both offensively and defensively by the second quarter?

Amare dunks the ball hard. And he's looked like he might have realized how important it is to box out. Yeah we get it. I still call fake hustle.

Take the win for what it is - a good step in the right direction. Not as a rationalization for our $100 million star player that is a brain dead defensive softee.

I'm no hater. Just one of the few who are willing to admit that we have a lower ceiling with Amare on this team than without.

But hey, if you are feeling impressed and have reasonable faith in this roster to legitimately compete in this league, don't let me take that away from you.

it was the pistons. i will be happy with stoudemire when he shows a consistent effort to do what this team needs out of him. that means not being a liability on defense, not taking stupid shots, not dribbling the ball off his foot because he has delusions of grandeur when it comes to his ball handling abilities, boxing out, and moving the ball and trying to find his teammates. i am not saying he won't do that, but i won't be happy until he does on a consistent basis.

This thread is a little disappointing. He has a slow beginning to the season and all of a sudden people were throwing him under the bus? I don't know how people didn't expect this - you couldn't have possibly demanded a smoldering start right out of the gate.

The team is still gelling - yes, the season is short and the room for error is minimal so our stumbling beginning is unfortunate but you all need to cut the guy some slack. If the last two games were any indication, he'll be fine. Not everyone comes out on fire from game 1.

i am just looking at the bigger picture of what getting a championship usually requires. does stoudemire play like duncan? like garnett? like dirk? like shaq? like pau? no he doesn't.

those guys are TEAM players. it's not coincidence that they are all RENOWNED for their passing. all of them except Dirk are EXCEPTIONAL defenders, and Dirk is not too bad at D and happens to be one of the best playoff scorers of all time which makes up for that some. they all give you consistent post play.

if stoudemire wins playing like he has in the past, he will be a breakthrough, lol. doubt that happens. the only way this team is going anywhere is if stoudemire pushes himself to change. boxing out, not being one of the worst team defenders in the league, and not making egregiously stupid plays would be a very good start (to be fair, he stopped making stupid plays as the season went on last year). consistently looking for his teammates like melo is trying to do this season and developing a rudimentary post game would be even better.

Every NBA player has a nemesis - A guy who hates everything about him regardless of how good or popular he is.

For Stephon Marbury, it was majorleads. For Amar'e, it's albert.

FWIW, because Amar'e is much better than Starbury, that makes albert a worse poster than majorleads.
